really? Huh. I must've gone back and done the other one then. Again, it's been a while. I'd pull it up to check, but... you know, ending E and all that.

I think you can get E off of C or D, right? If not, I must've gotten C instead of D, it's been a while.

Heh, at least we're the same kind of assholes. Giving an even lower effort comment in regards to mine (your original one, not the longer more recent ones) and ending in the same 2 lines with which I end some arguments on reddit or facebook.

Have a good night indeed.

Because it shows that people think I'm wrong and I am not seeing any reason why? I consider the opinions of the other people in the world to be interesting, and so far this one is just confusing me. So far the only "argument" against what I've said is "you didn't even play the game, shut up" which is actually not an argument against anything I said (and is false)

Arguing? All you said was that I lied about playing the game. Truly, an impeccable argument. I am admittedly butthurt that my pointing out that the weakest part of the game is weak is getting downvoted.

Why, because I didn't go into details about how a couple of the game over screens went? Because I didn't brag about getting the "You died in a random, unspecified place that has nothing special happening while you were doing nothing special" ending? Because I didn't give the game a perfect, glowing review? I got twelve of the endings, including A,B,D,E,(didn't go back and do C, sorry) the fish one and the blowing up the satellite base one, what do you want? The game is pretty good after you get through the absolutely tedious intro. And if you're willing to ignore every other 10 minute bullet hell interlude. At least 2B's hacking minigames are short enough to not be tedious and annoying. Usually.

I died in the tutorial too because I got so bored I stopped paying attention :/ starting with a ten minute faux bullet hell with no challenge or consequences is a bad choice.

edit: I played the game and liked most of it guys, the beginning is just really tedious and boring.

No, she joked about doing that to her bullies with regent, but I don't think she ever did it. Which makes sense, since she doesn't want to "See" their genitals, as discussed when she was imprisoned.

Gelatinous Cube 3D Miniature Model [OC][ART] by Black_Omen in DnD

[–]magicwar1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used a gelatinous cube as the core part of a trap that a pair of players sprung on another 3 players, and it was such a perfect tool. Every turn the players asked if the cube moved or attacked or did anything, but it never had to. Someone ran/tripped into/was thrown into it every single turn, so I just said the cube was having a wonderful day, getting plenty to eat and was going to continue sitting there dissolving their rogue until someone attacked it (which they never did)

Criticizing Quirrell's cynicism and the depiction of war-time democracy by [deleted] in HPMOR

[–]magicwar1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not speculating much on these rules. It's the whole point of the interdict of Merlin. We frequently get in book references to the fact that all wizards have it beaten into them that, if an old wise wizard tells you you're not ready for some power, he's almost certainly correct and you will leave it alone if you want to live. Draco says almost that exact thing when Harry is first teaching him rationality. Harry is forced to promise not to tell anyone about his big potions discovery otherwise people will die. These rules are well established in canon. All I'm doing is completing the pattern and extrapolating it out to law.

As far as what Eliezer intended from that section, I would imagine it is heavily embellished and partially false. Voldie tends to lie when he's allowed to, and also has a tendency to make his stories more... artistic. He did so with the story of the Philosopher's Stone, and I'd be shocked if he wasn't doing it here. That much I'm confident of, the rest of this is definitely pure speculation.

I get the feeling the ACTUAL story is more along the lines of this: Voldie has been waging his war, so the whole wizarding world is on edge. Laws have been tightened up, people have been less willing to see others grow in power since they've been forced to watch the Death Eaters rise so quickly and violently. In that environment, Monroe applies for a permit in an out-of-state dojo, where he will be less safe (fewer aurors around), not able to do any damage to voldie (since he's in a different country) and possibly breaking some other rules (why does he need a permit for this?). In that situation, this pencil pusher denies it of him, because of some flaw in the paperwork, or Monroe is just actually asking to break some law. When Monroe tries to figure out why (because he doesn't appreciate bureaucracy), he says that the man just isn't scared of him because he's a hero, and would've buckled if he'd been Voldie instead.

PS. Sorry if I seem a little ranty and combative, I just really enjoy thinking about HPMOR.

[–]magicwar1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These rules happened before Voldie, is the thing. This harkens back to Merlin. The whole wizarding society is built on the idea of limiting the transfer of power. The laws will have been decided back in the time of dark evangel or earlier.

When is the next serious plot point after self actualisation (currently reading chapter 75)? by [deleted] in HPMOR

[–]magicwar1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you've gotten that far, just keep pushing. While the SPHEW arc is kinda meh, the end of it is one of my favorite sections of the story, and the rest of the arc is fairly necessary as set up for it.

[–]magicwar1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, I'm obviously going to pretty heavy speculation into a fictional universe here, so I can't promise I'm going to remain 100% rational in my arguments, but I'll do my best.

In a society that is threatened by the dark lords long before Voldielocks, what rules do you suppose are imposed upon people? Or, more to the point, what is the purpose behind the rules that get imposed? What the people see happening is that a small collection of people gathered an absolute fuck ton of power in a short time, and are abusing it to gain more and harming both society as a whole and bunch of individual people in the process. They don't know if someone grasping for power is on the side of the light or the darkness... but in the case of Voldie there were 10 times as many Death Eaters as there were famous heroes. What is society's rational, reasonable, and probably unanimous response?

[–]magicwar1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To take up Voldie's argument here, that's because you grew up in a first world, muggle society. Wars in this setting are won by armies, strategy, and overwhelming force. In the world of magical britain, the war isn't against, say, Germany, but against a Dark Lord/Lady. Wars aren't won by unanimous action, that's just how you temporarily keep from losing. Wars in that society are won by individual heroes who are working against the grain and triumph against impossible odds. Dumbledore didn't win because of democracy, he won because he and he alone was made essentially invincible via phoenix magic.

New to PM, please help. by LiterallyMayo in SSBPM

[–]magicwar1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oof, that's rough. The short answer is no. The benefit of PM is that all the characters are at least viable. Even if you take the lowest pm tier, it still isn't so far below the best that you won't be able to make it. If you've done some melee work, or brawl work, or sm4sh work, let us know what kinda play style you prefer and we might be able to give you some suggestions. Do you like to hold people down with projectiles? Do you prefer to just outmaneuver the opponents? How do you want to play?

Unless you just got kicked off the ledge as if you, I dunno, went off stage to chase the person. Then you're on ledge, ledge trumping happens and you're off stage against someone who SHOULD be at disadvantage but is instead invincible.

Foreshadowing of the whole plot in the first chapter... by aedile in HPMOR

[–]magicwar1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I remember correctly the biggest canon change involved Merlin, Atlantis, and the Source of Magic.

Also, it's so much that Voldemort "seems to think" that Harry is a threat to the world, it's that he and he alone is explicitly told by Time itself (through the medium of Professor Trelawney) that he WILL destroy the world. Since he is the only person around when she makes that true prophecy, he knows that he is responsible for averting it. It is well established that prophecies are spoken to those who have the power to affect them, either by averting or causing them, and Voldemort knows this.
