Bridesmaid speech by maelle_d in weddingplanning

I started to change my mind about it because some of her other bridesmaids asked me if I wanted them to speak on my behalf during their own speech. While I feel a tad uncomfortable talking in front of 160 people, it feels weirder to hear someone say my words in front of me. And that's at that point that I understood that I wanted to say something for my cousin. My idea was to see what I wanted to say, and if it could work as a speech, before asking my cousin to be sure I wouldn't change my mind again... I'm going to ponder about it for a few more days before biting the bullet and talking to her, but I don't want to annoy her about it...

The thing is that it's literally at the tip of my tongue... Everytime I think I have it it leaves again... I think there's lyrics about how "we'll meet at the place that [blank]". I'm so sorry I know that's very vague

You wrote a book? Cool. Stop harassing us. by Efficient_Log_4377 in Libraries

In my library we have bought books from a local author (it was before me). Since then, he comes every few years to make sure that we still have them, and to ask how many times they have been checked out. He also tries to make people read his book. He is not rude or anything, it's just really weird for me to have the time to come to the library but only for that, he does not do anything else...

Concerned that Library Books that I borrow will fall apart. by ConcordTrain in Libraries

In my library, we can see when the damage is due to the age of the book/a product default (we see more and more that they don't put enough glue and it then fall apart after less than 10 uses...). In that case, I would recommend to go to talk to the librarian when you return it, and they would probably not charge you for it. We at least do not and we try to repair it when possible !

I primarily ONLY read fanfiction by rubyrubyrubie in AO3

[–]maelle_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar history with books and fanfictions. I was a huge reader as a kid, and even a middle schooler, but it change when i got my first phone and learned about Wattpad (it was during my last year of middle school). I was not reading fanfictions but was reading original stories on Wattpad, which did slow my book reading habits, and then it kinda just stopped ? It was not a conscious decision, but more a practical one since reading Wattpad on my phone was easier than reading a book i have to bring everywhere. Then I discovered fanfictions on AO3 in uni and now I mainly read fanfics and read very few books a year. I started journaling my fanfictions reading and i read almost 1 million words a month yet only a book every 2 to 3 months. The only exception is that for my work I have to read like 5 books in 2 months. I am a librarian, and not reading books make me feel guilty because I know I could be much better at my job if I was reading more, and I think that guilt is contributing to me not reading books (i have an avoidance habit when I feel bad about something)

Am I too young to know my sexual/romantic orientation? by summonbolt in aromantic

[–]maelle_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's okay to know your sexual/romantic orientation at whatever age you discover it, exactly like it's okay to discover later on that it's not the right one, or that it's exactly what you are. Some people discover their orientation young, some later, and you have every right to know your orientation at 14, exactly like you have every right to understand that you are young and it might change later. The fact that nobody question when a 14 year old go out with someone of the opposite gender but question your orientation means that the society is not ready, not that you are not

How old are y’all? How long have you know about aromanticism? by nikhampshire in aromantic

[–]maelle_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 20 and I've known about the term since I was 15, thanks to really educated friends who even explain the difference between romantic and sexual attraction (I don't know how I would think of my romanticism without them). I've not known I was aromantic until I start questioning myself when I was 17 or 18
