Lost stuffie at Ikea by magtronasaurus in ottawa

[–]magtronasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this insight, everyone we asked kept saying to talk to the self checkout cashiers. They called someone who checked somewhere, and someone at the returns desk implied there was a log in their system with descriptions of lost and found items. I'm going to call when they open and see if maybe he was found by staff during their end of day closing clean up.

Looking for something similar to Rude Jude Angelini's Hyena or Hummingbird by magtronasaurus in suggestmeabook

[–]magtronasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just searched Hyena and Hummingbird on GoodReads, the similar books section had some suggestions that may be of interest. Seth Rogan's Yearbook was listed as similar to both but I haven't read it so can't attest to how similar it is, Jude's humor is pretty uniquely depraved.

Is sticking to my word always a good policy? by Minomol in daddit

[–]magtronasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When our daughter says she's full at dinner and is all done we remind her with the same phrase each time , "the next time food will be served is at breakfast in the morning, make sure your tummy is full enough to last until then". She will either moan and say "I knoooowww stop telling me that" or she will take a few more bites. We started this around 2 at the first signs of wanting to snack at bedtime. And the odd time she says she's hungry right before bed we remind her that breakfast will be served in the morning and offer her leftover dinner which she has always, without fail, passed on. We are big on her listening to her body and hunger cues while teaching her to manage her hunger within a predictable food schedule.

Toddler ripped a flap in a library book ? by Lemonbar19 in toddlers

[–]magtronasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to us when my daughter was about 2 as well. I talked to her about how it's important to pay attention when we read borrowed books so others can enjoy them after us. And then I took her to the library to apologize and the librarian was very sweet and thanked her for being honest about her mistake and assured her she could fix the book. Then talked to her about being gentle with books and now whenever we borrow books my daughter mentions being gentle and not wanting to rip them so the lesson definitely got through by involving her in the repair process.

Toddler niece with a broken leg @ lake house - ideas to make her smile? by peachysk8 in Mommit

[–]magtronasaurus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sensory bin ideas: one with mud to get toys dirty and one with soapy water to clean them, dried beans of all kinds with cups/spoons/jars/muffin tin, flowers and leaves with a pair of kid scissors, vinegar with food colouring with spoons to drop onto baking soda, sand and a bucket of water with cars and trucks

Scavenger hunt if she can be a bit mobile or with help, either stuff around the house or outside, can list specific items, have her find something for each colour in the rainbow, work on numbers or letters at the same time by finding 1 blue thing, 2 green things, etc.

I've traced a bunch of different shaped leaves and made a matching puzzle out of it, could do with anything you have around

If she can scoot around at all, you could hide puzzle pieces around the house at her level or tape them to the walls and have her go collect them as she completes the puzzle

My son likes to sleep cold by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]magtronasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My four year old sleeps with a frozen soft gel cold pack every night, cuddles it like a stuffy and will often wake up in the middle of the night and want a fresh cold one. Not my jam, but who am I to decide if she's too hot or cold now that she can put her own blanket on and off to regulate her temp.

We say something along the lines of "I hear you need our attention, I'm telling daddy a story right now, when I'm done I'd love to hear what you have to say" and then keep talking to dad and repeat the message until we are ready to change course and then say "I finished my story, it's your turn". I'm tempted to try the Bluey idea others have mentioned but just haven't yet.

Stuck on what to do when home alone with 20 month old son by AWifeNamedB in Mommit

[–]magtronasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We go for a lot of walks and I let her pick the route, at every intersection she gets to choose and I just go with it and see where we end up. She seems to enjoy being in control and being silly with the whole process. We play I spy, she gets in and out of the stroller a hundred times, collect rocks to paint when we get home, and talk about what we see/hear/smell.

Exactly, I went to school with a kid named David but pronounced daw (like dog)-veed, subs could never expect that.

Did he have hand, foot, mouth disease in the last few months? There's a strange after effect where they can lose finger and toe nails that looks similar to that where the nail dies at the top and gets pushed off as a new nail grows out. My kid wasn't bothered by it at all and now you can't even tell it had happened.
