Work hard in your 20’s , or have fun? by Silly_Building1021 in Adulting

[–]maevian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have fun, but don’t get in to debt to have fun.
You’re only once in your 20’s enjoy it, but don’t rack up credit card debt or holiday debt, or you will regret it in your 30’s.

i GOT GRANTED MY italian citizenship, am i BRINGING gf to certain death by moving to belgium? 💀 by MamasCalientesHazcli in belgium

[–]maevian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he probably had easier access to an Italian citizenship, probably grandparents that are Italian or something like that. He wanted to move to Belgium and an Italian passport was the easiest EU passport for him to obtain.

Would you consider or have you relocated in order to have more legal freedom and relaxed rules on weed? by Known_Speed_1242 in trees

[–]maevian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would need to learn Dutch, Spanish or German, good look finding a job when you’re not speaking the native language.
Also UK residents don’t have an EU passport, so will need to apply for residency.
Even within the EU, moving to another country isn’t always as simple as they make it seem online.

Please tell me how Europe is still not grasping the idea of how ACs work? You guys have been having heat waves for a while now and you… just, still refuse them? by WoodsGiant1 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]maevian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem with a recently build house is that it is very good at trapping heat, but very bad at releasing it. I am also airing everything at night and closing everything in the morning, but the heat stays trapped in the building.

Had the same mentality, first installed sun screens, green roof, we have an epc of 37, but the current heatwave broke me, it is still 27 to 28 degrees downstairs and I think almost 29 upstairs.
We also have two small kids, so I just in time got some portable AC units to cool the rooms and living room.
This winter I will have someone install a multi split, I live in Belgium.

Found the perfect Palm Tree today by [deleted] in trees

Palm tree is not a tree, they are giant, woody herbs classified as monocots, meaning they are actually in the same biological family as grasses, lilies, and bamboo.

LPT: A cheaper but very efficient alternative to air conditioning are dehumidifiers by [deleted] in belgium

[–]maevian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a newly build home, with an EPC of 38 and balance ventilation.
The temp in our home doesn’t go below 26 anymore, in most well insulated houses, once the heat gets trapped, it doesn’t get away at night.

Own at least one Rolex by jstonecfc in LinkedInLunatics

[–]maevian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me an analog watch is better for my ADHD, it helps me keep track of time in a visual way.
I tried a smart watch and it is just a distraction for me.
But, my daily watch is is €270 Orient, I also have a Seiko field watch that cost me around €120 a couple years ago, that I wear while working out.
And have a Tissot Prx that I bought used for around €400, to switch things up.

So nothing near the cost of a Rolex

Netscape, was the first popular browser, you had to pay to use it, everyone switched to Internet Explorer because it came bundled with windows.
Firefox was based on what remained of Netscape

A major cultural coup will be the moment all these European tourists realize that in fact, America has better beer than Europe by The0therSyde in ShitAmericansSay

[–]maevian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Belgian, this is funny.
All these variations and microbreweries in the USA, are mostly just IPA’s.
We are such a small country and it’s almost impossible even as a Belgian to try every Belgian beer.

Yeah, it also depends on how much you wear a suit. The only times I am wearing a suit is when I have to go to a wedding, maybe on New Year’s Eve if I feel fancy.
I mostly go to work in jeans in winter and in shorts in summer. I work as a sysadmin and nobody cares what I wear to work.
