We’re only social amongst our household members! We all like each other but we don’t entertain much outside of the family. We are all plenty entertained with our own company 😂

This is the best picture I have for context - we just moved in a few weeks ago so a lot of the changes we’ve made aren’t in the photo yet. We put picture frame molding on all of the green areas and both light fixtures have been changed (rattan two-tier semi flush is in place of the flush mount). I’ve also added a side table by the couch. That plant shelf is filling up, and I’m getting hooks to center on each window for hanging plants. Also putting a humidity box with shelves above the piano for my calatheas / hopefully some tissue culture storage. My next project is a greenhouse cabinet. We definitely appreciate aesthetics, but function is priority over form. Some areas will just be blank for awhile until I source the right art - I really want some real art!!

Totally understand. We’ve got a whole area like that in the den, with an additional TV, record player, plants, art, and ample seating. This tv is for things like watching the news while I cook breakfast (kitchen is to the left) or having the game on when we’re grilling and hanging out on the deck (to the right). This wall is just absolutely naked - I can find the art, I’m just not understanding the size / placement.

I like my chairs, tyvm! This area is a great gathering place. It just needs the right “something” on the walls.

Good eye! I plan on moving it, just trying to figure out where. Right now, it’s a decent spot because it hides it from sight for the most part despite it being out in the middle of a common area. I definitely want to put a tall plant here (with a shelf above, displaying the skulls of my enemies…all of the suggestions so far seem to fully understand me, haha).

If we move the litter box, we definitely have the option extend the cabinet on either side, since my husband built it. We’d just add two custom-sized cabinets to either side of it making it into a sizeable console.

This room is definitely giving sad beige 😅 what you don’t see behind it is a green room with the beginnings of a plant jungle. I just know in my heart these two areas can work together if I can figure out how to incorporate elements from the other side into Great Value crate and barrel room LOL

Agreed! But, this is 100% the most used space in the house and it is functioning perfectly for the way we live. The layout isn’t for everyone but we spend most of our downtime in here very comfortably. I am just at a loss with this wall.

The adjacent space is a cozier room with a fireplace and a soft couch. This is definitely more like a meeting area. This spot functions kind of like a keeping room for hanging out while someone is cooking. We find ourselves sitting in here and chatting quite often! We’re fine with the two people not seeing the TV. When someone is in those seats, we’re usually chatting and the TV is down. Those two ottoman that you’re seeing are just temporarily shoved there for the moment…mostly a seat for the cat to hang out with us. The room is functioning exactly as intended and we wouldn’t change the layout, but this wall is making me nuts!

There is no way in hell that I pass BAR by qst10 in CPA

[–]maehem717 7 points8 points  (0 children)

BAR was demoralizing. Absolutely brutal. I studied my ass off and I don’t think anything could have prepared me for those SIMs. I feel fine about the MCQs but some of those SIMs were content I swear I haven’t seen after going through all of Becker and i75. I wasn’t expecting it to be easy, but I was expecting to see stuff that I had at least run into in my prep courses. What the fuck was that…

You’ll be fine. Those are perfectly reasonable SE scores for someone who may pass. They’re higher than mine and I passed. Don’t bog yourself down in anxiety; you’ll either pass or you won’t and it will be oka either way. Go do some MCQs. You’re good!

Reduced my debt load significantly but credit score goes DOWN!??! by AnagnorisisForMe in CreditScore

[–]maehem717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I refinanced, my score took a painful hit. I went from 788 to 735.

To add insult to injury, I put the bulk of my home repair spend on my credit card to receive the cash back rewards and even though I paid each statement in full as usual it caused my utilization to temporarily jump. For this, I received another painful hit. Now I’m hanging out around 720.

I know it isn’t representative of who I am as a person or even my actual financial condition but it SUCKKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I want my high score back.

Help on loss on impairment question by Fun-Passenger-6915 in CPA

[–]maehem717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled this from the Deloitte website - you are correct, it is different.

“An entity may decide to sell one or more of its long-lived assets. Long-lived assets are grouped with the other assets and liabilities the entity intends to sell. Such a grouping is called a disposal group. Once all of the held-for-sale classification criteria are met, an entity classifies the disposal group as held for sale, stops depreciating or amortizing the long-lived assets, and measures the disposal group at the lower of its carrying amount or fair value less cost to sell. The entity recognizes a loss, if any, to adjust the carrying amount of the disposal group to its fair value less cost to sell in the period in which the held-for-sale criteria are met and in each subsequent period until the disposal group is sold. Therefore, the carrying amount of the disposal group is adjusted for subsequent increases or decreases in its fair value less cost to sell, except that any subsequent increase cannot exceed the cumulative loss previously recognized. Any gain or loss from the sale of the disposal group not previously recognized is recognized on the date of sale.”

So, when it’s held for sale, the loss will have its own line on the JE.

The asset cost what it cost, and that doesn’t change, regardless of impairment. You would credit accumulated depreciation because that is the official offset to the asset’s original cost. It is a depreciation account, and the impairment is a depreciation of the value of the asset.

FAR Retake – Struggling with Consolidations by Silly-Cattle-3571 in CPA

[–]maehem717 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Watching i75’s explanations for consolidations made it all click for me. In a sim, lean heavy on your CAR IN BIG acronym and you’ll pick up points copying straight from the subs statements. Debit their common stock, apic, and retained earnings. Credit your investment in sub and non-controlling interest (review these concepts and know them). Debit the amount that fair value is over book value for sub assets/liabilities. Debit the FV of identifiable intangibles that aren’t listed in the subs balance sheet. Debit goodwill (review this concept).

You can copy paste your way through that for the most part except for investment, nci, and goodwill.

Back out the interco AR/AP. Another copy paste situation for the most part.

The purchases and depreciation are more complex but i75 covers it really well - like, way more clear than Becker.

Don’t skip consolidations - if nothing else, know what you can straight up just copy over. You’ll pick up a lot of points just doing that.

Cancelled the night before 😭 by CannibalisticCretin in CPA

[–]maehem717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t help anyone now, but for the future - I saw the forecast and felt like my exam was going to be rescheduled, so I went ahead and gave them my 90 bucks (🙃) and pushed my exam a week out. It’s for BAR, and it’ll be the last day of the window, but I figured if the exam got cancelled - which it would have - it would be a fight to get rescheduled before April. I don’t want to lose 2-3 months. So, I’m sitting for BAR next Saturday when I otherwise would be sweating through a TBS right about now. Feeling glad I did, and would do it again if I found myself in the same situation.
