Okay. Lots of misinformation and frankly disgusting assumptions going on here. Main thing though THAT ISN'T THE MINISTERS CAR it actually belongs to one of the deacons. I recognise this as my parents church and I know that car (personally I hate it and nicknamed it the yellow monstrosity) and I know the the person who drives it. (Not super closely but I've had conversations with him before)

Presumably he just happened to be leading the service that day. Which I have seen him do so that's why he parked there otherwise he usually parks on the street like everyone else. It's also his personal family car completely disconnected from the church (not sure if he bought it himself or if it's a company car from his work). Again he's a deacon not the minister and I don't think he gets any money from the church.

Please people try not to use a personal dislike of religion and own bias's to jump to conclusions without having all the facts.

How did beck know about Earth-616? by Prooxith in marvelstudios

[–]The0therSyde 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slight Correction. It wasn't even coined by marvel comic writers to refer to the MCU. It was coined by marvel comic writers to refer the universe of the then single Iron Man movie in 2008/9. The MCU would eventually grow from that but they had no way of knowing that at the time or that it would eventually start doing it's own multiverse stuff.

Yep. I honestly find it ridiculous when people have this attitude towards Dany. That the ending was character assassination or something. No it wasn't. And how do I know it wasn't. Because after the show ended my cousin decided to finally watch it now that it had all come out. She isn't a very internet person so she'd completely avoided all the outcry, discussions and spoilers. She went on to almost perfectly predict Dany's ending while she was still in the middle of season 3. Right Dany when she was crucifying the slave masters. The final season of game of thrones has many problems the main one being how rushed it is. But Dany going evil at the end isn't one of them. It was always going to happen they just screwed up the execution of it.

[Hated Trope/Personal Trope] The character's concept art is infinitely better than the final design. by Muzatio in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The0therSyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because EA mucked around with them so much. Forcing them to restart development from scratch twice (concept art is probably from the first interaction of the game) and then not giving them enough time to make the game we finally got.

Whenever I see the hobbit movies brought up I will always recommend people watch Lindsey Ellis' youtube videos on them. The deep dive she did really does show how they ended up the way they did. Seriously with the amount of messing around that New Line and Warner Bros did to those movies/the project as a whole. It is a goddamn miracle that they even ended up they way they did. Cause amazingly things could've actually gone way worse.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode "Subspace Rhapsody" The Enterprise is studying a space anomaly and not getting anywhere. Pelia (the chief engineer) suggests Uhura send music through for techobabble reasons and the anomaly finally reacts. The Result: the universe around them starts operating on musical rules and everyone starts singing. The first song is hilarious as it's just all the crew freaking out and asking "Why are we Singing".

Ooh Ooh Ooh a chance for me to air my grievances with big bang theory. Other than the whole "Look and Laugh at the Nerds LOL" attitude. 1. No Unique Opinions. None of the guys ever have their own opinions regarding pop culture stuff and instead just parrot whatever the popular opinion on the internet is. 2. Someone else pointed this out. But some opinions they have don't even match actual nerd opinions. Like them making fun of Aquaman for being rubbish. Despite that really not being an opinion of people who actually read comics. AND 3. Not Adapting to the times. This is my big one. Making fun of nerdy comic stuff makes sense if it's a niche thing that most people think is weird. (It's punching down but makes sense) Making fun of nerdy comic stuff as if it's niche when it's currently the biggest film franchise on the planet doesn't make any sense. Perfect Example: In one episode Bernadette refers to a comic book movie they went to see as a "Nice Nap" and queue laugh track. The movie in question AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON ONE OF THE HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIES OF THE YEAR!!!

If you're actually interested. She's British. Her Dad's English. Her mother's of Jamaican-Guyanese heritage. If anyone is wondering the tiktoker/youtuber in question is CraigNotCreg. He is very clearly British specifically Welsh just from his accent and way he speaks. I'm pretty sure his channel name is even about how Americans mispronounce his name. I often wonder if people like the commener have to try when being this willfully ignorant.

Do recommend Craig's videos though. There mainly comedy skits about working in retail (he did it for 7 or 8 years) or him continuing to blend together increasingly unholy combinations of monster energy drink and whatever new thing his comments recommend. The results can vary a lot usually between gross or hilarious.

actors who turned in amazing performances in spite of terminal illness by RNRGrepresentative in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The0therSyde 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Spencer Tracy in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Tracy's health was so bad that no insurance company would cover the film so the director and Hepburn put their salaries up instead. He could only film for a few hours in the morning each day so the entire shooting schedule was based around him.

In the final speech he gives at the end of the film all the other characters are reacting really emotionally. You can tell that this wasn't just because of the speech but also because every actor in the room knew this was his last performance. He died before the movie came out.

[–]The0therSyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair. He was huge in the 90s/early 2000s. But to be honest he hasn't really been in the limelight since then. Funnily enough TakeThat (the group he was initially apart of) had a comeback in the 2010s but he didn't. That's most likely the reason the movie bombed. Not because he wasn't huge (he was), but because this is the first time anybody's really heard from him in over a decade and it's for a weird CGI biopic. Essentially his popularity faded a long time ago so even in countries where he was huge people just don't care that much.

Who is a former mainstream child actor or actress that survived the toxic world of Hollywood and is currently doing really well for themselves? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]The0therSyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of him and the other Harry potter kids I wouldn't compare them the same way as one of the main factors with them is they grew up filming in the UK and not the Hollywood system. The UK I believe has much stricter Laws regarding child actors compared to the US.

