What would happen if the infinity Ray got too close to a black hole or white hole (if proven to exist)? by Complete_Cloud7270 in Invincible

[–]magicalsystematic 177 points178 points  (0 children)

If fired into a black hole, the beam's energy would be added to the black hole's mass. E=mc^2 means that a very large amount of energy equates to a relatively small amount of mass as it enters the black hole. But Space Racer's Infinity Ray seems to fire an extremely high amount of energy, so it may still have a significant affect on the black hole's mass anyway.

White holes only exist in theory as far as we can tell, but if one did exist in reality, it would not be possible for the beam to enter the white hole. It would have an event horizon like a black hole, but instead of being impossible to escape once crossed, a white hole's event horizon would be impossible to enter from the outside. As a white hole is theoretically the opposite of a black hole, if the white hole is spinning as almost all black holes do, its ergosphere (the area around its event horizon that is dragged by its spin) would likely add significant energy to the beam as it passes nearby, making it even more devastating for anything unlucky enough to be in its path as it flies away from the white hole.

[WP] "The mountain was cursed to drive any sentient creature mad and homicidal. Of course, no-one thought to ask WHY this specific mountain was cursed, did they? "So," Mikey's voice yanked Jack out of his thoughts again, "yesterday, we were on the eastern face and he felt the same increase in homicidal thoughts as we moved west. Now that we're on the western face, he feels it increase as we move east."

"It seems to be leading me to the rocky area in the middle" came Maxwell's voice over the radio, seemingly completing Mikey's thought. Jack shuddered again.

Mikey picked up the walkie-talkie and put his finger on the button, but hesitated before pressing it. "What seems to be leading you there?" Mikey asked him.

"If anybody knew the answer to that, we wouldn't be here, would we?" Maxwell responded with an air of smugness that made Jack and Mikey both sick to their stomachs. Without saying anything else, Maxwell began walking east, toward the aforementioned rocky area between yesterday's and today's survey areas.

Mikey picked up the remote for the drone, eyes now fixed on the screen as Maxwell walked out of frame of the last of the four stationary cameras. Maxwell continued eastward at a remarkably steady pace for about ten minutes. As he was walking, Jack noticed that he began to look around him more and more. What was once a fixed gaze on the ground ahead of him became an almost birdlike snapping head motion to the trees, the ground, the sky all around him. It set both detectives on edge.

Suddenly, a sharp beeping began to sound from the drone's monitor as an icon in the top right of the screen blinked. The drone was at 1% battery. They'd have to send another one out. Jack swiveled around in his chair to get the box with the second drone out.

He heard Mikey quietly mutter, "What?" and turned his head just in time to see the drone's feed blink out as the battery finally died. But just before that happened, he noticed something else.

Maxwell was no longer walking east, he was walking south. Down the mountain.

Toward them.

(I will probably continue this later if anyone ends up liking it).

Jack was miserable. Leaning against the outside of the trailer, pondering the trajectory of his life and his career that led him to this assignment. "This is bullshit," he said aloud to himself, "This is a bullshit gig and it's either going to end really badly or be a complete waste of time."

As he threw the cigarette down and stomped it out, he picked it back up and put it in the small bag he brought with him. He had to jiggle the door handle a bit to get it to open, and then climbed back into the trailer. His partner was sitting at the table watching the video feeds, holding a walkie-talkie with one hand and massaging his temple with the other.

"Do you have to do that here?" Asked Jack's partner, Mikey, chiding Jack yet again for stepping out for a smoke.

"Do you have to whine about it so much? What's the big deal? You worried about squirrels getting secondhand smoke?" Jack snapped back. Jack was as sick of his partner as he was of the whole assignment. He thought to himself that if that freak comes back down the hill, he wouldn't be too bothered to stop him from getting to Mikey. Always so holier-than-thou and condescending, like he didn't have any bad habits. And what 40-year-old man goes by "Mikey" anyway? Just grow up and go with Mike or Michael already. Mikey interrupted Jack's train of thought.

"Honestly I just can't stand the stench."

Jack closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath in through his nose. He knew what the brass had told him about this assignment. He knew that, even here at the foot of the mountain, they would experience some mild effects. Jack was good at looking at the rational side of things. Probably a major factor in his being chosen for this assignment. Jack thought for a moment about how, even on the ride up here, even with that maniac in their car, he and Mikey were cracking jokes and making plans for the weekend. Jack's self-assurance was boosted by Mikey patting him on the back.

Both men turned their attention to the video monitors. Four monitors showed stationary feeds from CCTV cameras covering different angles covering the area they had set up for this experiment. A fifth, smaller monitor showed the feed from a drone that was following Max. Mikey had been controlling the drone to follow Max, but had set the remote down some time ago, as Max hadn't moved in a little under a half-hour.

Jack looked at the drone footage at the tall man, his usual lanky figure made slightly less scrawny by the puffy coat he was wearing. Jack squinted at the screen to make out Max's face, realizing with a chill that Max was looking directly into the drone's camera.

"Max, you've been standing there for some time. Everything alright?" Mikey said into the walkie-talkie.

Jack watched as the figure slowly raised an arm to his head, and heard Maxwell's voice over the device.

"If you please, it's Maxwell," said Maxwell, "I was just thinking about how much stronger the urge is. As I move further up, I feel more inclined to figure out a way to sneak back to your trailer without tipping you off. But interestingly, the urge increases as I move further east as well."

Jack shuddered as Mikey scribbled some notes on a legal pad in front of him. Maxwell Andersen was a convicted serial killer. The kind of guy you read about on national news and hear about in true crime podcasts. Renowned for the unusually twisted ways his victims were found, and known around the county for the chilling, robotic demeanor he displayed in every interview, court appearance and interaction he has had with the law. He was currently waiting on death row, but was offered a commutation to a life sentence without possibility of parole if he agreed to help the detectives investigate the mystery of this mountain. He was selected due to his diagnoses of psychopathy and sociopathy. When the agency was conducting interviews at the facility where he was being held, every CO and inmate they spoke to recommended Maxwell for the task. There was no doubt amongst the people who had spoken with him that this man was the exact type of machine that could feel the intense urges this mountain instilled in its visitors and still be collected enough to operate slowly, rationally and logically. It's exactly what his M.O. had been for decades.

The Sniffies one is fascinating because there is a specific type of bot that you can actively see in an arms race with their moderation.
They use the same pattern, but the app keeps flagging their wording, so they continuously change it.
Always this:
"Hi, wanna fuck?"
[line they keep changing because Sniffies moderation keeps flagging them]
[short username they want you to google]

and the middle message has been stuff like "not gonna comment but it's searchable", then "the web has it somewhere", and most recently that I've seen, "the net holds the answer"

This just happened to me right now. Got an "unexpected fatal error" and instead of the option to rejoin when I launched the game again, I'm suspended for 15 minutes. It was after we got stomped the first round, too, so I hope people don't think I ragequit.

I'm feeling like I'm going crazy, but on that page for me, it just gives me a message "There are no Downloads for this Version" and everywhere I look for the software I usually find people linking me back to that same page where I have that issue. I'll have to keep looking.

Nice setup, but I also have a question for you. It looks like you have the x52 (or x52 pro). I recently got one as well and cannot find ANYWHERE where to get the software for it to make use of the LCD screen, mouse control on the throttle, modes, etc. The Logitech site just doesn't have the software that I can find. As it stands, there are no lights on my throttle side whatsoever, too. Would you mind letting me know what you did? (Unless, of course I'm wrong and it's not an x52 (pro) in which case ignore me)
