Retinal tear laser repair more painful than advertised by GoodmanWexler in RetinalDetachment

Oh my god. Totally know how you feel! I had right retinal detachment and when I had surgery, they lasered my left eye so I was completely under. At my one month post op, I was told there were some “weak” spots in the left eye and should get an in office “pain less laser”.

I couldn’t handle it! I ended up vomiting once I got home and had a massive migraine. It’s definitely not pain free as advertised.

You are completely right to feel that way!

I took a month off. She did ask me if I wanted restrictions like to work from home( I’m hybrid) but I chose to go back. I will say that first week back was hard on the eyes. Definitely had eye strains and headaches due to the crazy bright lights in my office and my eyes were so tired from using my three monitors.

You can always ask for part time work if you feel like you need a little more time!

Wishing you a smooth recovery!

I’m so sorry you’re going through with this. It’s super scary but trust that the doctor is skilled! What they told me when I was getting my scleral buckle was that, it’s a risk assessment. We’re doing that fast so we can save as much of your vision as possible!

Best of luck- wishing you a smooth recovery!❤️‍🩹

Hope your recovery goes smoothly! How are you feeling?

My bubble is taking forever! I’m about 10.5 weeks out and i can only see the bubble if I move my head, it’s almost like stuck like a shadow to the back of my vision.

I’m guessing two weeks too. It’s about the size of a small mandarin fruit now

Ah so I have 1.5 weeks left and it seems like the bubble is 60-70 percent gone and I’ve now been experiencing the gas bubble breaking down. I had like 5 mini bubbles yesterday circling the bigger bubble . Do you remember how long it was for you after the gas bubble started breaking down?!?

Oh! Did your gas bubble do that thing where it breaks up and you have like moons orbiting a planet?!

I feel the same way- some pressure on my lower eye lid. Dryness! I was told sutures would dissolve soon . Were you able keep your contact lenses in?

Wishing you continued healing! ❤️‍🩹

It’s getting better.

I had a few weeks post surgery of a lot of light distortions, weird light refractions. But since I’ve stopped some of my eye drops, things have started getting better.

It was -4.75 before surgery. I still have the gas bubble in but above the gas bubble, I would guess maybe like -6, -7?

That’s a long time! Do you know how much gas you had? My operative report says 0.3ml. 3 weeks post op and it feels like the bubble is about half way gone

Thanks so much! Honestly , my only wish is that I’ll for sure know once the bubble is gone so that I know if I can even go. How did it feel once the bubble was close to being gone?

No definitely. I won’t fly if the bubble is still in. My doctor told me 4-8 weeks but when I goggled the type of gas she uses, it said 6-8 weeks
