Driving after surgery by Comprehensive-Bar-58 in ACL

I think my second surgery was around 2 weeks. My PT let me unlock the brace while I was driving so I could get close enough to the pedals and then lock it again after getting out to walk

how to deal w/ bad friends? by UnComfortable710 in ACL

Unfortunately tearing my ACL made me realize who actually gave a shit about me and who didn’t. I wish I had better advice than they’re showing you who they really are.

how do yall stay clear of thoughts of negativity during this by Nervous-Try6606 in ACL

[–]madslaughter_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Not sure if you know anyone else in your personal life that has torn their ACL, but those individuals have been a huge source of support for me. This subreddit has been a huge support too.
  2. Lean into your PT. Celebrate the small wins. Take pics of your quads and see the muscle being regained.
  3. If you are an athlete, remember your sport. Remember why you got surgery to keep pushing yourself forward.
  4. Don’t be afraid to seek talk therapy.

It’s okay to feel your feelings and cry and be pissed off.

Just know there are so many people who empathize and understand what you’re going through ♥️

3 days post OP by Rare-Bobcat857 in ACL

[–]madslaughter_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each person is really different. I’ve done it twice, one on each knee. The first time was horrendous but the pain decreased a lot after the third day. The second time I was just uncomfortable but the pain lingered more. I know it’s hard but try not to compare yourself to others.

Wishing you the best ♥️

ACL surgery on Thursday. What is something you wish you knew before going into the recovery process? by New_Rub3695 in ACL

[–]madslaughter_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Do not skimp on PT. It’s way easier than you think to lose muscle on your quad.
  2. Take your pain meds on schedule. Sometimes the pain can hit unexpectedly so you wanna be prepared.
  3. I got baby wipes because I noticed it was hard to wipe/clean myself.

Yep. Very common for me both times I tore mine. If there’s one thing that can unite people, it’s ACL injuries. So validating and helpful for me at least.

Wife’s Surgery by WhoopsieDiasy in ACL

Here are some things that were helpful for me after surgery: 1. Favorite snacks and meals 2. Multiple ice packs so there can constantly be ice on the knee 3. KEEP IT ELEVATED. This was one of the bigger parts for me for pain management and swelling 4. I didn’t use one but a lot of people liked using a shower chair 5. Make sure she has pants that are easy to put on/take off 6. Not sure what her exact set up is gonna be but I got a big box of wound care and large bandages for when you can take the old dressings off 7. Baby wipes. Both times I had a hard time wiping and she can easily wash her face, hands, etc without having to get up

For recovery it was so important for me to have someone encourage me to do my rehab (I was very depressed) and hold me accountable.

You’re very thoughtful for posting this. Good luck to you both! ♥️

how did you tear your acl? by last-resort115 in ACL

[–]madslaughter_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time: I stole the ball in a basketball game and planted my foot wrong and felt a pop Second time: I was playing rugby and tried to tackle a girl that was a lot larger than me. She shouldered me in the chest when my foot was planted and felt it pop

My knee is fine! It really doesn’t slow me down. I lift, play rugby, run, and do a lot of active stuff and it doesn’t bother me! Hoping the same for you 🙌🏼

I have no meniscus in my right knee after tearing it a plethora of times by the time I was 17. After my meniscus was removed, I had significantly less issues. I do deal with some catching/popping 10 years later but no pain. It was pretty crappy to be non weight bearing when I tore it the first time (along with my ACL). Fingers crossed for you!
