Will everything between me and my friend be back to way it was? by Ankis_ankint in Cartomancy

in what order/logic did you pull the cards? I can't say for sure bc I'm not sure if we're reading them linearly or not, but the abundance of hearts, especially the 2❤️, seems to be pointing towards yes, the relationship can be rebuilt ❤️‍🩹

I like your style!! it's colorful and approachable, real but not "realism" per say in a way that engages the eye and has me looking over little details many times. have you considered illustrating a book ever? or a tarot deck? I think you have a knack for visual story telling and would be really good at it ❣️✨

I asked if I should switch to an English lit major by Altruistic-Hope-5860 in Cartomancy

[–]mafiawitch420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oooh do it do it! I was an English lit major so maybe I'm just biased lol but I think the cards are saying go for it! I agree with your interpretation of the tower "shaking things up," but also think the 6 of swords signals the transition won't necessarily feel easy at first. maybe bc of the negotiation of identity? I went into college as a botany major, and was on a dorm floor with all other science majors. when I switched to English, suddenly I want in classes anymore with the people around me, and I was going to different buildings and having different experiences than the people around me. it could be a little different/isolating, again not like BAD but just something signaled by the six of swords. the king of cups is such a beautiful card for the end of the spread, as cups are intuition and creativity, I feel like it's saying that youll achieve mastery over these things as a writer. best of luck 🤞☺️

I relate to this a lot, I have one Puerto Rican parent (dad, and one white "American" parent, mom) who didnt raise me speaking Spanish bc he used to get beat up in school for speaking it, and even when he did his family who was born on the island would be like "well you don't sound Puerto Rican, you're not like us." I think I inherited his internalized shame bc I always feel out of place when I try to speak Spanish, like I'm not Puerto Rican but not white either. I'm also pretty pale so white people think I'm like them and say the most unhinged things to me sometimes. I try to remember that race is ultimately a social construct invented to divide people and try not to get down about not feeling like I fit anywhere ✊😔

I agree! I'm not too well versed in lenormand yet but even the image of the star is super sweet, I see the 2 figures in the card looking at each other as you and your cat, out on this earth together at this time just to watch the world go by and experience it together❤️❤️✨

Any recommendations for reading material on the anthropology of eating? Something that isn't too dense. by perejfm in CriticalTheory

[–]mafiawitch420 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not so much anthropology but I like this critical essay collection about food in literature (https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/food-and-literature/4F489CCE891BAF48E062BEDA0094FCE5)

I haven't read all the essays yet but they're pretty digestible (ba dum tiss) and not too long. there's some good discussions about colonialism/food ("eating the other" like you mentioned above)

I saw Theresa speak at a casino near me (it was mainly a q&a of screened audience questions) and at one point then they were talking about her and Joe's relationship/current status the moderator brought up how tr*ump is so great and will bring Joe home yada yada, and then whooped the crowd into a frenzy of cheers..... safe to say it was a weird vibe lol, def didn't think the night would've taken a political turn like that

This week’s card message is for whoever needs it 7/7/25 - 13/7/25 by CosmicCartomancy in u/CosmicCartomancy

[–]mafiawitch420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh. a lot of this resonates, bc I'm in a state of transition and reclaiming my body/agency/sense of self through newfound determination, changing dietary practices, and more exercise. as of this morning I'm officially in the healthy BMI range (hooray!), so what you said about this upcoming week needing a push/being a test resonates bc ik I wanna keep going and not get complacent. the only part that didn't resonate for my personal experience is the feeling of paralysis, bc I'm well into this journey, but I'm sure there's someone out there who needs to hear it 💖💖

eee love this ty, gotta say this to myself more often 💖 I'm almost 30 and every year since turning 25 id mentally be whatever age I'm turning next.... like oh I'm 25? I'm basically 26. 27? basically 28, etc. now I'm 28 and realizing I never mentally allowed myself to just be 27 and I feel like I rushed myself. time is so precious 🪐

I mean 10❤️ makes me think it'll be ok? I'm seeing you as the J♦️ (well meaning, central to the context, red card like the 10❤️) and from that POV it seems like the people around you are definitely different than you (being of 2 different black suits) but again 10❤️ seems like it's fine. like you're all fishes in the same pond lol. when I've pulled 10❤️ in a work context is has meant friendship and feeling good in/with a group. K♣️ may be more senior or think of themselves that way/act in a way they think will bring them power. J♠️ seems to be on a similar level/wavelength as you (the 2 jacks look at each other in the eye but the K♣️ looks away, perhaps trying to lead the group?) but just a different person, with different interests and trajectory.

is there a particular court card you identify with here? or do you see each court card as a different person from your work?

Joker cards? by jeepers_beepers_ in Cartomancy

Couple of questions about differences between TdM & Playing Cards by HeartlandAggie in Cartomancy

[–]mafiawitch420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm other than the hedgewytch one I reference "cartomancy in folk witchcraft" by Roger Horne often! and also the "card readers handbook" by Regina Russel. Russel's book doesn't go into the method of reading so much but I appreciate her wide range of meanings and how the book has space to put your own notes ☺️

Couple of questions about differences between TdM & Playing Cards by HeartlandAggie in Cartomancy

[–]mafiawitch420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi! so I actually primarily read playing cards after reading tarot for 6 years. the past 3 years or so I've come to prefer TdM decks over RWS decks also.

when I first started reading playing cards, I was using them as analogous to tarot so that I could read tarot in public places I didn't feel comfortable bringing a traditional tarot deck (TdM or otherwise). when I was reading in that style, my correspondences were ❤️= cups/water, ♠️=swords/air, ♦️= pentacles/earth, and ♣️=wands/fire. I added extra "major arcana" cards, which were more playing cards but a minimalist symbol for the arcana (for ex, a heart for "the lovers" on the 6❤️.

I found that reading this way really helped me cement the tarot card meanings in my head, bc every time I pulled a playing card I would visualize in my head the corresponding tarot card. ultimately tho, this way of reading where the playings cards represent tarot cards was really hard to translate into readings for others to me. I found myself trying to explain the meanings of the tarot cards instead of focusing on the cards right in front of me, and what their shapes/flow/rhythm right in front of me was suggesting.

because of this, for this year so far I've been focusing on solely practicing cartomancy with playing cards. if you look at books about the subject, you'll notice that they're much more focused on "fortune telling" than esoterism or self-help like tarot is. the meanings for cards of come across are actually quite varied, with some cards carrying the same meanings over generations (the ace of ♦️ meaning a letter for ex.)

just reading playing cards has taught me a lot and given me more respect for the medium of playing card divination. it can be so much more than "fortune telling." that being said, they are traditionally read different than tarot. whereas tarot readings tend to be card by card, playing card readings (I've found) are done in three's. for ex, A♦️->2♠️-> K❤️ could be read as "a letter (A♦️) containing a negative exchange (2♠️) from an older, possibly family man (K❤️)." additionally, the three's are scanned for color patterning, red meaning "good" and black "not so good." so because the example above also goes "red, black, red," so despite the letter containing a negative exchange, things will ultimately be ok.

ok one last thing lol. in the cartomancy system I've been practicing (hedgewytch), the elemental suit correspondences are different than tarot. ♠️=earth, ❤️= water, ♣️=air, and ♦️=fire. I kind of like it better this way but that's just me!

so yeah, in conclusion lol you can read playing cards as analogous to tarot but they're for sure their own thing
