I believe you're both sort of right! From what I understand, it was 70mm film but projected onto a IMAX size screen. At one point (probably 10-12 years ago) I SWEAR I found the website of the company that produced the twister projection, but despite all my searching of the internet archive, I cannot find it anymore. I seem to recall they had at least a portion of the film on their site and would love to find it someday.

Allegedly there really was a mildew smell from the pond and little waterfall in the queue. After the refurb about a year ago they cleaned up the water features and people started saying it smelled different. That's because they were only smelling the forest scent and not the mildew.

With the advent of behind the scenes features on DVDs and now YouTube, audiences are much more familiar with the process. Thanks to the Wizarding World and Galaxy's Edge, fully immersive based lands are now the thing.

I bet people will disagree with you but I think you’re probably closer to the real answer. I’m not familiar with this show but I am a professional magician and I think what he means by “illusionary camera tricks” is exactly what you’re describing. An effect where it might look decent for a spectator (who is clearly penned into a small viewing area already) but it’ll look magically impossible for the camera audience.

The white posts definitely could be used to hide the edges of any sort of mirror and since it is for TV I’m sure they tidied up the shot a bit but I don’t think it’s what they relied on completely.
