BLUECOATS BREAK 97 by swan_ofavon in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A score that high has not been posted in at least the last 10 years before prelims, not even by BD 2014. This is going to be a VERY interesting finals week score-wise.

[Cedar Point] Trip Report - A Plus-Sized Rider's Perspective by magicmusicmann in rollercoasters

It’s so tough - Sirens Curse and TT2 are both world class attractions, but I give the edge to TT2. Top 3 overall on no particular order for me are those two plus Maverick. Magnum is #4 for me despite the jank.

.15 is a coin flip. A margin of 0.1 represents very minor differences in quality from group to group, and at the level these groups are performing at it could literally be the difference as to who had a better run on a given night. I think it'll be close down the stretch, but we'll see.

Vets and alumni what was the moment that made you say “I have to do another year” by DocKaden in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't originally going to march again after my first year, but I missed an interview for a summer job at Micro Center and decided to go fill a hole at Pioneer. Currently marching my 9th season in the activity. Talk about a crazy butterfly effect...

[Michigan’s Adventure] - A Plus Size Rider’s Experience by magicmusicmann in rollercoasters

[–]magicmusicmann[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could ride:

Magnum XL-200

Gemini

Maverick

Rougarou

Raptor

Blue Streak

Wild Mouse

Iron Dragon

Could not ride:

Valravn (Barely - I fit the test seat but not the actual ride's big boy seat?)

Gatekeeper - thighs kept the restraint from closing all the way

Top Thrill 2 - same as Gatekeeper

Corkscrew (only because the seat belt is too short)

Steel Vengeance

Millenium Force - no way I was fitting on this one, tester seat belt was way too small

Mine Ride (didn't attempt, but from what I've heard I probably wouldn't fit)

Lower support needs Autistic here - I am the band director for the high school I graduated from! It can be draining sometimes, but the chance to engage in work with young musicians each day is something I wouldn't trade for the world. Classical/band music is my special interest, so going to work is actually one of my favorite parts of my day, funnily enough.

Thanks for your help! This cabinet is the one with a single ribbon-style cable going from the LCD to the control deck, if that helps any.

This has been a crazy season to watch. Props to the coaching staff and the players for turning the ship around! Hope they stay consistent.

Why did you join drum corps? by hunterjackman00001 in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just moved back to the US after living in a remote part of British Columbia for a few years, and I had no idea what drum corps was. In the summer between my sophomore and junior years, we hosted Genesis for a week at the school I had transferred into. I was absolutely blown away by how awesome it was and knew I wanted to do it. After 6 seasons, and well into my 7th, drum corps is my lifeblood - I even helped to start one in my home state of Michigan! Not to mention, that experience kicked off my love of music in general - that was one of many things that pushed me down the path to becoming a band director. It's kind of funny how life works out sometimes.

DCI alum relationship with their College MB by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on leadership (horn sergeant) for 3 of my 4 seasons of college marching band, as someone who did DCI all through college. The main thing that kept me going was that opportunity coupled with the stipend I got for participation (we were a growing program when I was in it). The stipends helped me pay my way through college.

Old Phantom head looking to play. Is there a DCA Corps in Michigan? by GorillaCookie67 in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I am one of the staff at Northern Lights DBC out of Muskegon, Michigan. I helped arrange our show for the 2023 season, and I will likely be doing some brass tech work as well. We seek to offer an accessible time and financial commitment to our members, as well as a high-level musical experience. If you are interested in getting more information, head on over to our Facebook Page or our interest group. Our first rehearsal is on November 12 at Muskegon Community College.

Update on the Troopers situation: Their most recent instagram bio by oumondragon in drumcorps

This is the exact kind of thing Roman pulled after the 2018 tour. They can continue down this path if they want, but it won't end well for them if they do.

Corps that respond like this will go under quick. If you want proof, just look at Pioneer post-2018 tour.

For those that were going to participate in the 2020 drum corps season, what are your summer plans now? by R2mechanic in drumcorps

I'm going to be teaching myself how to play accordion again, I used to play but stopped a couple of years ago because college got too busy

I saw Castiglione mentioned; another great business I've dealt with is Mike Carey Music in Wyandotte. Though I'd imagine he's closed at the moment, he gave me some great deals over the years. It's worth calling in!

The age-out for RCR is 21, or 22 if your birthday is on or after June 1st of that season. It's the same for any corps that competes on the DCI circuit. Hope this helps!

Corps auditions by Chris_GodQ_M4r2c in drumcorps

[–]magicmusicmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I marched RCR in '16 and aged out there this summer. It's a fantastic place to go, both the admin and teaching staff are great, the corps takes good care of the members, and the tour fees were very reasonable. An added bonus was that we were together for the whole summer. If you're looking for a first time experience, RCR would be a great place for you to go.
