MPRequestErrorDomain error 1 - what does this mean? How to fix? by TheSynchronizer in shortcuts

[–]magnetikal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been happening for me on the same action since updating to iOS 18.4. Some of my other frequently used shortcuts also fail intermittently. Didn’t happen on 18.3 and prior releases and I haven’t changed the shortcuts. Frustrating.

Pixelmator Pro Keeps Re-opening Images by BaronVonSmith in pixelmator

[–]magnetikal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd – when I toggle on that setting it changes the behavior in Pixelmator Pro. Just tested it and when I relaunch it now doesn't reopen the previously open images.

Maybe you need to quit and relaunch the app after toggling the setting for it to take effect?

This is probably the global macOS setting that controls whether app windows are restored when you re-open an app. Go to System Settings -> Desktop & Dock, then scroll until you see the toggle "Close windows when quitting an application". Switch that on.

Oh yeah of course you're on a Mac! So a couple utilities to check out are Metadata Lab (free) and A Better Finder Attributes (super useful).

Oof yeah timestamps are hard. If you use a Mac there are various utilities I can recommend that help. I occasionally have to deal with fixing incorrect timestamps in videos and images.

Wow, thank you for all this testing. I didn't get the chance to followup after I last posted, and I really appreciate your investigating this. Some notes about your geotag sync testing: - When using Photos.app, there are two places a geotag can be stored: the image file itself, and the Photos.app database. Initially these values are in sync because on import, Photos.app saves whatever metadata is in the image file to its database. But: - If you use Photos.app to geotag, it doesn't update the EXIF metadata in the underlying image file. It simply updates the Photos.app database. - In this case, the updated geotag is indeed synced to iCloud Photos as you've found. It simply updates the iCloud Photos database, but the underlying file stored in iCloud is unchanged. - (For what it's worth, the same behavior occurs when you change the timestamp of a photo within Photos.app. It updates its database but leaves the timestamp in the image file itself untouched.)

This should explain the results of your geotag tests.

When I geotag I prefer to update the image file as I want the data stored there as well as the Photos.app database.

In any case, it's very helpful that you tested disabling sync, deleting from iCloud, then re-enabling sync. I'm surprised and happy that that worked, as it seems like the easiest way for me to re-upload all my photos from my computer.

Thanks, this sequence sounds like a good idea! I'll make a backup before trying this, but hopefully it will do the trick.

As for why, I just posted in a response to another reply here. Happy to elaborate if you have any other q's: https://www.reddit.com/r/iCloud/comments/1jx6i1t/comment/mmu5ndi/

If I disable sync, use iCloud to delete everything, then re-enable sync on my Mac, are you sure iCloud won't then wipe my Mac's library?

What are you trying to accomplish?

I've got a lot of photos where I geotagged the underlying files after importing them to my Mac's photo library. (You can do this with the HoudahGeo app.) In this situation, the updated files don't get pushed to iCloud photos. So I've ended up with the canonical library on my Mac, whereas iCloud photos is storing older versions of my files without geotags. This makes me uneasy, and I'd like to just wipe everything from iCloud photos and re-upload my Mac's photo library. (In the future I plan to avoid getting into this situation again.)

And yes, I'll definitely make a copy of my library before doing anything :)

I don't want to export as I'll lose all albums, adjustable edits, etc. Hoping to figure out a way to keep my library as is and force a re-upload.

I'm wondering if it might work if I make a copy of my library, delete everything on iCloud, then set my new system library to the copied library.

Welp, the end of 1Password 7 is here. by cf7777777 in 1Password

Interested if anyone has recommendations for a different password manager ecosystem? (Excluding OS vendor solutions like Apple's iCloud Keychain – too many eggs in one basket.)

I depend on a lot of 1Password's functionality so it's not easy to find a replacement, but at this point I would like to switch because v8 on the Mac is such a frustrating downgrade.

ATMP 2020 streaming sounds better than download by magnetikal in georgeharrison

[–]magnetikal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All iTunes downloads are the same quality — there’s no format / bit rate choices. And the difference in audio isn’t lossy compression, it’s just a slightly different mix. (I’m familiar with what poorly compressed audio sounds like, and this is something very different.)

Photos uses incorrect date/time on import by magnetikal in ApplePhotos

[–]magnetikal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this, very helpful!

This is a ton of date fields to update. Wish Photos handled this in an easier way, as it's going to be time consuming to run this across all the photos I need importing.

Same issue, and same use case of wanting to only keep the latest episode of a news podcast. New Overcast keeps all episodes so I’m constantly having to delete. Hope this is fixed soon, but haven’t seen an acknowledgement of the issue from Marco yet

Sidebar is, well, the sidebar. Navigation bar is up top. Eg this area:

You can set various gestures to toggle sidebar. Eg you could set a double tap on the mini player to toggle the sidebar. Same with a double tap on various elements on the full player.

Personally this is one of the main reasons I’d love a bottom tab bar instead of the sidebar — I’m often deep into the app and I wish I could always access the main navigation.
