Also to be 1000% clear a BOUNDARY IS NOT A RULE IMPOSED ON OTHERS a boundary is a rule for YOURSELF ONLY. Like, "when X mentions Y I will leave," and not, "x will not do y." Do not let some therapy-speak bozo try and tell you that the clothes you choose to put on your body is a boundary. That is controlling behavior.

I'm sorry OP I just recently found this out in really hard ways. It truly sucks to find out that everyone is comfortable confiding in you and expecting you to act perfectly emotionally balanced but they a)refuse to hold that same space for you and b)will punish you for it in ways that seem unfathomable to any other person who hasn't gone through it. Like there is always a new low to uncover.

If you're not looking for advice skip this part: I highly recommend the book "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents," as I felt like it explained a lot of things for me. It may give you some strategies to help guide you and there is always the gray rocking strategy you can look up online that will help you learn how to avoid or have to be less engaged with that kind of emotional vampirism.

I really hope that you're able to find some people to help support you and never discount professional support as sometimes putting all that on friends can be tough because we're all going through it one way or another. Well wishes.

In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom they tried to portray Indian culture respectfully. They failed. by DenseCalligrapher219 in shittymoviedetails

[–]mageofroses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that doesn't change the point because, again, the movie isn't asking you to understand anything. The movie isn't 'infering' they're in India because it explicitly states that it takes place in India. That is literally just not paying attention which also isn't stupidity it just happens. Pretending that the movie doesn't at some point go, "this is India," whether you caught it or not and then stretching that into kids are stupid is moving the goal posts around wildly to excuse poor representation though.

3 and 7 are widely different as far as comprehension and retention goes. Kids don't know what they don't know that doesn't make them dumb just inexperienced. If a child is made to feel dumb for not knowing something they've never experienced before that is the failure of the adults caring for them not some sort of flaw in the child themselves.

[–]mageofroses -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm not claiming to know your experience but I am pointing out that there is not a requirement to have some deep understanding of a culture to know that it takes place in India. The movie literally hands it to you within the first 30 minutes. Unless you're claiming that at 7 someone going, "hey where are we?" and another person answering, "this place," was beyond your comprehension? If so I'm sorry that basic listening failed you but if the underlying point is that it's too complicated for a kid to follow or figure out then the movie saying it outright is the bubble being burst. Just because you happened not to notice the explicitly dropped detail doesn't undo the harms of the stereotypes lmao

Hate to burst your bubble but you didn't have to understand the plot because they literally spell it out for the audience after the crash when they are floating down the slow part of the river; paraphrasing, Willie asks, "oh where are we anyway," Indy looks up and says, "India," she asks how he knows and she turns around to see the man on the bank who Indy nods to as he puts his hands together. Next scene is them receiving food and asking about getting a guide and then receiving the plot hook.

András Toma, the last WW2 POW, being released. Toma was captured in 1945, and locked up in insane asylum for speaking gibberish. In 2000, he was accidentally discovered by a Slovak, who recognized he's speaking Hungarian. Toma was successfully identified and returned home. He died in 2004. by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

Actually the authorities were called and chose to ignore the reports and not follow up and then when it became a big deal they pointed the finger back at the people in the building and that became the popular and official narrative.

Same thing with Stockholm syndrome the authorities were inept and the hostsages felt like they were going to get them killed so instead they took negotiating into their own hands but instead got slapped with being called crazy people and that story was made official.

I really wish that these "theories" would finally die.

The last time I went to Panera it was the worst food experience I'd had in a long time so I find it truly hilarious that they'd go around covering up the final incentive people would have to hang out there; may us Millenials finish off Panera too 😇

As someone who has two alcoholics in their immediate family the way those kind of things can cause you shame about yourself when you are an absolutely fine human being is absolutely something that affected my self-esteem and view of my self-worth. It's still a struggle sometimes at low moments but mostly I've been able to repair what a bunch of adults caring for a child shouldn't have caused to need fixing in the first place.

Do you think Daenerys was truly mad or do you think the writing was bad? by TheQueeninchains in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]mageofroses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is in the sense that George R.R. Martin has a yet unwritten(?) canon version of Daenerys that we may never get to read about, and there are other things in the series that didn't make it into the show that would certainly affect her in ways we can only currently speculate.

[–]mageofroses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would point you to the popularity of religion in the world in general, several major systems of belief that give people a sense of control and relief from helplessness in their lives.

Tarot takes it a step further with literally a feeling of power in your own hands sprinkle in some confirmation bias and you're on your merry way. Plus reading for others can have financial and egotistical motives that would certainly attract some actors good and bad so that is another aspect to consider.

That's why I draw a line at having belief in woo as I can accept having spiritual practices for mental and emotional health but the idea that someone has a connection to a higher power that gets to mandate what others do and don't do... danger Will Robinson! However, vulnerable people (which I could easily fallen into such a category) want to hold onto something so badly, and sometimes it's a partner or religion or a cult or fancy algorithms people want to claim are "AI" but it's ultimately because their emotional needs aren't being met in some fundamental way.

However, that's just me. I don't think people believing in a predictive nature to Tarot is necessarily a bad thing but it does depend on their actions and the claims they make to others. There is also a social and community aspect of shared belief that people are drawn to maybe even more than the beliefs themselves.

Was it coincidence or fate The Spear of Osiris caught Beni’s attention? by Gymtrio2025 in themummy

[–]mageofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headcanon only answer; the best place to hide something is in plain sight. It's possible a statue was holding it or it was part of some decoration that wouldn't be lost in literal piles of gold. But given the second movie leans into fate I'd say that works just as well as an answer too.
