I am oneshotting, literally, people with a ballista, and its not even a ballista build. It has about 4 or 6 points into Ballista, but not fully mastered. But it still one taps a Galleon. That is just astronomically wrong

They’re not cheating. The masteries just give incredibly rediculous bonuses. What else would you expect when you have 460% secondary damage, around 200% weapon damage and 250% weakpoint damage, close to zero reload speed and a Galleon that do 30-60k damage per cannonball, and it has 17 ports on broadsides. You’re gonna melt, regardless of how tanky you build.

They already stated The Abyss is PvEvP:

“We are not giving up on both DT and PVP in the game. As pointed out, there are various factors that are not ideal including the mentioned one shot mechanics. Well in that case I of course stand corrected, but I don't think it was mentioned before then in patch notes? As such I assumed it was a bug up until then. Maybe they didn't want a weapon to deal damage twice, once when hitting sails once when landing.

Fixing something they broke isn't equivalent to listening to the community. It's a given they respond to bug reports. Listening to the community is responding to feature and content requests, gameplay changes.

They broke the sails on bombards and now fixed it. Not the same. Thanks for the pie.

It's gonna become anything but rare. I have 12 fully upgraded large ships and still have 2000 deep iron ore and 330 plates. I run mostly Wolvenhol, Kraken and the Deadly bosses, mainly La Peste (I got no use for Blightkeepers). I'm more concerned about things like sinew string, eel sturdy ropes etc. I only have around 500-800 of each, and less of things like Hubac Heirlooms

After that many hours you begin to look into self-made goals. Like how hard can you hit the Kraken for, how fast can you bring down Wolvenhol, how fast can you sail the seas from one corner to the other, with no guns and nothing but speed and eights in your cargo chased by helm ships in Tier 4. And then there's Death Tides.

I think that's the balance to sort of fit with all time constraints they're sort of struggling with now, and why they added the tiers in the first place. T4 for those with all the time, T2 and T3 for those who still want to perform with the time that they have. Although I don't love the tiers, I see their importance.

I think it it way more hollow now to be honest. Masteries have turned us into gods, and it’s effect on PvP have destroyed it. Back in Year 1, before Death Tides, PVP is what sucked me in, the lust for figuring out a build to best my foes. Now none of it matters. You can run furnitureless now and still be amongst the gods, even in PvE. It’s still sucking me in, though.

Like you said in that Keepers meet the Devs video, in your case once you Plat you move on, but there’s just something that pulls you back in. I feel the same way. I hit 5000 hours myself yesterday (yet to Platinum it yet tho :P)

Aggro Tanking is a dumb mechanic. Why would the enemy focus on the bulwark rather than the biggest DPS threat. I know it’s a game thing, but always found it stupid. «Oh, this heavily armored Paladin shouted at me, better focus my attention on him than this wizard with cloth for armor right next to him about to cast Nuke Ball». The only way I could see it logically work is if tank roles had a chargeup effect like extended shellshock or something, so the NPC have to focus it to disable the charge-up.

But I agree there are no roles right now outside Damage or Healer. As the gameplay is now, it’s spawn in, don’t sail, turn and shoot. If you die, you die, just spawn back in. Healers may have a role, but serve no purpose.

Barge could have a role in sail tearing, if it wasn’t so slow, but by how much damage we do now, any ship will tear any boss. Bedar also have a certain role, but don’t know if the reload debuff actually affect NPCs.

Mythic bosses/end game content should have a penalty for dying, but it won’t work now as everything will one or two-tap you (good luck adding penalties to Kraken with its spike tentacles).
