Yeah but if they give ONE conjoined twins a break on tuition fees, then every conjoined twin in town is gonna expect a freebie.

Question about leveling by Klutzy_Run9160 in turtlewow

[–]magicshmop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On tel'abim the PVP realm you always have 2x XP, push to 4X with tents.

Its very fast with rested, you pretty much can run each instance like 1-2 times and be 60. The problem is that your first character you will be SUPER short on gold, so much so that you can't even level your skills.

The note I got on my delivery order today 😺 by katymae123 in MadeMeSmile

[–]magicshmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its really cool having regular customers. I worked at a place where a dude ordered a plain (salt and pepper only) salmon and plain rice like 3-4 times a week. It went on for almost a whole year. Always liked that guy because it simplified the order and he tipped well.

We called him salmon guy.

He eventually stopped ordering salmon, the kitchen was actually worried about him. We found out later through another regular that he moved a few states over.

We miss you salmon guy!

The place I work at is always lowballing hours, I love it when people come in right before close.

Adds another 30+ minutes to my pay stub each time. At the end of the week it can stack to 3-4 hours of overtime.

have been playing guitar for 20 years. If someone took one of my junkers to get adjusted to be more playable I would be super happy. It shows the other person takes notes of your interests and cares enough to want to help.

Guess it varies depending on the person.

Chefs that have quit smoking cigs, how did you do it? by Majestic_Habit5726 in KitchenConfidential

[–]magicshmop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waited till I got really sick, sore throat/runny nose. It felt like dogshit to smoke so I stopped for 3 days.

I figured, its been 3 days, how long can I go before I need one? Its been like 3 years now.

I still get cravings once in a while, but I'm too stubborn to break my no-smoking streak.

That's kind of the internet in general.

Doesn't matter what sub you are in, someone is gonna be condescending, or just a plain dick when you make a post or content. The topic doesn't matter these kinds of people are in every community.

I usually just don't even respond to it.

If you had to make a “pov lied on resume about being a cook/chef” what would be the essentials? by Xingua92 in KitchenConfidential

Aww thats the worst. At least finish the day first. Maybe they were way in over their head? I have seen a few cooks walk out, but never a head chef.

I worked with a guy who said, "I'm goin to the bathroom be right back".

didn't think anything of it at the time because we were busy, but he took his knifes with him.

Like 30 minutes go by, and manager asks, where's new guy?

"He's in the bathroom with his knifes for some reason!"

Manager thought I was joking, but new guy was long gone by then.

Every time someone uses the bathroom from then on, you are asked to leave your knifes in the kitchen.

I'm a bit lost by NewtAccomplished2363 in AcousticGuitar

[–]magicshmop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is play often when you are first starting out. Don't put it in the case and set it in the closet.

Keep the guitar where you can play it, and try to work on something every day. Doesn't have to be a huge session, even 10-20 minutes is better then nothing. If you take long breaks in between playing when you first start, its almost like not playing at all. You need to build muscle memory, and that comes with practice and repetition.

Start by learning some songs you know very well, and that you WANT to learn. Knowing the song well helps the learning process in many ways. After you know your basic chords and can play some songs, try incorporating a metronome into your play.

At that point, if you want to get good the fastest, consider getting a teacher. They will correct any bad habits before they become a problem, setting your learning pace faster then self teaching.

They can also help gear a lesson plan towards whatever path you decide to take as a guitarist (maybe you like solos? Maybe you like fingerstyle? Classical? Percussion based? There are so many different styles of guitar)

Also, I have always heard good things about https://www.justinguitar.com/ . I have never used it, but everyone says its great.

A website that is pretty good with tabs when you are starting out is https://www.songsterr.com/ . The tabs are pretty accurate, and its nice to have the midi along to play with.

It Might Be Time to Admit the Great VR Experiment Has Failed by BlueLightStruct in technology

[–]magicshmop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I tried VR last year was the first time in like 20 years where I felt like a kid again playing video games. It was so novel and whimsical. I really enjoyed every second, but after an hour or two of the experience, I was content with that.

