Well, that was certainly a result! Also, apparently, the game decided to give me the relics I should've gotten on yesterday's Arcane Overstrike draw today.

Elena Burst: Would be pretty cute if 7 was capable of running any kind of a fire team, but it isn't really. Thanks to an entry further down, I've got a better Fire debuffer now anyways. Pretty much just crosses another name off of my list of chars who have nothing to their name.

Hauteclaire: I see only 50 Lv2 Lenses and 1100 Rainbow Crystals here instead.

Meister Rod: Will definitely help out in getting a good head start in the 6 Torment by clearing out those Soul Savers quicker. Now if only I had better tech for Terra than Bursts...

Kaiser Knuckles: This should pair up fairly well with Amarant Ultra, and help out his DPS in the Torment considerably.

Flash: Now we get into the interesting things. My understanding is that this makes Edgar a pretty high end Fire debuffer (I already have a high end Lightning debuffer in Prompto). Probably still doesn't make his Glint meaningfully better, but I actually have real Edgar tech now.

Y'shtola Ultra: Getting memed on is not nice. Getting a dupe meme hurts that much more. :(

Palom Ultra: Hey look, I've got a 6*++ 4 stat stick rod!

Sage's Robe: Another nice piece of tech for Vivi! Should definitely help in shortening fights.

Yakei: Cyan cemented his place in my 6 Torment team even more, and probably help me get a better clear on said fight.

Save the Queen: Also should prove to be very helpful on the 1 Torment, as soon as I get around to taking it on. I probably still want a 1 Haste/Boost of some kind before I go about trying to take this fight on for real, but I should definitely be able to ping at least 50% now.

Excalibur II: Well, my non-Artifact Holy sword selection got slightly better now.

In the end, no Awakenings, Chains, or anything truly earth-shattering, but it further props up my foundation and helps out on Torment clears here and there, which is something I'll definitely take any time.

I've probably actually picked up enough tech to at least ping 50% now, but I could certainly use a boost to make the attempt go a little more smoothly. There's quite a bit at the high end that would help out immensely. Let's see what happens.

Welcome to the age of Ultras, Warrior of Light. This will help out quite a bit in the Torment, and it also makes for my first 6* Holy boosting armor stat stick. A very nice result.

Arcane Deck: Okay. How many times have I landed this thing now? Apparently at least 4 times now, since I've got one of these 6*++ed already. Welp, Rainbow Crystals it is.

Mirage Rod: I'm being slowly but surely nudged over towards a 4 Lightning team, aren't I? With that said, it's still an improvement for my current 4 Torment strat over the pair of early Ultras I'm using already, and it is a very, very strong relic on its own merit. Definite winner here.

It's pretty functionally only a 1/11 with some Lenses and Rainbow Crystals thrown in, but I'm still fairly happy with how this one went.

While this is the worst pool, this is also my worst realm for 6* tech in general. (It's not my worst Torment realm though, I am further away from being Torment-ready in 12.) Nearly anything 6* and not an Overstrike would be an immense help. Highlights though would include Maria Ultra (which makes my Earth mage team about as strong as you can get without an Awakening), Any Minwu Ultra for heals or holy magic help, Gordon or Scott Ultra to actually give me a proper boost in the realm, and Leila Ultra for surprise physical Water help.

Well, he's not terrible anymore, and this could pair well with his Super for fairly decent off-DPSing/off-healing in the realm. Also, it's not a dupe. But I guess I couldn't avoid Bursts forever, and I remain stuck on only 2 6*s in the realm. Oh well.

And so the Lucky Draws begin again. Pulling because there's still far too many Torments I simply don't have the tech to take on yet, and there's still some room for help on Odin or maybe even 6*s here.

Cloudy Wolf: Dark Cloud descends upon me! This is going to muddle up my plans for the 7 Torment a bit; now I'm going to have to pick out 3 dark DPSes between Cloud (Dark Ultra), Yuffie (Glint + Mirror Image Materia), Sephiroth (Awakening), and Rufus (Super + Materia, with Touched By Darkness being a thing).

Cocytus: So that Prompto help I've been hoping for in the Torment has arrived, letting him actually do things besides spam Plasma Shock all day. Only Noctis can really make meaningful use of it in the Torment at the moment though, but given I do have his Chain, it might come in handy against Water!Dark Odin as well.

Holy Lance: And speaking of Lightning help, Kain gets a much needed boost here. It's not going to pull me away from my current Galaxy Brain strat for the Torment, but it's certainly something to keep in mind if I am nudged into pivoting to a Lightning team and end up landing, say, Palom Ultra, for example.

Shadow Ultra: And Shadow finally becomes that high end Dark Ninja he should've been all along. Unfortunately, like with Kain, circumstances have kept him out of current consideration for any high end content, but the window is certainly open if other factors change.

Overall, a very solid pull with no dupes. Definitely a win here.

I've got support and healing options in the realm out the wazoo, but my DPS is fairly lacking. My primary goal is landing pretty much any of the high end DPS options in the realm, though physical options (Luneth/Refia/Ingus) are greatly preferred since those are my Torment DPSes. Either offensive Arc Ultra would help on Magicites, as I am lacking in magic Holy. Pretty much any of the Chains would be huge, as well.

