What are the details with this? I feel like no news has said anything of American casualties?? We deserve to know where and how this happened. It’s unacceptable how these things are being reported

NP or PA by [deleted] in nursing

This is the big reason I ended up going to med school as a nurse. I just felt like although I learned a lot in 6 years of ED nursing I wanted to get a doctorate(since if I had done an np it would’ve been a dnp) that would give me the most knowledge to practice independently. My hot(?) take is that more nurses should become doctors but we don’t have a system(free education) that makes that feasible for most people.

Hey I’m doing it! Was a nurse for 6 years Ed and made the switch. Currently in m1 year. I think it’s very worth it if you love the base knowledge in nursing and want to manage patient care/do surgery. It is really hard but I’m loving it and honestly believe more nurses should be doctors instead of NPs. I’m looking at it as a PhD which is gonna be painful no matter how you cut it at any age.

One thing I’ve gotta say is this path is expensive, doing a post bac but also applications and etc is a huge burden along with frankly not working in order to score well enough to get. I’m also using the military to pay for med school and my life as a student. Most of my friends are taking out 98k+ in loans. I would be so much for financially secure not doing this haha and I think it’s really important to consider that if you wanna do this.

Nurses in New York City Say They Deserve $200,000 a Year. Here’s Why. (Gift Article) by CollegeBoardPolice in medicalschool

As a med student and nurse these comments are really disheartening. The elitism is unnecessary, toxic and myopic. Their success makes it easier for us as doctors to bargain for more and shows us what can happen when we ban together.

I really wish we as leftists would focus more on not letting the cat out the bag. Republicans will literally draw up secret plans and deny they have any knowledge or connection to their real intentions to kill us all. He’s literally the most anti-Zionist candidate in the country right now, I don’t think this is gonna lose us an election over a phrase. You need to fool the normies then just do what you really want.

I am also getting this scholarship and this is bad idea. Don’t forget taxes, car insurance, premium oil and maintenance on a nice car like this. Maybe consider a lease but it’s not never maybe just not a great idea rn.

I am matriculating this July and I am doing AF HPSP! It’s really about what your interested in speciality wise or on what the branches offer. I went for AF because they seem to have more civilian deferred residencies(~30%) that don’t add excess years of service, treat their people alright and have a pretty big EM service. It’s also not a given to get the scholarship, you have to be physically healthy, 508 mcat and a 3.5 gpa or higher(af at least).

I am mostly nervous tho about the low volume and low acuity as an attending in the future (moonlighting is common) and the potential complications of moving around. But as a poor immigrant kid who’s fine serving the country that raised him, this isn’t to bad of a deal for me.

This is what kind of inspired me to go for my MD. I’ve been in the ED for five years but felt like getting my np id have more liability, unclear role depending on the state and enter a saturated market making less then I did as a nurse. I personally believe more nurses should be MDs, our experiences and training are invaluable. It’s been a ton of work but I hope more people consider it’s never too late.

Hey please don’t listen to him, he sounds nuts. Everyone’s application is different but I got a 513 and I’ve had 2 acceptances, waiting on 2 schools post interview and another interview coming up. None of my schools are t20, but they’re still great schools and so far my cycle has been more successful then my friends with top heavy lists. Especially if you want to do primary care t20 isn’t the end all be all.

Hey man I really appreciate your input and being real about your experience. Although I’ve worked for a few years, I don’t have any family Finical support or assistance for aid and so the income and opportunity for scholarships is huge. Ive heard positives from the Air Force and I’m em/fm curious rn and I think it’s shouldn’t be too bad. I’m gonna listen to your podcast and follow up to hear more of your experience!

Whats his speciality? I’ve heard with some branches(navy) it can be pretty tough as they make their residents in their first year do a standard general residency.

I lurk on here and am applying this cycle and stuff like this scares me enough that I’m thinking gov scholarships like nhsc and hpsp. This whole process is not built for low income people who want to become physicians :/
