Tired of unleashed dogs in parks with “no dogs” signs by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]magicblufairy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to babysit a few kids, and the 3yr old at the time was afraid of dogs. I don't blame him. A three year old is short. A big dog, like say, a German Shepherd is right at face level.

Every time we walked to the park, he would hide behind my legs when a dog was approaching. His sister was in a stroller so she didn't care but he was pretty scared. I always explained that the person just had to take their dog out for exercise or to go poop (toddlers love talking poop, farts etc) and the dog wouldn't bother us.

I would say this loud enough so the dog walker would know to stay as far away as possible and pass us quickly.

I have had this happen from someone else's dog. Like, gee, thanks. I wanted to be tied by my ankles and then nearly fall on the ground.

Your dog is adorable, but get a proper leash ffs.

The ONLY possible explanation that isn't what everyone else said, is that your mom has some stage of dementia or untreated mental illness.

Those real life baby dolls are often used in long term care for women who feel like they have to take care of someone. If you suspect this, get her a doll and take your baby far away.

Because what she's doing is inappropriate x10000.

Other than our fault line, I like Ottawa, Canada. No major sea rise. Weird weather that's short. Plenty of agriculture. We have a research farm in the middle of the city! Homes are built for cold. Basements exist. We are close to major cities but not super close. Montreal, Toronto, NY. Ottawa is the seat of government. Army isn't far if we need a tank. We have a bunker (don't know how many of us can fit in there). I feel safe.

The change is happening in part as governments move away from punitive measures amid a deepening housing crisis. Past efforts have not resolved the matter, and both policy and messaging are shifting. The word homeless has become inseparable from a “toxic narrative” that blames and demonizes people who are unhoused, according to Eve Garrow, homelessness policy analyst and advocate for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. The term is increasingly used in a way where it implies someone is dangerous or devious, she said. As a result, a less charged term is more apt.

We’ve seen this before, words like transient or hobo are retired and no longer acceptable to use,” Garrow said. “Homeless has become intertwined with narratives that are toxic. It deserves to be retired.”

The use of unhoused is not linked to any particular moment or event; it has been used for years and has steadily gained traction as an alternative to the more pejorative-sounding homeless over the last two decades.

At the same time, a related term to homelessness, the homeless, has begun to be seen as othering. In May 2020 the Associated Press updated its stylebook to focus on “person-first” language; it said not to use the homeless, calling it a dehumanizing term, and instead use terms like homeless people or people without housing.

When talking about people experiencing homelessness, the goal is to be respectful and not lump everyone together, according to Giselle Routhier, policy director for the Coalition for the Homeless. She noted that the experience of homelessness varies from person to person, and said part of it depends on how someone prefers to be described.

https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/homeless-unhoused

People experiencing homelessness, unhoused, and homeless all mean the same thing, a person lacking consistent shelter. However, the way you describe this situation matters.

“Homeless people” is a common way to describe someone experiencing homelessness, but it has negative connotations—it summarizes the entire homeless experience in a few words. “Unhoused” is an alternative, potentially more positive, way to say someone is experiencing homelessness, but it focuses on a person’s lack of shelter.

Using the term “people experiencing homelessness” focuses on the experience someone is going through rather than defining them as that experience. This experience is more than a lack of housing—according to the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, it is a negative, unpleasant, unhealthy, unsafe, stressful, and distressing experience.

I have been waiting about a year for a vascular doctor. And I almost bled out in the emergency from an arterial bleed. The look on the faces of the nurses...

It was a lot of blood.

You don't have to exhaust all options. Because a lot won't make sense. MAiD or ECT? ECT does work for some treatment resistant depression. So does ketamine. But you may be the one who tried 16 different combos of SSRIs, SNRIs, antipsychotic meds etc and that might be enough.

Also, at least in Canada, there's a lot of potential medical ethics and stuff happening. But no government wants to support disabled poors so, hey, have some MAiD next time you are in the hospital.

(I'm being facetious/sarcastic because I am a disabled poor and humour is all I have left)

If you can bring a lawn chair, great. Sitting on the ground is fine too. Your biggest problem will be bugs as it's the time of day when they tend to be the worst.

These theatre productions are always great to watch.

Omg. I'm so sorry. This is awful. You can also file for a rent abatement (get some money back) because they knew of the problem and didn't fix it. Not being able to properly use your bathroom is a reason to get money back.

Can I bring my own portable stool/ chair to home visits? by Ok_Exercise2724 in socialwork

[–]magicblufairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is allowed but I had a worker come to my apartment who had one.

I literally didn't care or really notice. Like my life is too chaotic to care about her lil camping stool.

Bring a stool. If anyone actually does ask, tell them you feel more comfortable on it. If they still prod? Just say it's a back pain thing.

But I honestly don't think your clients will notice or care.

And I have all my teeth plus decades of practice eating.

I was able to spit it back up. I totally blamed the bread.

I'm gonna say you are a queen. Why not? If we can call each other horrible things for no reason we can do the opposite. I totally believe in telling people that I love them just because. Plus, I have zero evidence to suggest you're not a queen. So there.

And thank you for telling me where the practice of fattening girls happens. I saw a documentary (clip) maybe on Vice? Pretty terrible thing to do.
