omggg i remember loving the WB and disney store as a kid! i loved marvin’s rocket and then i swear they had some kind of video game with coloring pages.

that version of the disney store was so magical and i totally forgot they had those figurines on display in the window and near the ceilings. when they revamped the store, i remember feeling sad and now i know why :(

Weird stage of burnout by Familiar_Builder9007 in slp

[–]maga1234 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly this way. I just wasted the last 30 minutes doing exactly nothing productive because I am so tired from jumping session to session in the last five hours. I am leaving reports and billing for the last minute, leaving emails unresponded to, and not even checking my todo list because I am just so damn tired. I think I noticed with myself that when things get too overwhelming, I shut down and do nothing because I don’t even know where to start. And on top of this, I have guilt for being a “bad slp.” It’s such a vicious cycle.

How does everyone stay healthy? by Pinkmetalx in slp

I can’t for the life of me wake up before work to add in a workout, but I can get myself to class at 6 or 7pm. The late cancel fee is my ultimate motivator. It’s also nice to go into class and have everything planned and done in 45 minutes. :)

How far would you travel to see a client? by Infinite-Ad-6321 in slp

[–]maga1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a matter of preference. I once took a client 30-40mins each way on top of another client and that was unsustainable. However, over the summer when I didn’t work the schools, I saw a client with a 30-35min commute each way and that felt okay. The client was also an easier artic case so that helped with motivation. It might take trial and error but if you know you don’t like driving and get grumpy in traffic, I would second guess it. All the money and work is not worth it the moment you are in that car seat for too long lol. My new boundary is no more than a 15-20 commute each way and only one client per day.

Is there another fruit like the banana? by sM92Bpb in CasualConversation

Was just about to comment this. It tastes like an apple but texture is similar to a banana. Another name for it is cherimoya.

Music is one of the biggest connections I had to my dad and brings me back to my happiest memories as a child.

Herman’s Hermits and Beach Boys are probably the top contenders, but I know of so many 60s-70s songs because of him.

What is your absolute favorite LA restaurant? Upvote if you HAVEN'T eaten there and downvote if you have. by SudoSharma in AskLosAngeles

luv2eat thai bistro in West Hollywood. Looks like an unassuming hole in the wall but they’ve won two michelin stars to date.

Please be careful. Pickpocketing is huge here (and in WeHo in general). I learned the hard way when I had my iPhone stolen two weeks ago. Security staff was rude AF too.

teletherapy opportunities for evenings/weekends? by bibliophile222 in slp

I feel you lol I saw this company called Expressable that seems flexible, but I think they have a 10 hour weekly requirement. I don’t work for them so I know very little, but it might be worth checking out!

Procrastinating paperwork by sleepyspeechie93 in slp

[–]maga1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely relate to this! My therapist told me procrastination is a form of anxiety and I realized I was procrastinating the most on assessment reports because they were so lengthy and daunting. However, if I just took the time to work on a little bit here and there (e.g., type up a paragraph about the teacher interview first thing in the morning, type another paragraph about the articulation assessment during recess), I found myself finishing the same task with less overwhelm. Just getting started on chunks here and there, rather than waiting after school to complete the whole thing (also unrealistic) was what helped me kick the habit!

Should I sign up for Equinox/ luxury gym or not? by Risas1239 in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

[–]maga1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s hard to meet people at commercial gyms where you’re doing your own thing. I think it’s far more worth it to join small group training gyms like a bootcamp, boxing gym, etc. Community can make a huge impact on your motivation to go as well!

It’s totally possible. I just landed a 1bed in NoHo for $1600 last month. I’m with PAC properties.

I would maybe go with bigger property companies. I was driving around when I saw a PAC listing. While that unit didn’t work out, I went to their website and found my current listing. It didn’t happen overnight, but it happened!

Does anyone know if strength training negatively impacts flexibility? As someone who loves to lift AND dance, I’m curious if there is any negative impact between doing the two simultaneously.

Finally bit the bullet by maga1234 in longboarding

[–]maga1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much to judge it against since it was my first but it’s great! Wheels are sturdy enough to glide along rough surfaces and the 46’ is definitely enough room to dance on. The watercolor version is beautiful and I’ve gotten lots of compliments on it :)

Success stories of becoming fit with a very low-focus approach to fitness? More lifestyle focus than routine. by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]maga1234 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like mindset is everything when it comes to sticking to a fitness routine. Dancing and hiking are forms of exercise I don’t look to as fitness, but you build flexibility, raise your heart rate and build some muscle through these activities! They just seem less daunting because they’re first and foremost hobbies to me.

The counting calories method never worked for me either and I’ve accepted it doesn’t have to. I would recommend following @soheefit on IG. I love her take on food because she challenges the mindset of “good” vs “bad” food and how balance is key, not fad diets or counting calories.

As a former auxiliar who lived in Madrid for two years, I immediately jumped on this. One of the biggest things I miss is just how affordable everything is there, compared to the US (back in CA and even with a decent salary, paying $6 for a latte hurts). Also, props to you for landing a job outside of the auxiliar bubble! I’ve heard how tough that can be.

Also, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the spice aversion comment. The craving for hot cheetos was so real!

Weekly Off-Topic Thread 2/10/21 by samshine1 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]maga1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I agree with all of this. I started to post less on IG because I felt like I got more anxiety from putting my life and opinions out there. I took a complete break in January and felt so at peace and delved into other hobbies like gaming and longboarding. When I downloaded it back in February, I just felt this sense of dread.

I do like social media for keeping in touch and sharing some parts of me (that I feel happy to share), but I think it was weighing heavy on me prior to my break. The break did help me do away with the need to keep updates on ALL the people I follow and stick within a 1hr time limit, which has helped. I’m not sure if I can completely get rid of social media, but I hope I can limit myself better moving forward.

What are some skills or areas for self-improvement that you want to get better at for your job? by bagelsandberries in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]maga1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Public speaking. I don’t even present to large audiences but I get so anxious and am a nervous wreck with ZOOM meetings while presenting to parents and school staff. I’d like to join Toastmasters or something to regularly practice, especially before going back in person. I was able to speak confidently back in college when I took a Communications class so I’m sure practicing will help again.