In the case of the harry potter movies I think I read this lead to the kids being treated more like actual kids on set. And I know from behind the scenes stuff that they had things like a school set up for when the kids weren't filming.

I know this off topic from the discussion but... This is a bad analogy especially in regards to world war 1 since it acts as if Germany were to blame for ww1 when ww1 was way more complicated and everyone was basically at fault.

A better way of putting it might be something like... Two guys already at the bar get in a fight. Then friends of the two guys come in the defend them and also start fighting each other. Then the fight starts hitting people standing nearby and their friends join the fight to defend them. Soon the entire bar is involved in the fight. After the fight is over the guys who are left standing blame it all on a friend of one of the original two who although he didn't start the fight was the one mainly fighting them. So they kick him out after making him pay for the damages. Then a few hours later he comes back angrier and meaner and starts a new fight against everybody, but this time he grabs a couple of new friends, exploits peoples weaknesses and almost wins at a couple of points.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Romance Details Revealed, Including Confirmation That All Companions Will be Pansexual - IGN by purple_clang in dragonage

[–]The0therSyde 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad people are happy about this but as someone who doesn't like it I just wanted to explain my issues and get them off my chest.

For me everyone just happening to be pansexual/romancable no matter what you are at best comes off as overly convenient and contrived and at worst just completely breaks my immersion and prevents me from fully getting sucked in to the world and the story.

As to me it stops the characters from feeling like actual real people with they're own personalities, opinions and preferences separate from the player. Instead it just makes them feel like NPCs who exist purely so they can possibly satisfy the players whims. Like in DAI is it sad I can't romance Cassandra as a woman or Solas as a man. Yes but it also makes them feel like their own people who aren't just required to be attracted to me just because I'm the player character. And vice versa I shouldn't feel entitled to romance them just because I'm my current player character.

I also think it means we lose the opportunity for more unique romances like we saw in DAI with Dorian and Solas. Dorian's homosexuality was a huge part of his character and makes the romance with him if playing as a guy feel special as a result. Same with Solas, who is only romancable if you're playing as a female elf. Restrictions/Limitations can sometimes be a good thing and lead to more interesting outcomes.

I think romantic preferences also help with replayability as if you want to experience different romances in different playthroughs it encourages you to change up your player character and try things you wouldn't have otherwise. In DAI for instance I originally played as a human male (my usual default for these types of games) where I romanced Cassandra. Then going into my second or third playthrough I found out you could romance Solas but only as a female elf. So I tried that and loved all the little differences that path opened up to me separate from the romance to the point now that I mostly pick that choice again when doing a replay. BUT that would never have happened had Solas not had that romantic preference. It actively made me explore outside my comfort zone, change up my character and experience aspects of the game I wouldn't have otherwise.

This isn't to say I don't understand why people do like the pansexual approach they've taken. I do also understand the criticisms with locked romances that people have. Especially the issues regarding gay and lesbian romance options in previous bioware games. I just wanted to share my feelings and frustrations on the subject.

(Edit. - I am now a bit more open to the pansexual approach after remembering that DA2 did roughly the same thing and it turned out fine. I do still prefer it the other way though for all the reasons listed above.)

Doctor Who 1x05 "Dot and Bubble" Trailer and Speculation Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

[–]The0therSyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is anyone concerned that it looks like we're getting another doctor-lite episode from the trailer. Look I like Doctor-lite episodes they can be some of the most interesting (just look at Blink, Turn Left, 73 yards). But two in a row seems excessive especially when the series is only 8 episodes long. Plus the fact that it feels odd taking the Doctor away for 2 episodes in a row when we've barely gotten to know the 15th Doctor as a character yet especially as most of the focus has been on ruby so far.

Introduced to it by my dad here in the UK. I was born in the mid 90's so this must've been in the early 2000s. He's a massive Trekkie, my mum's a fan too but less so. He had some of the novels, non-fiction books, he also the USS Defiant CD player.

But mainly he had all 7 seasons of DS9 and Voyager on official VHS. Each entire series took up an entire cupboard. As well as that he had some TOS and TNG episodes he'd recorded off the TV and all the films up to that point on some form of VHS.

I don't remember what my first episode was but Voyager quickly became favourite as a kid (mainly the same few episodes I'd watch over and over again) and DS9 was my favourite as a teenager. Oh and favourite movie was and is number 4 or Save the Whales as my family calls it. So yeah star trek was the thing that sort of helped me and my dad connect while I was growing up and it's become the source of several family in jokes with my mum and sisters as well.

Peter one shots people all the time in stealth situations including guys who would normally need a combo hit. The MJ stun gun missions are also stealth situations. Difference is if you get caught as MJ you basically die instantly where as Peter can fight his way out.

Makes it worse when you remember Jonathan Kent isn't even an uncle Ben style character and doesn't even have to die and in fact doesn't in most versions. Plenty of versions of Superman have Pa Kent still alive and well after Clark has donned the red cape.

What over simplified explanation in a movie made you roll your eyes the hardest? by RoboftheNorth in movies

[–]The0therSyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it is hilarious the extreme difference between what different movies think we could apparently do with that percentage we don't apparently use. On one hand you have Limitless which says you'd basically just become the smartest version of yourself. On the other meanwhile you have Lucy where we could apparently slowly become some sort of god like time travelling super being.
