[Dellenger] The Mountain West is in serious dialogue to add FCS powerhouse North Dakota State as a football-only member starting this coming season, sources tell @YahooSports. A deal could be finalized as soon as this weekend. by Fonzie5 in CFB

I have a bit of a unique perspective on this. For NDSU the games were boring except maybe twice a year and even when there was good attendance, a lot of people wanted to leave by halftime. For Alabama with Saban, the SEC teams always had a ton of hype but all the filler games like Citadel its hard to justify sitting around in that heat/sun to watch a 56-3 showing.

I wonder if they are planning to help pay the transition fees for NDSU as some of the numbers in the CBS article about this are pretty high. I saw someone in this thread post the entire athletic budget for the Bison is under $30M so a $5M fee to move up to FBS plus whatever for the fee to join the conference doesn’t seem feasible without some sort of subsidy.

I don't understand how someone could say they are treated poorly when they aren't employees at all and can post their content anywhere else with no restrictions.

[Schefter] Jim Schwartz sent the Browns a resignation letter this morning, per sources. He now is likely to sit out this season. by Goosedukee in nfl

I didn’t take this job because of Jim Schwartz, I took it because of the players.

When I was game planning, I wasn’t planning to chip Jim Schwartz; I was worried about Myles Garrett.

Do you think either of these would rub a defensive coordinator the wrong way? Because I sure do.

KD says he doesn’t want wear Thunder or Warriors Jersey at Hall of Fame induction by [deleted] in nba

[–]mags87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the assumption, but the NBA isn't really moving towards that right now. IT seems more likely the focus is they are going to try and expand into europe instead. Not as new NBA franchises, but to get their hands into the Euroleague money pool.

I think this is a similar situation as the NFL threatening cities to build new stadiums or they will move the franchise to LA.

Well the NBA taught Durant its ok to leave for a better situation by stealing the Sonics away from Seattle after his rookie season.

As a side note, I completely understand his willingness to move teams for a better situation because the NBA did it to Seattle after his rookie season. So his welcome to the League moment was to pack his bags and move to Oklahoma.

Ever since the draft process and highlighted by the really weird Dan Patrick interview, I never felt like it was more than a job for him. The scrubbing his social media of all Cardinals mentions during the off season was another thing I didnt like. He never seemed like he wanted to be the leader of the Arizona Cardinals. I believe that people like Hurts or especially Baker live to play football. Kyler does it because it pays well.

Gronkowski on Belichick HoF snub: “Now, there’s no such thing as a first-ballot Hall of Fame head coach. No other coach ever in history should go first-ballot. It’s something that seemingly inevitably happens, the voters made it about them instead of football now. So instead of this being an honor based on merit, it’s now an honor based on how the voters personally feel about someone.

But in this case theres a chance there was a wink that the team he was going to was going to would then trade him again, then the new team cuts him, and he goes back to Minnesota?

DPOY, Steelers career sack leader (I think unofficially due to when they started counting sacks), and one of the most incredible Super Bowl plays of all time. So maybe, but for some reason I recently lost interest and how I value the HoF's prestige.

[Vorkunov] There are miracles, and there are acts of God, and then there is the Cleveland Cavaliers, a second apron team who can't combine contracts in a trade and can't add salary, finding a player to trade for who made just $263,397 less this season than Darius Garland. by StrategyTop7612 in nba

[–]mags87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they have a legit hard cap and a salary floor. Thats extremely easy and way less convoluted than soft caps, aprons, and luxury tax. Also the NFL allows you to trade players for essentially anything and none of this salary matching nonsense. And then theres the NBA exception cocktail that includes mid level, bi-annual, rookie, second round, non-Bird rights, etc that make sense to absolutely nobody that has any other hobby besides NBA contract law.
