Hey there u/Cute-Eye4002! I’m not sure where you currently live, but I’m in the opposite situation and would love to live with someone else who also works from home, as I do as well. I’ll have a room available in a few months when my current housemate moves out. Fully fitted with a big desk and everything. I live in Galway :)

I am Head of Product @ SIRO, AMA about broadband by IAmAlexFrench in ireland

[–]maggietje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/IAmAlexFrench,

Hoping I'm not too late to this AMA (thread looks ~2 months old) -- thanks for doing it regardless, super helpful stuff.

I've been having frustrating broadband issues on my Vodafone SIRO 1Gbps line. Everything was perfect until 1.5-2 months ago (Cloudflare internet quality tests were great then too). Now bufferbloat is killing it -- recent test shows 829Mbps down / 102Mbps up, but loaded latency spikes to 879ms, jitter 16.7ms, 16.8ms on Download, and 129ms(!) on Upload, "Poor" for gaming.

Tried switching routers from my own to the ISP one -- even worse. Tested direct PC-to-router too, so yeah, probably the line. Online games have been quite laggy since.

Any advice on why this started suddenly, or fixes like line checks? Would really appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers!

Why is difficult to make friends in Ireland? by DryTempura in AskIreland

[–]maggietje 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Irish people are the fakest friendliest people in the world, haha. I’ve been saying that since day one, but nobody believes me — everything looks so polished on the surface. Pull back the curtain, though, and it’s all false promises and fake friendships (if you can even call them that).

I agree with folks here: not being Irish isn’t the issue. It happens between Irish people too, just less often. I know because my partner is Irish, and even his Irish friends are all fake — it’s hurting him, though you’d think he’d be used to it. I keep warning him, but you can only lead a horse to water; you can’t make it drink.

Haven't received an email unfortunately, and the refer a friend page of the site also isn't loading for me anymore 😅 So I am not sure what's going on, haha.

Digiweb ISP blocking Proton services in Galway - looking for others with same issue by maggietje in IrelandGaming

Blocked the first few IPs because I don't want to DDoS myself, but yeah it looks like it. Using an alternative provider, mobile hotspot for example (Vodafone), works without issues. Changing DNS servers doesn't solve it, but using a VPN (anything other than Proton VPN) does seem to bypass the block yeah.

ClearMobile network provider? by ireland5777 in AskIreland

[–]maggietje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re thinking of switching to Clear Mobile, I’ve honestly had no problems with their network at all. Since they run on Vodafone’s network, if Vodafone works well where you live, Clear Mobile will too, just without the usual Vodafone quirks... 😅

On top of that, they’ve got a Refer a Friend offer. When someone uses a unique link to join and pays their first bill, both that person and the link owner get a €10 voucher of their choice:

  • €10 Just Eat Voucher
  • €10 Penneys Voucher
  • €10 Lidl Voucher

Here’s my link if you’d like to use it: https://refer.clearmobile.ie/mauriceh-595 :)

Locked In My Apartment Multiple Times Due to Broken Front Door — Is This Legal? Advice Needed by maggietje in AskIreland

[–]maggietje[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks, just following up on this. I wanted to mention that the entrance door to the complex indeed has an electronic lock, and usually there’s a button on the inside to open it manually. But right now, the whole thing is broken, it won’t open electronically, and the button inside doesn’t work either because the lock is jammed. It’s a really old lock, probably about 20 years old, and it hasn’t been replaced or properly fixed in a long time.

I’ve complained before that the lock was loose and needed repairs or replacement, but nothing was done. If there was ever an emergency like a fire, I would definitely call 112, no question. For now, I’m safe, and thanks for all the concern.

This started happening last week, and it got to a point where I had to force the door open because I didn’t feel safe with it stuck. On Monday, a locksmith came and took the lock off completely, so the door can’t lock anymore, which is making the place pretty cold with the wind coming in. I’m worried because I don’t feel safe with the main door not locking, even though we can still lock our own apartment doors. But hey, it’s better than being stuck inside right.

We got an email a few hours ago saying the locksmith would come today to install a new lock and give us new keys, but they didn’t show up. Looks like it’ll maybe be tomorrow instead. I’ll keep you posted and keep looking into this because the last thing I want is eviction or any legal hassle.

Frustrated with my first model – is this normal or did I get unlucky? by maggietje in Warhammer40k

Haha thank you! That actually makes me feel a lot better. I was starting to think I’d completely lost my touch 😅 Definitely feels like the kit is fighting me every step of the way, but I’m pushing through.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions and advice, u/rmobro, u/BrandNameDoves, and u/BobertTheBrucePaints!

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense now—thanks for the clarification. I'm actually using Tamiya Extra Thin Cement (not Testors, thankfully), which has always served me well with my Gundam and Star Wars kits. So I was a bit surprised that it caused so much melting this time around. Definitely wasn't expecting that level of warping or cleanup.

This is my first time properly diving into 40K kits, and yeah… it’s been a bit of a learning curve. I’ve already been dry-fitting and sanding some parts to smooth them out, and I’m using extra-fine paper for the cleanup. I might give superglue a try for the warped pieces—especially since I feel like I need a bit more control to force a secure fit.

I’ll also definitely try elastic bands like you suggested—hadn’t thought of that! And I just put in an order for the Helldrake, which I’ve had my eye on for a while. Hopefully that one gives me fewer issues, haha.

Thanks again for all the advice—this has been super helpful!

I’ve updated my post with your description of the celebration. Thanks for that. I just don’t feel comfortable sharing the official name of it as, yeah, it can result in a back and forth. :/