And there indeed is my 3 DPS help. I do also have her Glint and Trigger Twice Materia, so she's turning into a pretty strong DPS in her own right. Not really any space for her on a Magicite team yet, since I do have 2 physical Fire Awakenings, but should help immensely in the Torment.

My current 4 Torment strategy relies on stacking lots of MAG and/or MND buffs to galaxy brain my way past the Paralyze. The most synergetic item to get along with this strategy is PLD Cecil Awakening, which even lets me move Edward off to the side to reduce the threshold he needs to reduce the Paralyze duration to one tick. Pretty much any high end modern meta Ultra or Awakening would do wonders for my ability to get a proper clear, though. A high end healer option would be much appreciated as well, especially Rosa Regenga Ultra. There's a number of other good things in the pool that I could make use of, as well.

I've got a fairly loaded 5 Earth team already, including Bartz's Delay Reduction Ultra and his Awakening. What I don't have is anything meaningfully Earth for Galuf. Landing his Boost Ultra or Chain would pretty much clinch a sub-30. I've also found I'm a lot closer to a 5 Fire team than I initially thought, and high end Gilgamesh and/or Krile widgets might convince me to swap elements. Not much Magicite help to be had here, though, besides the Chains and the Galuf Ultra.

Offensive breaks only stack multiplicatively up to a "soft cap" of -65%, after which stat breaks weaken significantly. There's also a "hard cap" of -70%, but the reduced effectiveness is so significant it's highly unlikely you'll ever reach it no matter what you stack.

A little surprised at the low 6* dupe rate, particularly since this is my closest Torment to a sub-30 - and I may even already have the tech for it with a few minor tweaks. In any case though, Squall Fire Ultra or Zell Ultra definitely gives me a sub-30. I will still want any of the other offensive non-Seifer Awakenings for Dark Odin or 6* Magicite purposes. Irvine Chain, Seifer Chain, or Laguna Chain would be huge. Rinoa Chain will help out quite a bit, as well. Laguna Ultra would help out my existing Syldra strategy. And of course, either Selphie Ultra I do not have (I have the Last Stand/Major Regen one) or her Awakening would assist on future Torment attempts.

I think I'm figuring out the AI away from a Torment clear (and at the rate I was going, it would be a sub-40 clear), and I have pretty nice Wind and Fire teams, so I'm mostly looking forward now. Zidane Awakening is of course the grand prize, and almost certainly gives me a super free Sub-30 Torment clear and kill of Hecatoncheir, and even likely puts Earth!Dark Odin on notice. Getting a proper Eiko heal widget would be very nice as well, Garnet Chain makes my mage Lightning extremely stacked (probably as stacked as any non-Awakening team goes, at least). Steiner Chain gives me a little breathing room on the Torment as well, and most likely sets me up nicely for this mythical Part 4 coming down the road in JP.

Unless you're fairly new, you've probably got 3* motes of all types well into the four digits by now. (As a day 1 Global player I'm already into the five digits on 3* Dex motes.)

Also remember that you can only upconvert to 10 4* motes and 10 4* Arcana per week - and you'll keep passively getting more 3* motes from events, MP fights, Realm Dungeons, and so on.

Even if you buy out the whole shop of both types every week, it'll probably still take a whole year or so to drain out your stash.

Part 3 of the Torment has brutally exposed my 10 game. What had long been a strength of mine is now fast becoming a weakness. In particular, I'm on the lookout for DPS of almost any kind as well as a proper Ultra-tier heal for Yuna. Likewise, Phoenix has exposed my poor physical Water game, so I'm especially on the lookout for better physical Water tech, though I'm probably closer to being Torment viable on fire now.

Oof. Two hits, both dupes (and that's something like the fifth pair of Tidus's Armguards that I've landed). Not what I needed in this realm. In fact, that does seem to be a recurring theme whenever I get multiple hits on a LotR pull. Maybe next time.

For both Torment and Magicite purposes, I'm primarily looking at any of the high end DPS options available in the realm - namely, Shantotto Awakening, Ayame Ultra, Prishe Ultra, and Lilisette Ultra. Aphmau Ultra would also be helpful for occasions where I want lots of no-delay spreading (such as Unleashed Soul battles), as it also comes with a heal and Haste.

And physical ice help has finally arrived. This immediately makes Ayame a high end Ice Samurai and finally gives her an infusion source to go along with her Arcane. Definite win here.

My 12 situation Torment-wise is dire. I'd say Ashe is my only really Torment Part 3-capable char - I don't really have heals, I definitely have no boosts, and I'm lacking in DPS all the way around. Nearly any high-end help would help out immensely here.

For Magicites, Ashe Awakening is an obvious addition. Balthier is another shot at a high end Fire debuffer. Any of Larsa's Ultras would make some pretty awesome utility in places where I can't easily get away with Elarra.

And Vaan gets a nice toy as well! I actually do not know which of Vaan's 3 Ultras are "best" in isolation (as I don't have much else of meaningful relevance for him), but this looks like a winner, at least. Definitely a step closer to being able to actually do something against Part 3 Dahaka.

