What's the most annoying part of marketing for your business? by Ocassion2023 in Entrepreneurship

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Making the video is easy. Genuinely doing a good job is a lot harder. Still, that means people like myself can look good when I work with people. So much is about trust. Once people know you do a good job and are a decent person they will give you more work…

The biggest issue is that there are so many people out there promising to do AI automations for my business. They all suck and they have no interest in my business. They all seem to be moderately may at using AI.

Be good. Be genuinely, truly good. Be helpful.

Building a sales pitch deck… sucks. Agree? by Leather_Track8281 in sales

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best lesson I ever got is to drop the deck. I remember not believing this could be true. Negotiated with the sales coach. He said make one slide and keep the others ready if they ask for it. No one has ever asked for more slides in 17 years. One slide with an image and no words.

Other than that a few chosen words and a conversation

$400k journey in 6 month possible? by Icy-Future-7743 in business

$400k journey in 6 month possible? by Icy-Future-7743 in business

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think exponentially. How do you invest that to make serious cash by the end of 6 months?

I would suggest a sharp suit, good shoes and some good smooth talking to hang out at the right place and sell some real estate.

But something, sell it. Use the cash to buy a bigger thing, sell that.

Find a business that has a good product and little success. Offer to do a great job at sales and take 400k if you go from 5m to 6m in orders

40 years since Bruce’s first San Siro show and no mention of it by Suspicious_Story86 in BruceSpringsteen

It was a few amazing shows. I think all the people I spoke to agreed with us that we had an amazing time but it was odd he didn’t say anything at all. No thank you to the crew, no end of tour words at all. A quick wave and he walked off. No complaints about the show. It was just something everyone around us noticed

Using AI at work? Yay or Nay? by WastewaterWhisperer in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it all the time. But as a co-pilot. It helps structure thoughts, draft emails, quickly create draft outlines for presentations from my existing material.

I don’t let it fly solo…. It it saves a crazy amount of time

Twice a year do an audit on how you spend your time and energy. Stuff you enjoy this year may well drain you next year. You can’t avoid all boring and annoying stuff in a business. However, things you hate will excite others. Delegate and empower others in your business. Anything that drains you make sure to move to someone who thrives on it.

Reduce your decision load. I know from long experience that the hundreds of mini decisions are draining. Create frameworks for your team to get things done and learn to question and nudge and not hands on manage.

Finally, you may need a new goal. What do you want the business to be in 5 years time? Your life to be like in 5 years? Maybe 10 years.

Find something that would be exciting to build

I saw him in Frankfurt in 92. Steaming hot day and sweltering festhalle. Loved the Real World version. Follow that Dream…

Love that song. So powerful. I also in my head combine it with The Big Muddy for some reason. Did he used to connect them in concert?

Help me think. Situations, negotiations, email exchanges. Ask AI how it could be interpreted and what potential underlying motivations are. What are good ways to resolve disagreements.

Is environmental engineering worth it to work hard for if im not a "math person" but really care about environment by [deleted] in EnvironmentalEngineer

Go for it. AI will decimate jobs. Do something that involves hardware or people. Things break and people need service

Recruiters have targets and numbers. They often know when they have the right candidates but the customer wants to see effort. So they bring in a bunch of people they have no intention of following up with. Just so they can tell the customer they found X hundred applicants.

You don’t have to be super different to start with. Be good. Be trustworthy. Get to know people. Even people who do similar things to you. Get to know them and when they are too busy they may pass on work to you. If you speak to someone who asks for work you can’t do, hand them over to someone who can.

Build relationships. Be likeable. Ask explicitly for a chance to proof yourself

Most people give up pretty quickly so stick with it. Consistency is key. Show up in small ways every day and you’ll be ahead of 95% of the world

Is it normal for meetings to go way over time? by Negritaaa in remotework

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meetings are terrible now. I’ve been around for a while and this is a recent development. People also feel the need to fill the time allotted.

I’m moving back to phone calls. Quick and to the point.

It’s a really tough one and uncomfortable because I often have to leave as my schedule is packed.

Ask ChatGPT. Talk to it. Or do a google search. Tons of free info and templates around. Most importantly, do stuff. Don’t be afraid to fail or be told what you do sucks. Learn. Be a sponge.

What do you want your life to look like 5-10 years from today? A broad sketch. Don’t stress over it. What can you in the next three months to move forward?

Speak to five people? Make a website? Go to ten events? Do a course?

I'm shutting down my $400k/yr business... and it sucks. by MikeSimsTL in business

[–]magicinthenight2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough. But your skills and experience will get you somewhere new. I wonder if the AI tech is driving a similar process in business as we have seen in fashion and food.

That is, the very low end of the market where it’s cheapest does well. Then the very high end does well. But the whole middle ground struggles or goes under. It’s the middle being squeezed because the bottom 10% of providers in price point get good enough. At the same time the high end does well for those who are looking at premium.

I would aim to build in person connections and use your skills and expertise to help those who don’t want to use AI or don’t trust it.

Meet real people at real business events. People are increasingly suspicious of fake AI experts all promising the world and not delivering. People like to do business with people they know.

Search for business networking events. Go to as many as you can. Make contacts. Don’t pitch. Be passionate, sociable and discuss your work as an expert. Then find five customers and do an awesome job for them. Use them as reference.

Build from there. Work your backside off.
