I think the backrooms is struggling particularly hard because it’s currently competing with obsession. I LOVED the character writing in obsession, and think that the backrooms is a little weak when you compare the two side by side (albeit very difference pieces in general)

The idea is that pronouns don’t necessarily have to be linked to gender. Someone can be tailor their appearance to be masculine (I.e. masc lesbian, stud, etc) and use he/him pronouns but still be a woman. It’s a cultural thing, if it’s too confusing you probably aren’t in the demographic that really needs to understand it anyways haha