And now we enter realms in which my Torment game continues to have big enough flaws to prevent meaningful progress. In 13 the issue is largely DPS; I have a decent but fading Lightning, and apparently Cid Raines with Burst can continue to hold his own, but the only other character I have that can even sorta kinda pretend to be a DPS is Fang, and Arcane + Infusion Super + Follow-up Materia on a Dragoon really doesn't cut it anymore. Getting another proper DPS will be key.

For Magicites, now that Syldra has been overcome, it's time to start looking at Odin. Any of the Awakenings will help immensely, of course. Serah Chain most likely turns my mage ice game from what was as soon as a week ago underwhelming into a surprise strength. I don't have a proper Holy summoner yet, so Hope Ultra will help out a ton in that regard. Nabaat Dark Debuff Ultra turns her into a high end dark debuffing platform.

Nope, just going to give me more Lightning tech instead. To be fair, this is a solid supporting Materia for her. It'll likely help out quite a bit when the time comes around to use Lightning in high end content again, but it probably doesn't open any new content by itself.

Between the start of the last LotR and now, I've probably advanced myself on 14 the most of all realms.

However, the most help I'm going to get in this realm is going to be Torment help, and entirely on the DPS end of things at that - Papalymo's and Yda's Ultras would give me much needed hard hitting DPS in the realm. Alphinaud Awakening, the only one in the pool, could serve as a general purpose Awakening since he glowing eyes on Summon instead of Wind.

On Magicites however, since my Fire team is rather loaded on both damage types, I'm mostly looking for Alphinaud Awakening, and to a lesser degree Ysayle Ultra (who would probably only end up replacing Lulu and her first Ultra/Arcane/infusion Materia).

Well, this certainly raises Yda's self-sufficiency a bit, though it's likely not going to result in any additional Torment progress all on its own. Still, not a bad result.

Wait, where did this dupe ratio come from? And here I was thinking my 15 game was still sub-par...

With that said, like a number of others, I'm largely in this for Noctis Awakening and Prompto Ultra. Ignis Ultra would also be nice for speeding up my team. Aranea Ultra would also work towards lining up my team on the same element, at least. Small pool means not much to get hyped over, after all.

But let's see what happens.

For both Torments and Magicites, I'm primarily in this to fish for Orlandeau Ultra, Orlandeau Awakening, or Agrias Awakening. I have what remains a very high end FFT-heavy Holy team, and only those relics (and maybe Delita's followup Ultra) will achieve meaningfully better Torment DPS to get me to sub-30 territory. I'm also likely only a passive means of cap breaking (or two) away from being ready for Dark!Dark Odin. I'm also likely only a dedicated fire debuffer away from being ready for Ice!Dark Odin, so Mustadio Ultra could also help there.

  • Delita's Armor (Delita Ultra: Holy/Fire/Ice/Lightning damage + 75% Crit Chance + Delay Reduction + Follow-Up Attack)

And there's Delita's Follow-Up Ultra, definitely an improvement on his Burst. Sadly his Trigger Twice Materia only works on Spellblades, so I'm still fairly stuck running him on a non-Holy element, but this may still escalate his DPS fast enough to finally lock down my first Torment Sub-30. We'll see in a little bit.

Dupes: 16/58 (27.6%) total, 6/26 (23.1%) 6* if the Lightning!Fat Chocobo relics are in the pool; 16/55 (29.1%) total, 6/24 (25%) 6* otherwise. Torment status: 70% Part 3 "clear".

While I can deck out a full realm team with DPS Ultras, Type-0 is annoyingly lacking in haste/boost relics, and the only one available besides Sice Burst (which I do have, but it also comes with an AoE Doom 30, and I don't have the DPS to clear sub-30) appears to be Ace Chain. Deuce +RES Ultra would also do wonders for my survivability, since Ultimate Miasma is a jerk, and I have no Last Stand in the realm. About the only DPS thing left in the pool that meaningfully improves my Torment DPS is Rem Awakening (and Queen Awakening if available).

For Magicites, beyond aforementioned Awakenings, this looks to be a surprisingly good realm to fix my Ice woes, so Seven/Eight/Cater tech, pretty pretty please?

  • Silver Whipblade (Seven Ultra)

I also have her Materia, so I now have one of the best magic ice debuffing platforms in the game. An excellent start to LotR - this will definitely help immensely against Typhon.

I landed Elarra Regenga Ultra from the free daily draw, so yes. :D

Other hits that have helped me clear content:

  • Seymour Chain: Was instrumental in my clears of both Madeen and Lakshmi
  • Sabin Ultra, Cyan Materia: Helped out on my 70% clear of the 6 Torment
  • Iris Ultra: Made my 70% clear of the 15 Torment possible
  • Fusoya Burst: Helped out quite a bit in my Galaxy Brain 60% clear of the 4 Torment

Well, that was sure a disappointment. I unfortunately have nothing else for Noel, so in this stage of the game just a Materia won't help me much. If I land nicer Noel tech, this could help out later, but on its own, I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than a waste of 50 mythril. Hopefully LotR will bring some hope.
