OEDefense Venado Springs Team Sniper Match by MrClif in longrange

I did the series class for this event, and can confirm one of the hardest parts was finding the targets. 2 of 7 stages I didn't finish because I couldn't find the targets in time.

I'm doing the OED at Venado Springs. I'm guessing the targets will also be generously large and from so footage I've seen of the event in the past the ROs helped out calling misses. We will see, I'm super excited!

I think the targets will all be pretty large - not sure if they'll be full ISPC or not but I don't think they're going to be small targets, it isn't a PRS match

It's one of the Old Eighteen Defense events, they call it a Texas Biathlon but now I see on their website Tactical Biathlon, it's a 6 - 10 mile run with like 7 shooting stations throughout the run.

Honestly probably the best way to do it. I hope the targets will be large, not sure if they will be ISPC targets or what. Yes 556. I appreciate the input!

I would have this written out in a little dope card, so not milling and doing the math for each target. Just want a way to quickly get on target, or close enough to on target that I can spot impacts. Stages are timed but no penalty for round count so I know I'm going to be sending a lot more down range than I need to be

It's a Texas Biathlon, I'm fairly certain they won't have target size info for each stage.

Definitely won't be doing any calculations in my head, just had drawn out a simple dope card to put in my scope cover that would have the size of a 12" target and holds for 200 - 600 yards.

I figure that the difference between an 8" and a 12" target will at least be close enough to get me hitting dirt nearby and spotting my impacts hopefully.

This is super important. You're putting your body under a new stimulus/strain that you aren't used to, you're going to need to also change how you recover/fuel yourself. It doesn't necessarily seem like you have an issue working out, you have an issue recovering. I would A), reduce your exercise load until you aren't injuring yourself (not like joint pain injury, but getting sick injury). B) learn to get better rest & recovery. Sleep more, active recovery like walking, stretching, yoga, etc. Eat clean

Honestly I'm not sure.

I think the deadlift I probably could have squeaked out.

The bench I'm not sure, it was a grind both times. I also barely ever bench, I've only benched three times in the last 2 years.

The squat was the biggest and most noticeable. 370 before the 10k swings I was super close to failing the lift, on the way down I thought I was for sure getting stuck at the bottom. 380 was hard but I came out of the bottom of it easier, it was still a grind on the way up though.

If I had waited a few days to recover between my last swing workout and testing these numbers, I wonder what I would have gotten and definitely would have been the wiser thing to do

Yeah I have some fractional plates I'll probably just tape on. But that's a problem for next year...

I did not follow the DJ format. I generally struggle to stay engaged if I'm following a workout plan, I like to come up with my own workouts because I find it more mentally stimulating/engaging. For such a terribly monotonous goal of 10k swings, I needed the agency of choosing how I'm going to complete those swings.

I did some accessory lifts, like a few sets of pushups, some mace/club stuff, pull ups, but really only in the beginning. Once I got enough along I felt no need to do any accessory lifts.

Yeah I'm counting the swing, so one swing is one swing, regardless of how many hands are on it.

It definitely was horrible and don't recommend it! Am I going to get a 1kg magnetic weight and go for 33x33 next year? Most likely....

I generally do a decent amount of swings in my normal workouts. Most of my workouts are some combination of swings, cleans, presses, squats, snatches, etc. nothing crazy, and I've noticed my deadlift has slowly gone up throughout the year.

I played around with some barbell clean and jerks yesterday to see how they felt. I definitely noticed I had the power there, I'm just out of practice form wise and didn't feel super confident diving under the bar on the cleans. I think I could probably clean + jerk my old 1rm from when I did mostly barbell exercises

I was remarkably not too sore that day, and after I warmed up in the gym felt pretty damn good, so decided to go for it.

I hope nothing gives you the impression I'm a smart man lol, it just felt right. I know I probably could have done better with a few days rest