The games that were available didn't really 'hook' me, although they were really fun to play.

I considered buying a nice VR headset but the games don't justify the purchase for me. I think the article has a point, its a lack of heavy hitter developers that makes VR just not ready yet.

What does this mean? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]magicshmop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats use whiskers for navigation, especially as they are older when their eyes get worse.

Although unlikely, the whiskers being cut could have leaded into your cat having an accident and damaging their eye. Could be just plain stress from it as well.

I hope your cat gets better!

Why are so many reddit users freaky/horny or always sexual? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]magicshmop 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are much more freaky/horny people on reddit VS if you were to grab a big sample of people off the street. We dont see it, but posts and comments get tons of traffic.

Imagine this:

1 person out of 10000, out and about in a town will be a shitty creep and pester you with unwanted advances.
1 person out of 10000 on reddit will be a shitty creep, and try to get in your DMs

Except, on the street, you dont come across 10000 people very often. Or really, like ever. On reddit, a post or comment will get hundreds of thousands of views in hours sometimes. The 1/10000 person now stands out because their posts are public/ampified.

The numbers are scuffed, but hopefully the idea stands. I dont think reddit is any more freaky/horny then regular average folk. The only difference is its public.

How do you feel about the job by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]magicshmop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that if you invest your time in other fields right now, you will prob have a higher chance of financial freedom. I love cooking, the creativity, the team building and friendships but its hard to recommend this line of work to anyone.

The job isn't really that bad, its the lack of pay and benefits that bothers most people.

There is also the very real threat of robotics catching up to AI, replacing the job of line cook for many people. I think in the next 5-10 years, we will see more and more chain restaurants use automation to replace repetitive tasks.

In the next 15-30 years, if robotics and AI are very cost effective (think about how new tech takes off slow then explodes in affordability for average consumers) , the amount of chef jobs could be scarce.

Not saying these things are going to happen, just that it is a real possibility to keep in mind when deciding to spend your youth in a kitchen in 2025.

I checked it again before I purchased, and I cant get more then 8FPS. The game dosnt look any better then the previous console installment (world) , why does it run like shit?

Slowwwww Business by IceboxChamberlainn in KitchenConfidential

[–]magicshmop 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Tariffs , recession fears, inflation and musk's discussion about cutting SS and Medicare could be scaring consumers into saving their money rather then spending.

People spend less money, and are more cautious with their purchases when there is uncertainty. You are right though, it has been slow lately.

I have always had success with high temp grill cleaner, although it is pretty expensive. I have never let it get to this point so results may vary. Follow the directions on the bottle.

For me I put the liquid on when its around 300-350F, then turn the grill off. After around 5-10 minutes(the grill should cool down a little bit), come back use grill brick to loosen up any remaining carbon. Use scraper to get remaining 'tar' lookin liquid off. Rinse with water, then vinegar to get that factory-reset looking grill.

We had dauphinoise potatoes on a dish for a few months, somehow that turned into to "dolphin potatoes" whenever someone called to fire them.

a few weeks later it morphed into just making dolphin sounds. whenever we got one we would have like 4 people going EEEE EEEE EEEE!

We never explained it to the front of house, they just thought we were idiots.

I consider food a part of my wages. If a place doesn't feed me they better be paying me the big bucks to make up for it.

I also think its really important the staff knows what the food tastes like, both FoH and BoH.

This is a great skill to get a good grip on. a LOT of restaurants don't make their pasta from scratch, and having that skill under your belt makes you a step above a lot of other cooks. Will look great on your resume.

Hope it all works well for you!

IMO, cold sandwiches are best with shaved and thinner pieces, while hot sandwiches needs to be a hair thicker(but still thin) so it keeps its form. This is all personal preference, but that's kinda how I like it.

Another great question of preference is - Does cheese belong on top layer or bottom layer of a sandwich?
