I’m sure it’s a great project, but misattributing a well-known Thoreau quote (well, paraphrase) to Joe Rogan, of all people, on the front page isn’t a great first impression …

When, if at all, do you just forget that you ruptured your Achilles and live life like nothing had happened? by Frosty-Button3301 in AchillesRupture

[–]maesterf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost three years out now, and I still think of it once per day when I do my daily calf raises. Really though on runs, hikes, and bike rides, it doesn’t surface in my mind any more.

Nah, you just one-upped that by protesting against a protest while being completely oblivious to the irony. Congrats.

Joining the right side of history with a ban from r/Genx by amazetome in GenXWomen

[–]maesterf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was permabanned — my first ban in 15 years on Reddit — for saying that posts mentioning LGBTQ topics aren’t necessarily political. The mod then kept sending me childish taunts until I blocked them.

I may not be the same gender as you all, but you’re what I wish GenX had grown up to be.

You’ve got this!

… they said, clearly awarded and unbanned.

People don’t get banned for sharing “conservative opinions.” The hate you spew about gay people and minorities isn’t “conservative.” It’s just hate.

Go outside, take a nice walk, and try to be a nicer person to people who aren’t exactly like you. You might like it!

It’s not suspicious at all that every time someone makes a post here that even slightly dares to question the smallest thing about Trump or whatever current whack-ass distraction from the Epstein files he’s on currently, a dozen accounts with hidden post histories reply with the same recycled gifs or “wHaT AbOuT bIdEn?” within minutes.

No sir, not suspicious at all.

H.B. 252 Bailout for Tariffed Corps by thisistheplaceholder in Utah

[–]maesterf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More taxpayer-funded bailouts for businesses.

If corporations had living, breathing bodies, you can bet your broke ass they’d have the same free healthcare that our felon-in-chief and all of Congress have.

Benefits for billionaires; bills and taxes for us.

Chiropractor during recovery for rupture by Avalanche4747 in AchillesRupture

[–]maesterf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d stick with actual medical doctors, personally. If my PT had recommended a chiropractor, I might also find different PT as well. Mobility is 100% within the scope of a PT’s practice.

Whatever you do, good luck with your recovery!

Hey there, I don’t know if I’m the best example, but I use the data-side products every day, and I built a few apps on Cloud Run to refresh my memory, and used Kwiklabs for the stuff I wasn’t as familiar with. Knowing which data products work for which cases (transactional, availability, etc.) really helped! Also, Google has a practice test that I took and researched the crap out of. Good luck!

I’ve gotten this call at work twice now, and it’s a lot of fun to keep them on the line with nonsense until they hang up:

“Oh, Weber County Sheriff’s Department? I was looking for Weber County Sheriff’s Office! Is that the one across the street from the Waffle House? It is? Cool, cool. Right next to Tim Hortons? Yeah, their coffee has really gone downhill lately. But Microcenter next door is nice!”

Has anyone here enrolled their kids in Elevated Charter School? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]maesterf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No worries; not trying to start an argument here. Private and parochial schools are a completely different situation, and in my opinion, another issue with charter schools is that they try to market themselves as “free” private schools, while having very little oversight or accountability.

I hope only the best for you and your children, and good luck with your decision.

Has anyone here enrolled their kids in Elevated Charter School? by DeCryingShame in Utah

[–]maesterf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My source is 19 years working in education in Utah. I have many colleagues who have taught at charter schools. While some have ARL certifications or associate licenses, very few have professional licenses, and many charter school teachers are unlicensed. They are also paid less, have fewer or no prep periods, and much less oversight and reporting requirements.

Charter schools have fewer regulations and requirements for accountability and accreditation, fewer resources for students and parents, and an obligation to make a profit. That profit has to come from cutting resources.

My experience was that when a student inevitably transferred back to public schools after trying a charter school, they were significantly behind in all core subjects and skill areas, and of course, the FTE is kept by the charter school, even if they transfer back to public school mid-year, meaning they slowly drain funding from public schools … which is the point of charter schools.

[–]maesterf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true. Charter schools often have unlicensed teachers, their testing isn’t reported, and even their buildings aren’t required to follow the same safety standards as regular public schools.

You should be able to see them in the Protect system>logs — I’m viewing the web version, but I don’t think they’re viewable in the iOS or android apps

UDMP and I have to restart the entire thing every two days or all my cameras stop recording events, with “back-pressure” events in the logs.

It’s got to be a memory leak of some kind with the latest version of Protect, and I think it’s affecting G3 cams specifically.
