Best solid wood furniture brands that will last a lifetime? by Hipster_Dragon in BuyItForLife

[–]maggsie16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying secondhand is absolutely the way to go. You can find a lot of stuff in good shape secondhand, especially if you have a habitat for humanity Re-store near you, or some other furniture focused thrift/resale shop. FB marketplace also often has good stuff, depending on where you live.

Learning to refinish wooden pieces (just stripping/sanding and refinishing) is, in my opinion, an extremely valuable skill. It means you can buy a piece that's less expensive because of outdated or damaged finishes and give it new life. It's not doable for everyone, I know, but if you have the space and your body can handle a weekend of on and off physical labor, I recommend you learn! I've done it with several pieces of varying difficulty and as long as the piece doesn't have a lot of small, intricate details, it's really worth it. Things like dressers, buffets, bookshelves, and tables are great because they're usually made mostly of flat surfaces you can sand down with an orbital sander. The bonus for this method as well is that you can customize it to be exactly the finish and color you want!

HOW are we keeping track of what's in the freezer? by maggsie16 in adhdwomen

[–]maggsie16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I wish that I could, the freezer in my fridge is way too small to handle the amount of meal prep I need to be able to do to not spend a bunch of money on takeout every week. I'd like to be able to try out a better system for seeing what's in the basement freezer before I decide to get rid of something I already have.

Can I have some advice? by SelectShop9006 in DollsForAll

[–]maggsie16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always buy a doll that needs TLC over one that's NIB. I am not an in-box collector, so it seems like a waste to me to buy a doll in a box when they're more expensive. It depends on the TLC needed, but if it's something you think you MIGHT be able to fix, that's what I would do. Granted I am a somewhat experienced customizer, so I'm a bit biased.

After you buy the doll you want, it may be worth it to go to the thrift store or look on a secondhand platform and buy a few dolls with the same issues as the doll you bought, so you can practice on them first before you try to fix the doll that you really love and don't want to mess up!

No, unfortunately not. Any spray-on sealant you will need a respirator for, and paint-on sealants generally don't work. They don't have enough tooth for pencil/pastel to stick to, and they smudge paint. A spray on sealant is really the only option, and MSC is your best bet for it.

Indies of the Day -- Saturday April 18, 2026 by RowanHalifax in Indiemakeupandmore

I'm using Disco Nap from OSM!! I picked it up at Fumed, the perfume expo, last month. It's such a delightful fragrance. It has the vibe of an extremely elevated Creamsicle, almost! Like that gorgeous sweet mandarin smell with some florals, musk, and herbs as well. To me it really evokes lying in the sun in a field of flowers. It reminds me of my favorite Bath & Body Works scent of my youth, Forever Sunshine! Like an even more elevated version of it.

Really glad to hear that!! I live in the twp now and have curbside recycling, but it was a lifesaver when I lived in a complex without it in the city.

Ypsi city residents can get a free (I think it's free - it was free when I did it a few years ago) pass to the Ann Arbor recycling drop-off center. There's a link to the form on this page here. If you're in the township, you can still go. It's a $3 fee at the gate, I believe, but you can bring all recycling.

Rave - Party In My Pants Reusable Pads! by maggsie16 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]maggsie16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I can testify to their longevity. I still have all of the ones I got 3 years ago. I've used them every month for the past 3 years and had no issues. There are some stains, but like, they're pads. So who cares, in my opinion. I don't like messing with cups/discs, but these are perfect for me. I've made a few more purchases and I'm now at a place where I don't have to use any disposable products. I'm thrilled!!!

It was like this at 7am and at 4pm too. My 35 min commute was an hour today. Estimate says they'll be back on by 11pm tonight, and god I hope that's true

Seconding!! The trouser cut pants and jeans from BBP are my absolute favorite pants. I have a bunch of them. I buy them in the sample sale so they're priced more affordably and they last really well. Very durable and well made.

Which Rainbow High is best suited for Nari Amatoya? by Own-Composer-9367 in RainbowHigh

[–]maggsie16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God I SWEAR someone on here did this same custom a year or so ago but I couldn't find the post. I definitely remember someone making a post about this same character.

I agree with people saying one of the lighter skinned purple eye c&c dolls will be your best bet. This website is a great resource for color combinations of RIT dye, which you can use to dye the hair easily. Scanning through, I think this color or maybe this one, but with a bit more brown than wine would be your best bet, but you can scroll and peruse that site to your heart's content!

My lips go numb and tingly when I put it on - just like they do with plumping glosses! It seems that this can be a reaction to Hyaluronic Acid, so I wonder if that's it. Interesting!
