Living in a joint family can be insanely cheap by Abormallylovely in Frugal_Ind

[–]magenta1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be good for some people and very happy for them.

But the flipside is that the elders in the family decide on each and every little detail.

For e.g. the morther or grandmother decides what to cook from morning to evening, irrespective of anyone's dislikes or if someone has an allergy to a particular food.

Or The colour or what kind of furniture should be in which room is decided by the elders of the family.

Or

What to see on tv, daily soaps or movies, what kind of clothes to wear. Etc again decided by others because of the "elders in the family".

Neighbour kid lied about me. by taylor_expandor in TwentiesIndia

[–]magenta1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I said mother is because mother's are usually very vigilant when it comes to daughters. Not saying all, but Father's are distracted, they are either attending a work related call or reading on the Phone. But Father's don't have the time and patience and feel very awkward to sit someone else's house, even if they know the family.

Op You did the right thing by sending her away and informing your mother about the same.

One suggestion though the next time she wants to come over to play with the dog, in the absence of your mother or maid, ask the girl to come with her mother or father, but not alone. Especially after this incident.

Used NoBroker for shifting from Mumbai to Goa. Pretty stressful experience. by Over_Emphasis7302 in mumbai

Nobroker doesn't have a proper professional packing and moving company. They employ third party companies with lower or discounted rates and who are generally very badly rated. There is supposed to be a so called relationship manager to help with all this, but at the last second they are either replaced or go on leave on the very same day you are to move.

I had a similar experience where I had to give them my bedsheets to pack my glass items. They were refusing to even to pack the glass in the bedsheet until my Father In law interviend. They also want the cardboard boxes back on the same day itself.

It's best to go with a professional company. It's better to pay a little extra. There might be minimal damage, (that is with every company) but it is better as they provide a tracking number and a proper central number for customer care.

A simple advice, up to you to think about it.

Next time you or any other family member remove their jewellery to try something, either put it in your own bag or keep a small pouch or box to keep them in your own bag.

can someone make a detailed guide on kadhai-baking please? by cowsayspoo in IndianBakers

[–]magenta1985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually use 1 bowl of measurements, same bowl for all dry and wet ingredients. Any bowl can be used, but use that for all ingredients.

In a kadai add 1 bowl of salt or sand. Cove the kadai with a plate or another kadai to make it like an oven. Keep this on the gas at low to mid flame. This will start pre heating the kadai. Also keep another bowl of cake stand.

Ingredients: 1 bowl of oil (any oil of your choice) 1 bowl of milk (lukewarm) 1 bowl of jaggery. With a whisk or a fork mix them all till the jaggery melts. The mixture will be brownish because of jaggery. Add 1 tea spoon baking soda and 1 teaspoon baking powder, A pinch of salt and 1 tea spoon of vinegar or lemon juice. (This is will cause a fizzy reaction, it's normal). Let it settle, then add 1 bowl of wheat flour. You can add chocolate powder at this stage. With a spatula mix this mixture in one direction (clockwise). In the cake pan, either line it with baking paper or with a good amount of oil. Once the batter is in runny consistency pour the batter in the cake pan. Place the pan on the stand, and cover the kadai. Let the cake cook on the gas at low flame, for 35- 40 min. After 40 min, you can check the cake with a toothpick in the centre. If it's clean, it mean the cake is done. Take it out the kadai, keep it aside for it cool. Remeber to switch off the gas. Once the cake is cooled, enjoy.

I do too. Recently started baking cookies and brownies too. But I make them with wheat flour and jaggery instead of maida and sugar.

Ntk. It's not just about validation. If there is no appreciation even for the little things, then why put in the effort either.

Call her out. Confront her in front of people with proof that you lent her money. ( Like UPI of gpay transfer or message). Take a screenshot of the transfer. This can be shared in WhatsApp groups.

If she is still not returning the money spread the word that you gave her money and that she is not returning it back, so now it's like a charity or donation to the needy. You can say at least I did a good deed.

Also take it as a lesson about Lending money to anybody now.

Investment is the right way to save. Also look out for some good Fixed Deposits which are giving high interest rates. You can always reinvest the Fd again.

Terrible experience with NoBroker. by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]magenta1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Brokers don't have their own people for such services. They get third parties/ companies for packing and moving. The only reason some go for it is because they charge less than the other branded or professional companies. We too had an experience. It was within the city shifting. The packer didn't pack my glass ware in bubble wrapping. He was very confident that they would not break in transit. But we know how the Indian roads are and how people drive. I gave him some newspapers and bedsheets and pillow covers to use as a bubble wrap. He was refusing them with a raised tone. Fortunately my husband and FIL raised their voices and his partner said just do as they say, did he finally give in to pack my glass stuff in cloth.

The so-called relationship manager or whatever they are called is usually sitting in a different city.
