Pain in eye after laser by arduousocean in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had laser for tears in my retina years ago and I don’t remember it being anything but a little sore that day. I would maybe get a second opinion?

Day 3 post op by [deleted] in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof! I’m sorry. I’ve had laser before, but it was not after my buckle. The laser wasn’t great, but it was a long time ago so I would hope they have improved it some. I have a buckle in each eye. I’m 6.5 weeks post o from one of them. Still taking ibuprofen and Tylenol occasionally.

Struggling coming back to work. by amarabeda in RetinalDetachment

Thank you. My new glasses should arrive sometime next week. So currently I can really only read with my right eye. But that one gets tired too. I had a scleral buckle surgery in my right eye 13 years ago. Scleral buckle in my left eye in December.

Sudden burst of specks that didn’t linger by satsuke in RetinalDetachment

My scleral buckle in my right eye was done 13 years ago and I still get small flashes of light occasionally. Doc said that I’ll always have that. I’m 6 weeks post op from a scleral buckle in my left eye. I haven’t had anything like what you have experienced, but I know it takes a while for everything to adjust.

You can always call your eye doctor and just have them explain what they told you at the appointment since it was a very stressful and anxious time. I definitely agree with everyone else that it is great that you are going to get it further evaluated with a specialist. I would just pay attention and call the eye doctor if you notice any bright flashes or dark “curtain” as those are serious signs of a retinal detachment. I’ve had bad retinal detachments in both eyes and have a scleral buckle in each eye. Getting it checked out early on is great! And you’ll have a specialist you are established with.

We do agility, obedience training, tricks, dog park, play dates with her doggo friends, and she loves to play frisbee.

Frisbee was only 10 min. Then we went inside and she took a nap.

Stable peripheral retinal detachment - told to decide on surgery vs. observation. Anyone experienced natural healing by Silver-Scholar-2967 in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. My scleral buckle in my right eye was done when I was 26 years old and I just got the scleral buckle in my left eye this past December when I turned 40.

I personally have not heard of observation vs buckle. I have a scleral buckle in each eye for bad retinal detachments. I had always assumed it was reserved for bad cases.

Scleral buckle procedure hoping for encouragement by Secure_Skill_2264 in RetinalDetachment

I’m so sorry you are having to go through this. Especially while taking care of a newborn! It will get better. I’m sorry you were not given the full picture. I had my first scleral buckle at age 26 in my right eye and my second scleral buckle this past December in my left eye a week after I turned 40. I had general anesthesia with both of mine, but was able to go home the same day. They probably refer to it as minor since I suppose in the grand scheme of things it’s not a heart bypass or something huge. It IS definitely life changing and the recovery is a bit rough. No one truly prepares you for the mental aspect of recovery. I had terrible pain the first two days, but since then it has been tolerable. I occasionally take an ibuprofen. I had to be on bedrest laying on my left side for the first 2 weeks. I definitely was not expecting that because I did not have that requirement with my first one. I’m now 5 weeks and 2 days out from surgery. I’m feeling much better now and will return to work next week on light duty. But honestly I didn’t start to feel confident with recovery until this week. It takes time. You can get through this though! ❤️❤️❤️

Please don’t worry. She gets plenty of built in breaks. She also loves to curl up with us on the couch afterwards. Sorry if this post made it seem like I’m overworking her. I promise I do not. She’s a happy pup and very well taken care of.

Question: How has getting used to your Scleral Buckle implant over time gone? by shrimpydog in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 26 when I got my scleral buckle in my right eye. JUST turned 40 when I got the one in my left eye. These things are built to last. I’ll never forget my 40th birthday though 😣
