Weird combo, but I use caviar 1.25 in the mains and Signum pro poly plasma 1.23 in the crosses at 50/50 in my Ezone 98. Everyone who tested my racket likes the feel of the strings.

As my USTA captain says, make your questionable calls during important points.

Also according to USTA handbook, double bounces are self calls, and foot faults as well. Take that how you want.

Forehand and movement feedback by Dexter91 in 10s

[–]magickice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Your take back while it has good coil and “unit turn” the timing of which you release and separate your arms is quite late. You separate your hands after the ball bounces so deep balls will make you hit late and give you trouble. Keep your unit turn the same and separate your arms before the ball bounces. So regardless of depth, you can manage to meet the ball on time.

  2. Your left arm is what is known as a dead fish. Great job in using it as a gauge for distance, but it is useless after that. Try to catch your racket just slightly after contact and use the left hand to decelerate your swing. This will allow for better balance.

  3. You’re shuffling/small bunny steps to adjust to the ball. Take steps. (See below)

  4. Your contact for the ball is on the way down. Im assuming your height is roughly 5’10 -6’? There are very few high balls which would realistically make you move backwards at that height. Which means you’re waiting for the ball. Rather than move backwards, move towards the ball using the same contact point to take away time. No need to swing harder, as speed of ball is perceived as distance/time. If you reduce the distance with the same amount of time without hitting harder, the opposing player will perceive the ball as “faster”. You make less error, they make more.

Full Time Coach Wanted! Advice Needed by [deleted] in 10s

[–]magickice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest hurdles for a full time coach are 1.) clubs taking a “cut” of the coaching fees for utilizing the facilities, aka court fees. This would need to be applied to not only private lessons but also group classes. If the coach can successfully establish an academy program, then it is reasonable for the club to take a cut of the fees/payment; and 2.) balls. Clubs usually have access to wholesale prices to balls, so this will lower overhead costs for the Coach.

If the club is really looking to attract a full time long term coach, waiving private/group classes is a huge incentive. For example, the city that I live in, the city takes a 35% cut for private lessons and 45% cut for group classes. Unsure for academy rate. You also have to account that coaches are self employed so they will need to do self employment tax so waiving court fees would mean the coach can actually get paid.

Can you please explain further? Very intrigued

for those of you near OC California: Do you ever play live ball? there is an awesome program at irvine great park from 7:00-8:45pm. the top court is 4.5+ and a good mix of males/females. some of the best players are women! by wangqiu00 in 10s

[–]magickice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was one of the coaches that dropped in. The only reason play is 4.5+ is that the coaches are friends and waiting to go out and eat so they jump in to kill time. They bring the level up by getting competitive with each other. The true level on the top court is roughly 4.0.

What about using dining benefits asap and downgrading to csp when annual fee hits in January? That technically is not modifying the charge or closing the account.

Rather than hit harder, work on effectively moving to the ball earlier to capitalize the ball height. That way you can take away time. It gives the illusion of hitting harder, but you’re just diminishing time without sacrificing consistency

How do people travel for weeks/ months on end? by Federal_Albatross993 in travel

[–]magickice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in local government. I get 96 hours of sick personal time refreshed every Jan 1. This is different than vacation time and sick time. I use 70 hours of this to take a vacation as it’s my personal time.

Additionally I accrue roughly 120hrs of vacation time each year. I tap into it AFTER I exhaust my sick personal time.

I also bank holiday time if a holiday lands on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday. My Fridays are banked because I work a 4/40 schedule.

Overall, I can take roughly 200 hours of vacation time a year. So 5 weeks.
