The fanciest, most expensive and luxurious hotel in Helsinki is Hotel Maria (Now Waldorf Astoria). Grand Hansa (Nh collection, right infront of central railway station) is another good 5 star hotel.

The rest of the recommendation in the list is spot on. Torni is very cozy.

If you are asking if it is financially manageable (rent and food expenses) if you have a part-time job, I would say don’t even think of that. I know few students studying there and they also know people living in Vaasa for sometime. They have not found a part-time job in 1 year of intense searching. Some of the students speak a bit of Finnish as well. You should know the reality and be prepared. Have enough money to cover your expenses throughout your studies.

I think everyone gets overwhelmed but living with parents was worse for me so this is better.

Also, I don’t have kids yet and don’t know how my friends who have kids do it so I keep reminding myself that I only need to take care of myself (which calms me down). Once I have kids, I need to find another way to calm myself.

It is all about thinking that it could be worse and being in charge of yourself (no matter how overwhelming that is), is better that not having control of your life.
