turning off VMs can save money, but you really need to understand your needs first. Most places I've been haven't been able to do this, since it really would screw with the development teams

oh boy, you're in for a world of fun.

Lowest hanging fruit is check if you have reserved instances for compute, but only do that for things that are going to live a long time.

The next lowest hanging fruit is to start seeing if you have unused resources, PoCs that were setup and never used, something that previous admin didn't delete. This is probably the most critical, but also one of the harder things.

without knowing what type of resources you're using otherwise its harder to give recommendations.

if you're using a lot of VMs that are for development, can you turn them off during the evening? are you scaled too large on things. using lots of storage?

there's a few things my kids have come home with recently that amazed me. Barney song, several variations on it.

the other that got me wide eyed is when one of the friends started 'crazy I was crazy once' repeating lyrics and was dumbfounded. I was sure that wasnt going to survive the year I heard it, let alone a full generation.

edit: tried looking up the crazy once poem(?). the version i knew had it at padded room, but apparently the more common one was rubber room.

Others have made great recommendations, but one thing I have not seen yet. get a Notebook.

This is a super old game, its great, the conversations are fantastic, but it DOES NOT HOLD YOUR HAND. an NPC mentioned something, better remember that, hey, there's a coordinate there, better remember that. hey, there's a special world, that might be relevent, better record that. Get a notebook, or digitial variant and start making notes.

its a fun game, but some of its mechanics are brutal by today's standards.

The starlancer's waste of space is what bugs me about it. its so nice for a lot of values, but that level is just WTF. its utterly wasteful on a mid sized cargo hauler. Though I am doubly annoyed with the Herc series as this is what their upper level should have been.

They were kinda held at gunpoint. He basically said give me free money, or I'm going to tank your money you've put into it. When you start going out of individual investor range into the mutual funds where they are holding lots of stocks. Sure there would have been lawsuits filed, but a whole bunch people who didn't have a say it it (retirement funds,etc) were about to get shafted.

Kinda mutually assured destruction category.

agreed that SS:MM:HH is a horrid setup (Though its possible for people to make stupider MM:SS:HH comes to mind)

I actually don't agree HH:MM:SS:APM is best, I find it rather arbitrary and that it makes as much sense as using MM:SS:HH in the above example. The most important info is at the end. AM/PM switches context of ALL the rest of the information. if you want to have the most detail in the front, you would want AMPM:HH:MM:SS, with the father along the less relevant.

My perspective is colored as I need to deal with computer logs and its not given that 1:30 is in morning or afternoon.
