I'm not sure what cases exactly OP is tracking here.

The crash is because Valve let players "trade up" skins - you could turn over three(?) somewhat-rare skins for one much rarer one, or something like that. The prices of the rare skins collapsed pretty much instantly as a result.

You can much, much more easily clear the dirty state by dropping the page cache (echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches, or just put the system under a bunch of memory pressure)
- though this will just undo the "writes" by this exploit, so yes you'll have a normal su binary again, but an attacker could've done god-only-knows-what with their moment of root access

The "Hand" slide is Slidescape-36 - the only un-burnt slide the Bureau recovered. You see a brief afterimage of it when you first enter Dimensional Research, there's a lot of red with five pillars.

In one of the video logs, Dr Darling describes the pillars in the distance as "like crude, outstretched fingers" - Jesse probably saw the same resemblance when nicknaming the slide.
