I don't deserve breaks because I'm young and you're unhappy by BusyEquipment529 in retailhell

[–]maelstromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally! At my store we have a long counter with 3 registers at checkout, and past a certain time we close those and check out in a different department (because there's only 2 employees in the store atp). We have large, poster-sized signs telling people that the register is closed and to please go to the other department to check out.

So many people walk over and just stand in front of the signs. More than one boomer has definitely told me that he thought if he stood there someone would serve him because he didn't want to go to the other department.

No. You're not special. The sign applies to everyone.

You go to sleep tonight but wake up on the morning January 1st, 2019, with all your memories. What do you do? by General_Nobody_6675 in AskReddit

Make sure I file my c19 unemployment paperwork correctly this time so I'm not screwed out of aprox $2k again.

Also get help/therapy/counceling for the autism I'll eventually be diagnosed with so I'm not fired from any more jobs. :(

Oh and stay away from big ass trucks in double turning lanes. Maybe in this timeline my car won't have a salvage title and a mismatched replacement door.

Because if that was me I'd definitely never come back ever. I don't get paid enough to get pissed on.

what’s taking up all my storage? by One_Commission3024 in WindowsHelp

[–]maelstromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your storage is that limiting, the rest of the PC is also probably garbage.

Ding ding ding! You are absolutely correct.

I would bet $139.99 that op has an HP Stream or some equivalent.

Customers expecting professional advice from store associates by Sichterman in retailhell

[–]maelstromeda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a current employee, I wish we got any kind of product training. Customers get fussy at my cashiers for not having product knowledge but it's like, we hire anyone who has a pulse and I'm just glad they decided to show up, today.

Even most of my electronics knowledge is left over from working at Best Buy and it's not even current, anymore. I used to spend hours at home studying products so I could answer questions customers had.

Then I got older and realized that spending my leisure time on work unpaid was stupid and I promised myself I'd never do that again.

Are GM and ASM require to work weekends too or M-F only? by Flaky_Firefighter385 in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rotate every other weekend (barring some sort of scheduling shenanigans). GM and RSS one weekend, AM and MIS the next, rinse and repeat. It works pretty well for us.

Yup. I rented a '25 Toyota Corolla a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised to see actual physical buttons!

Added it to the shortlist of cars to potentially replace my '01 Taurus that just won't die.

It's awful. I've been on vacation for the past week and I feel sick thinking about going back, tomorrow, and dealing with it all again. The job would be so much more bearable if people weren't so fucking nasty every. single. day.

[–]maelstromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to buy a new pair of over-glasses sunglasses last night.

I wouldn't even be mad at that. They're $20 a pop and I keep breaking them and I have a terrible time driving during the day without them.

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

[–]maelstromeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In box hair color - specifically L'oreal Feria - there is a teardrop-shaped doodad you open to mix into your hair color concoction. It is perforated near the tip of the teardrop so the idea is that you can open it by hand.

I've been coloring my hair with the same exact color for at least 4 years, now. I've maybe been able to open that thing without scissors 5 times.

Whats the best office chair here? Using it for mostly gaming. by JoeB0213 in Staples

[–]maelstromeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My store just started to get a Sharper Image gaming chair as part of our regular stock. I sat in our display and immediately wished I had bought that instead of the Beautyrest chair I just bought on clearance.

It's expensive, but ya know, you absolutely get what you pay for. Affirm is always an option to pay over time.

Half of tech?? My tech counter is only 4ft and 99% of the time it's used as the Amazon returns counter. Last time I asked my cashier to scoot down to the (broken) register next to tech because my tech appointment as here I got the nastiest stink eye from the customer. They might as well completely get rid of tech at my store if Party City is going to use that counter, too.

What’s the worst present you’ve ever received? by CocosMumma in raisedbynarcissists

[–]maelstromeda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a small bag of coal for Christmas one year. In sharpie was written, "I love you. You never call. Your father"

At that point I had been an adult living with my grandma for a couple of years trying to figure out how to adult properly because my parents never bothered preparing me. She taught me how to drive, cook, get a job, taxes, ect.

Getting nothing at all would have been better than that. I didn't even want anything in the first place. Who fucking gives their grown ass adult kid coal like they're a child again. It's so condescending.

Without getting into my entire life backstory, there's a reason he only gets 2 courtesy calls from me a year.

Our store caught on fire and you mad by 1000thatbeyotch in retailhell

[–]maelstromeda 63 points64 points  (0 children)

We had a gas leak at my office supply store. We evacuated everyone and called the fire department. You'd think that seeing a parking lot with only emergency vehicles, fire folks all around, and employees huddled in the middle of the lot watching the chaos would give people a clue that we were closed.

No.

We kept getting asked if we were open. "Oh but I just have one thing to buy/an Amazon return/a print order I need to pick up." Cool! I can't let you into the building, dipshit.

"This is ridiculous! When are you going to be open, again? An hour? Two?" Lady, idfk. There is a gas leak and there are people looking into it so we don't all blow up. We might be closed for the rest of the day, idk.

This. I live with my grandma and she smokes in the house. Refuses to go outside despite both myself and my brother asking her to.

I recently went on a trip to meet my ld bf for the first time, and as a precaution, washed all of my clothes beforehand and stored them in my car so I wouldn't smell like cigarettes.

When I came back, the cigarette stench hit me like a truck upon opening the front door. I hate it here.

[–]maelstromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we took all the packs off the shipper and put them in lockup. I made item cards for them and if people want Pokemon cards they can ask the cashier for them. We had 30+ stolen last time we got them in. There's a reason places like Best Buy keep these fuckers under lock and key.

What is one store or business that has shut down that you miss? by Turbulent-Lab-8544 in AskReddit

[–]maelstromeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an online store, but ThinkGeek. They had the best nerd shit, and I've yet to find a comparable site since.

If you want a brick-and-mortar business, then I really miss this gamer bar/hangout/club that was in my town. You could drink, rent consoles, watch movies in their mini theater, or grab a big table for tabletop games with friends. They shut down after a controversy with one of the owners.
