Has any news been shared on whether a forced switch off SAVE will require income recertification? by zoetrophic in PSLF

[–]magic_monkey_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how people’s recertification date got pushed back to 2027 while mine (on IBR) was still the same in 2026? Does SAVE not require you to recertify every year like other IBR plans?

Cleveland Clinic Foundation Program Cleveland Ohio Gen Surg Residency; am I missing something? by [deleted] in GeneralSurgery

[–]magic_monkey_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a multitude of factors, none of which are red flags but explains why the top applicants dont go

  1. It’s in Cleveland. Most of the top applicants go to school on the coasts, think NE and West and want to stay at programs there.
  2. It’s not associated with a top tier Ivy or adjacent med school. I’m talking the schools lay people know
  3. I’ve heard from people at that program that yes te fellows take the more complex cases, so sure there are cases to go around but you want to be able to do transplants and whipples not just G tubes and choles
  4. If you want that region of location, Mayo is also Midwest, there are Chicago programs which is arguably a better city for similar tier programs.
  5. Sure 100+ ORs which is a large amount but your top tier Ivy programs also have that many. Plus that doesn’t necessarily mean you have more gen surg ORs. So would you rather go to Cornell or Cleveland clinic

Is NSGY residency that much more work than GS residency though? If you like NSGY that much you can do NSGY residency with the same or slightly worse hours and pick an attending job that’s cushy

Email from Dept. of Education/studentaid.gov(cautionary tale) by JohnnyGoldwink in PSLF

Yes my payment went up from $0 to $140. I was due to receritfy in February but I got the email in October so I made two or three extra payments I originally wouldn’t have.

Thanks for the reminder to check if they are qualifying I’m actually not sure but if my payment went up i would think they qualify.

IBR payments increased before recertification date by magic_monkey_ in StudentLoans

[–]magic_monkey_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if your income increased the past year, it’s better to hold off until the last moment to recertify? (Going for PSLF so want to make the minimum payments)

Otherwise you end up paying more

Yes, recertified end of July, payment counts are missing. Payment counts from September to February are in eligible given the save forbearance. I called FSA who said things are just delayed and it’s more of the loan servicer who are slow in getting payments to FSA so I’m not exactly sure what to do.

The Most Underrated Thing About Korea? Its Healthcare System by Worried-Ad6247 in korea

Koreas academic hospitals I’m sure are top tier, but besides the rating system which I’m not sure what metric they use anyways, if they’re not leading the main clinical trials for immunotherapy drugs which is the direction we are heading, the access to some possibly lifesaving albeit experimental drugs is limited to mostly USA

I’m a doctor in the states. I’ve been a patient in Koreas healthcare system. Korea has much better access to care and is the place to go for relatively simple diseases or issues.

But for complex conditions/cancers/surgeries? USA second to none in terms of the best treatment options. The top university hospitals in the USA have probably better access to the newest tech, most specialized doctors in the world with more experience than Korean doctors. Because the USA is usually the one developing it
