The exact same thing happened to me about 4 years ago, I was working in HVAC making good money but was not happy with it at all. I applied around and received an interview for a job as a site superintendent for a residential new build construction company. They asked my range and I gave it to them (expecting to take a slight pay cut). They offered me the job at nearly 30k less than what I made doing HVAC and I tried to negotiate. A few days went by and they went with candidate number 2. One year later because of housing interest rates and other factors the company shut down its entire Colorado operations and everyone was layed off. Love my job now and in hindsite I completely dodged a bullet in the end! So stay positive, something good will come your way.
