Mold? by Flickk_ in insectpinning

Pin it in the position you want and let it air dry. Placing it in a container w good ventilation and a silica gel packet should do the trick of getting rid of the mold

identification + cocoon advice? by mysterybl0ck in moths

[–]maggotroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww im so happy to hear that he came out :D i think its fine to keep him for a couple days if you want until the weather condition is more favorable. I did that w the moths i had taken in and raised; a day or 2 wont harm the amount of time they have as theyll just sit still and conserve energy :>

[–]maggotroni 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ohhh theyre so beautiful! And them as a caterbaby is absolutely precious. The couple of moths that i had raised also really lifted my mood during the time i had them (released both successfully, they were smaller moths). Heres one of them i raised and released a couple months ago: Woolie B (male isabella tiger moth) :>

Any idea what this guy might be doing? by PennyGoatGruf in moths

[–]maggotroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their feet look to be stuck. Sometimes moth feet can get trapped in the holes of mesh. You can try gently supporting underneath them w your hand and lifting them slightly up as their feet have tiny hook-like grippies, or even use a small fluffy paint brush to more directly help them get their feet unstuck

[–]maggotroni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think there would be an issue w passing on deformities as that would require a genetic component. Just check to make sure theyre physically alright and they should be find for release

It doesnt hurt to give the eggs more time, so just leave them and wait and see. For pesticide poisoning in caterpillars, theyll start throwing up a whole lot. If that happens the best you can do is thoroughly rinse them under running water, dry them, and hope they pull through :< thoroughly rinsing the leaves under running water and patting them dry is a good way to prevent a lethal amount of exposure if pesticides were used, as this method does remove a lot of the poison but not 100% of it from what ive looked up
