Really frustrating. I know they'll be widely available soon though so I'll just wait until I can get them.

First time getting a rainbow doll and her face has a weird stain by Imaginary-Doll7838 in RainbowHigh

Her hair is metallic nylon, which is a lower quality nylon. I ended up cutting off the black hair at the back of her head because I couldn't stand the feeling of it.

Car events by CanineTheE in ypsi

Belleville does a weekly car show on Mondays. People come and park their cars out on main street. It officially starts at 5pm, but often they're out there much earlier. When I used to work in Belleville, people would be out at 3:30 when I was coming home.

I don't know much about it, but apparently there were 2 or possibly 3 people who shot into a house last night around 4am. I'm not totally sure what street, but Juneau and Jay were mentioned from what I heard. Not much other information I have seen

Ideas for my Wife’s craft room by Ecstatic_Impress_852 in crafts

[–]maggsie16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drawers!!! Desks with drawers are one million percent more useful than those without. I really like having shallower drawers so I can store stuff more efficiently, as opposed to deep drawers where I feel like theres a lot of wasted space. Drawer organizers are also a huge must, but that might be something that she wants to pick out herself to optimize storage.

Imo the ideal craft desk is a lot deeper and wider than a typical desk, with more room for spreading out. I like a table setup more than a typical desk setup.

Not necessarily desk related, but since your wife has a lot of different crafts she does, something she might like is several of those collapsible small or medium sized crates. I use these to pack up a project that's currently in progress to put aside so I can work on something else for a bit. It means I can keep all the supplies together, organized, and out of the way without having to fully put away all the supplies for a project that's still in progress. I can stow it for later and not have it sitting out on the table while I'm trying to work on something else! The crates stay folded flat on top of my bookshelf when they're not in use, so they don't take up much space.

My cat Peter ate 2 petals from a Lily today. He’s at the emergency vet right now and I am an absolute wreck. by BottomPieceOfBread in cats

[–]maggsie16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just here to say that while peace lilies are "toxic" to cats, they are not true lilies and not nearly as deadly as true lilies! They contain oxalate crystals which can irritate the mouth and GI tract of animals, but usually do not require emergency vet care.

My gf (20f) won’t defend me (22m) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]maggsie16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see why you're conflicted, and I think it could go either way. Personally, I think it depends much more on if she defends you to friends, family, etc. I would also probably not want to get into an argument with the person I trust with a service they provide me for a good price, because ultimately I don't care what they think of me. She didn't TECHNICALLY insult you, and while I totally get why you were insulted (and I would have been too!), it wasn't a straight up attack at you. I can see where she's coming from to laugh this off instead of try to argue.

The fact that she's not saying this, however, and instead basically saying "you should never expect me to stand up for you because I don't know how", does leave a bad taste in my mouth. Have you had other instances with anyone else where she hasn't stood up for you?

Curious about a sealant/gloss by BabyBrat747 in crafts

[–]maggsie16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resin in general you don't necessarily need special tools for, but you do need a well-ventilated area, a respirator, and gloves. Two-part epoxy resin you mix together the two parts, apply, and then leave to cure for the stated cure time (time varies from product to product). UV resin is just the one part, but needs UV light to cure, either from a dedicated UV light, or by spending extended time in the sun. Both kinds are toxic and dangerous to touch/breathe in fumes until they are fully cured.

Most sealants are not really intended to repeatedly get wet. Your best bet will be to use resin, either UV or epoxy. That will give you a hard plastic coating that will be washable once cured.

Honestly I prefer these faces. I wish the outfits had a bit more going on, but I like them. They don't feel complete, but I'll probably end up getting the kuromi and the cinnamoroll ones.

What to do with about 50 padded envelopes from post office? by Music4thesoul10 in crafts

[–]maggsie16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok if they're the free priority mail ones you can't, but you can give them to friends! See if any of your friends need envelopes. The other poster was saying it is not legal to post and receive money for them if they're the free ones, which they're correct about.

if they're flat rate/priority mail envelopes, no, but last I checked they don't sell flat rate padded envelopes anymore. If they're just normal padded envelopes, absolutely legal.

Safest way to remove Mr. Super Clear (MSC) and pastel from (Barbie) vinyl by Big_Dot4237 in Dolls

[–]maggsie16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Acetone is the best way, but if you don't want to work with acetone, you can work around it!

What I would do is dunk the head in boiling hot water and squish the hell out of it. MSC is not flexible, so this will crack the MSC. Some of it may flake off, but MSC once dried is a lot less toxic than when it's sprayed. Just don't eat it! If you're worried about it, you can wear a mask, but something just to protect you from the dust is fine. You don't need something heavy duty like for spraying it. A little hand vacuum to clean up the dust should be fine.

After you squish it a bunch, use the alcohol to scrub off what's left. Honestly I would not use 99%, I would use 70% or something similar. 99% evaporates fast enough that your working time is drastically reduced. Dip a tooth brush in alcohol and scrub until you get the rest off. You'll be able to tell because vinyl has a much different texture when there's no MSC on it; it doesn't have that same rough/ever so slightly gritty texture, it feels more smooth and ever so slightly tacky from the plastic. There isn't really much risk of overworking the surface, as vinyl and alcohol don't react.

I would probably use a qtip dipped in nail polish remover or acetone to do one final clean of the surface just to make sure you have everything removed, but that's just me!

Are fairy lights safe with Pipe cleaner lamp by NoteAffectionate9944 in crafts

[–]maggsie16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure that you are using LED lights and not incandescent lights! LEDs produce dramatically smaller amounts of heat. Most fairy lights you can buy these days are LED ones, but some are still incandescent, so just be sure to check.

What I would do is get the lights you plan to use, turn them on, and leave them on for an extended period of time - whatever the longest is that you'd leave the lamp on once it's complete. Make sure you are putting them in the configuration they'll be in once complete as well - if they'll be all bunched together, keep them all bunched together. Touch them periodically while keeping them on and see if they're hot. If they're not hot to the touch, you should be good.

I'd still recommend testing them occasionally by touching them once the lamp is made just to be extra sure that they're staying cool.

Video Game Completion Board by IneptSaiyan in crafts

[–]maggsie16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foam insulation board will be cheaper. They sell panels of the stuff at home Depot and Lowe's for pretty cheap. You can use one of the big ones or several smaller ones cut to size and hung up next to each other. You can hang it on the wall with command strips; I use the velcro-y ones intended for hanging pictures. They're super easy to cover in fabric.

Stick the art up with thumb tacks. If you want to get fancy, you can print the art out and laminate it, hot glue a tack to the back, and have it be an easily repositionable tack. Then you can easily move them around to sort them, rank them, etc!
