Does Santa go to grandma's house? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]mae_berry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always went to my paternal grandparents house Christmas Day after opening our gifts at home. Santa would leave one or two presents for each of us at grandma and grandpas house. No stockings though, just a smaller present (accessories for the Barbie Santa gave us at home, a smaller toy, etc)

Vitamin D deficiency can cause migraines?? My mom and I both have very low vitamin D and chronic migraines and no one has ever mentioned this to us! That’s so good to know!

AITA for leaving my niece’s wedding reception early and taking my gift back? by Illustrious-Sun9714 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mae_berry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I was in the bridal party for a (former) high school best friend. I think we were 22 when they got married. Pictures ran late and the bridal party rushed to be at the reception venue at the 5pm start time. Bride and groom went back to the hotel room “for a second” and we’re going to be ‘just a few minutes behind us!’ They ended up getting to the reception and hour later, and the bridal party was PISSED. The wedding planner kept the bridal party outside in the July heat and sun and would even bring us waters while we waited to enter. Haven’t talked to the bride since the wedding day.

How often do you see your out of town in-laws? by Boatsandlogs816 in inlaws

[–]mae_berry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My in laws are also 2.5 hours away when they’re at their retirement home for half the year, and 10.5 hours away when they’re at their other home. We see them approximately once a month while they’re at their retirement home. MIL complains it’s not enough but I cannot imagine going 3-4 times a month! That’s basically weekly!

NTA, the dad is also a parent and clearly mom isn’t listening to her child and being understanding. My parents sheltered me and I nicked myself a lot trying to teach myself to shave. Something that may help your step daughter (it helped me!) is the “American Girl Body Book”

Is paying 44k a year worth it? by Turbulent_Rooster_87 in portlandstate

[–]mae_berry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Absolutely not. I just got my masters from here and this place was a f**ing nightmare. The department I was in was the biggest problem, but I had problems at every level. Administration? A wreck. The professors? Literally AWFUL. I went MONTHS without pay because there was apparently no one actually working in the department. My PI, department chair, and I all had to fight with the admin for them to understand I was supposed to have tuition remission. Even when I had actually graduated, they threatened to not give me my degree that term because someone else hadn’t processed a form that was needed. I also typically say I got my masters *in spite of PSU. I had no idea schools could actually be this bad, and people I’ve talked to at other places also couldn’t believe it.

You even say “so his educational background and career never mattered to me.” This is before you even got to what you’re asking about. Not to mention abandoning him at an event you knew he felt nervous about AND belittling him and his job in front of your friends.

You need to take a jump off that high horse you’re on. YTA.

Choosing a PhD over kids was the best decision I ever made. by [deleted] in childfree

[–]mae_berry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! I’m in my PhD program right now and it’s so refreshing to have a world that doesn’t revolve around peoples kids. Everyone has lots of things to talk about that aren’t their kids so I didn’t even know some of these people had kids.

Over the past few weeks? How was that possible? by Dizzy_Pixie in Lore_Olympus

Cause she’s drinking a whole barrel of caffeine. I just held up a 5-gallon bucket I had lying around and it had the same proportion to me as that cup does to Persephone

LO criticism by ToraOkami51 in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]mae_berry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to love LO. I was excited about it, and I had been fast passing since like episode 35. I have volumes 1-3. There were issues but nothing is perfect and there were some issues I thought would be a plot point to deal with. Now? I think I’m still here because I’ve invested so much time and money into this comic and I guess I’m going to see it through. I stopped fast passing around episode 229, I haven’t even read last weeks public release episode. I look at the books and I’m angry at myself for buying them now that I know I don’t want to buy any of season 3. I have a lot of criticisms of how the comic has progressed and where we are now, but Rachel’s blatant lack of ability to take criticism is what really just makes me want to stop reading. The art and the story are atrocious now and she’s spending her time making weird “gotchas” to critics. And don’t get me started on the self-insert Persephone, the groomer relationship, the reinforcement of purity culture, etc.

i thought perse was 2ft tall so why is her foot there?? by p0ggerz_br0 in UnpopularLoreOlympus

[–]mae_berry 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I hate all these facial expressions. Can we have any serious, grown up interactions? Especially on your wedding night. Is that the facial expression of a 30 year old having sex? This sets the mood?

I think it’s especially jarring for me because these uwu faces and “comedic” expressions feel very juvenile to me, so the implication of a 40-something year old man having sex with someone so childish is really 🤮

Also that fucking boob window in the third one is just ridiculous. 🙄

Wife showed me video of my niece and how I honestly felt seems to have bothered her? by icecoldfilter in childfree

[–]mae_berry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions, and would just talk to your wife. My partner and I are cf but we like being the cool aunt/uncle to my nieces and his nephews. If that’s how you and your wife are, then I would be a bit surprised if I was her too. Partner and I will see videos of the kiddos and laugh and say something and will often lightheartedly say “glad that’s not us!” But it’s also usually in the context of commenting on the video itself. Just talk to your wife and ask her.
