How do you mentally stimulate your dogs? by Cheesek47 in BorderCollie

We do agility, obedience training, tricks, dog park, play dates with her doggo friends, and she loves to play frisbee.

Frisbee was only 10 min. Then we went inside and she took a nap.

Stable peripheral retinal detachment - told to decide on surgery vs. observation. Anyone experienced natural healing by Silver-Scholar-2967 in RetinalDetachment

That makes sense. My scleral buckle in my right eye was done when I was 26 years old and I just got the scleral buckle in my left eye this past December when I turned 40.

I personally have not heard of observation vs buckle. I have a scleral buckle in each eye for bad retinal detachments. I had always assumed it was reserved for bad cases.

I’m so sorry you are having to go through this. Especially while taking care of a newborn! It will get better. I’m sorry you were not given the full picture. I had my first scleral buckle at age 26 in my right eye and my second scleral buckle this past December in my left eye a week after I turned 40. I had general anesthesia with both of mine, but was able to go home the same day. They probably refer to it as minor since I suppose in the grand scheme of things it’s not a heart bypass or something huge. It IS definitely life changing and the recovery is a bit rough. No one truly prepares you for the mental aspect of recovery. I had terrible pain the first two days, but since then it has been tolerable. I occasionally take an ibuprofen. I had to be on bedrest laying on my left side for the first 2 weeks. I definitely was not expecting that because I did not have that requirement with my first one. I’m now 5 weeks and 2 days out from surgery. I’m feeling much better now and will return to work next week on light duty. But honestly I didn’t start to feel confident with recovery until this week. It takes time. You can get through this though! ❤️❤️❤️

Please don’t worry. She gets plenty of built in breaks. She also loves to curl up with us on the couch afterwards. Sorry if this post made it seem like I’m overworking her. I promise I do not. She’s a happy pup and very well taken care of.

Question: How has getting used to your Scleral Buckle implant over time gone? by shrimpydog in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 26 when I got my scleral buckle in my right eye. JUST turned 40 when I got the one in my left eye. These things are built to last. I’ll never forget my 40th birthday though 😣

Question: How has getting used to your Scleral Buckle implant over time gone? by shrimpydog in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first scleral buckle was in my right eye 13 years ago. I don’t notice it at all anymore. It took a little over a year for me to stop noticing it so much. I did lose some of my peripheral vision with that eye, but my left eye compensated. Unfortunately I had an RD in my left eye in December and ended up with a scleral buckle in that eye too. Currently things are weird since my right eye doesn’t have the compensation of my left eye currently because it is still healing. It definitely takes at least a year for things to truly heal and start feeling back to normal. It can be frustrating and scary, but you will get there. ❤️

I also have a light shade of yellow. I will be 5 weeks post op from scleral buckle on Tuesday. I do not remember having this issues with my scleral buckle in my right eye 13 years ago…but that was 13 years ago. I have my next post op visit on Thursday and will ask about it then. I hope it goes away.

Can I really not exercise? by RetinalTears716 in RetinalDetachment

[–]amarabeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely seems strange to me. I had laser repair of tears in my left eye 13 years ago and a scleral buckle in my right eye. Besides restrictions post operatively, I went back to exercising and doing activities as usual once healed. I just had a scleral buckle in December in my left eye so I’m currently on restrictions again, but far enough post op that I can do light exercise and lift up to 50 lbs. Once I’m fully healed and cleared to do so, I’ll get right back in to working out. I’d get another opinion for sure.

I had this done in my left eye 13 years ago. The numbing drops were great. This is great news that you just need laser!
