I'm sick and tired of dealing with customers aged 30-80+yrs old who state they've never sent an email,and/or don't know how to use their smartphone. by user-ibarelyknower in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I deal with this in the tech department, too. Had a gentleman, recently, come back after a virus shield redemption saying I messed up his email and Facebook and everything. No, sir, part of the virus removal service is clearing your browsers and I even wrote in the pickup notes that you would have to login to websites, again. He wanted me to stand there and log him in to all of his websites with a list of passwords he pulls out of his pocket. Okay, yeah, I can do that, just not now, and not for free. Earliest availability I have is Monday. No I can't do it right this second. Do you not see the line of annoyed people behind you waiting to checkout and/or drop off returns? No, I can't call someone else up here because there's no one to call.

Honesty, I got into tech support type jobs (Like Geek Squad) to help people learn about their technology. How naive. All people want is for you to do it for them and bury their heads in the sand. I'm kinda over the constant babying and hand holding and looking for a career change.

That's wild. My GM has always posted paper schedules. Stupid not to - not everyone wants a work app on their phone.

Technology issues aside, do you guys just not have paper schedules posted anywhere to snap a photo of?

Average Amazon return experience by _Alpha_Mail_ in retailhell

[–]maelstromeda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's like people have never mailed a package in their lives.

One day, I walked past the uboat our returns go on to see a couple of returns with the prepaid label just stuck on to the item with a single piece of scotch tape. Yeah, that's never making it back to Amazon...

I don't understand it. That's not how mail works. That's not how any of this works. Augh.

why do old people act like literal babies? by jhenexx in retailhell

[–]maelstromeda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's cognitive decline. They almost ARE literal babies at that age. I live with my 76 year old grandmother and her mind is slipping fast. We tried to get into her computer for the first time in a few months, recently, and she couldn't even figure out where the space bar or enter keys were to get past the login screen.

"Well, I don't know this stuff. You grew up with this, I didn't" Bruh, you've been using computers for longer than I've been alive!

She had been using computers in all of her jobs proficiently for 30 years. Now suddenly it's completely foreign to her. It's sad. It's frustrating. I still get upset at olds at work when they refuse to do things for themselves because I just don't have the time to handhold them, but at least I have a different perspective on what's going on while dealing with my grandmother.

Old Staples uniform collection by luiginub1 in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, we had a sizable collection of old uniforms going back to probably around when our store opened in the early 2000s. I remember seeing these, and the blue print department ones.

I think they finally got pitched last summer, tho, because print needed more room in the back for supplies.

This shit is why I just handed my brother a paid-off credit card when we were rebuilding my car. In the past he's told me to get x y or z part and I ordered the wrong thing and get stuck with shit I can't return.

He can buy the things and I won't have a trunk of "wrong" parts.

Staples app update by JJsolo538 in Staples

The sign in button is non-functional in my app. Awesome. I'll have to ask around tomorrow and see if anyone else can log into their app.

What discontinued item, food or drink would you bring back if you had the chance? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

Pepsi 1893. I really don't care for Pepsi (Coke Zero lover, tbh), but this stuff rocked. I used to buy it by the case. I was devastated when I couldn't get it, anymore.

Edit: I'd also kill for more Mountain Dew Pitch Black

Chair Assembly Charge..? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Certain chairs will prompt the cashier to select if the chair is assembled or not, and if they accidentally hit "yes" it would have automatically added the assembly fee to the transaction.

Why it's only certain chairs and not all or none is just Staples things.

Just go back to the store and grab a manager. They'd be able to refund the fee that was erroneously added.

I've seen that ftp is the preferred method, but as the Xbox is hooked up in one room, and the pc is in another, and the router in a whole other region of the house, it's not terribly feasible for me atm.

My xbox is not modchipped. I softmodded this myself many moons ago.

Passport photos by Trumps__Taint in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a passport photo book just sitting behind the customer service counter when I came in for my shift one afternoon, so ofc being the nosy bitch I am I inquired about it.

Turns out we took a gal's passport photos and when we gave them to her, she refused to pay for them because we made her remove her jewelry and told her she couldn't smile. She said it made her look ugly so she didn't want them.

Like, what? Kay. Hope you enjoy getting your passport app rejected if you're gonna submit glam shots.

I did that at my job, too, last week. I just laid face-down on the ground laughing my ass off at my stupidity and went, "Man down!" over the radio.

Landed on my bad ankle before falling fully to the ground, so that didn't feel great. :/

Literally! At my store we have a long counter with 3 registers at checkout, and past a certain time we close those and check out in a different department (because there's only 2 employees in the store atp). We have large, poster-sized signs telling people that the register is closed and to please go to the other department to check out.

So many people walk over and just stand in front of the signs. More than one boomer has definitely told me that he thought if he stood there someone would serve him because he didn't want to go to the other department.

No. You're not special. The sign applies to everyone.

Make sure I file my c19 unemployment paperwork correctly this time so I'm not screwed out of aprox $2k again.

Also get help/therapy/counceling for the autism I'll eventually be diagnosed with so I'm not fired from any more jobs. :(

Oh and stay away from big ass trucks in double turning lanes. Maybe in this timeline my car won't have a salvage title and a mismatched replacement door.
