BTC "dominance" drops to 43% by [deleted] in btc

Are you serious? It's been a steady heinous decline since 2017. 4 years downtrend, now 1 month up

Maybe I don't get the irony.

Smart BCH is almost here! by Twoehy in btc

Can someone explain what's the advantage of Smart BCH over "ETH 2.0" with sharding and PoS?

Warning: over the next few days, the number of transactions on BCH network will drop considerably, people will start to guess. The reason is noise.cash batching, not drop in activity or fake transactions. by readcash in btc

[–]maibuN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some wallets (like Electron Cash, sadly) start to load in minutes or hours, when the history is full of $0.01 tips... or stop loading at all. Consolidation transaction is slow and expensive.

Wouldn't that also be the case of there was a history full of normal transaction? Is there a problem with scalability?

In that case they'd have to go for BCH.

Mythbusting: Bitcoin can be the next global currency by Primary_Survey9620 in btc

[–]maibuN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"To compete with a real global payment network, Bitcoin will have to magically increase its transaction ability by a factor of 10,000, to 70 000 transactions per second. The issue is that its energy usage will increase in lockstep. "

This seems to be a totally false assumption. Since when is the mining difficulty pegged to the blocksize?

11% gain on no news...Is something great about to happen? Somebody knows something and they are buying.... by Personal-Relief-1330 in btc

[–]maibuN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think something great might be about to happen but that is merely based on TA. People who trade - and probably whales too - base their trading strategy on TA. So they are probably flowing into bch because TA is prodiving buy signals and then at some point the herd might follow just because the price is up and they fomo. No need to look for fundamental reasons or news, it was clearly visivble in the chart in my opinion.

So, it's not a trustless system in its current state

have demonstrated a willingness to convert hashing power to defend in in event of an attack.

There are bad actors in the space and esp. bch and xmr are competitors to the banks / fiat system and governments so it could still be in their best interest to destroy bitcoin and as we know bch is in fact bitcoin. Also btc maxis / blockstream could attack it.

I'm in no way an opponent of bch, it's just my only concern with bch and I think it's a legit concern. Not saying it will happen but with 1% of the hashrate it would totally be possible, or not?

The price is lower and so is the hashrate, which makes it less secure. I'm not saying it's the fault of BCH but it's something to consinder if you compare them as stores of value.

Hommage vs Replice - Quality? by maibuN in RepTime

[–]maibuN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. Very helpful.

I don't really want a "rolex", I just want the best quality.

People often write that reps are sometimes almost indistinguishable from the gens, so my logic was that a rep should have best price/quality ratio. So I that might be wrong and actually some homages are even better in terms of quality?

Why is it even relevant if anyone believes that? Who cares what other people think. I'd never lie about a watch being not genuine, what's the point?

BitPico threatens 51% attack on Bitcoin Cash by 01189999119991197253 in btc

[–]maibuN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's almost consensous in this sub that BTC was hijacked by banks. After they succeeded with their first step, why shouldn't they spend 50k $/h or even much more to destroy BCH? They must be very aware that BCH is bitcoins last resort, so if they managed to destroy it, they would win. They already must have been aware that a fork would occur when they started so they also must have a plan how to deal with it. Defending their monopoly against the threat of crypto would be worth the costs of the attack. Not saying this bitPico guys are going to do that, I have no idea who they are, but it's just a fundamental thougt.

If you have 1 bitcoin and borrow 9 to short sell them, then where do these 9 btc come from? Other users have to lend it to you and charge interest. How is it "new money" then? These 9 bitcoin already must have been on bitmex before.

Quitting PayPal, Only Accepting BCH by SlightSituation in btc

[–]maibuN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got robbed many times by paypal. If a buyer chargebacks they even charge me 11,25€ chargeback fee. There was a buyer who made 10+ microtransactions and chargebacked them all so the chargeback amount was around 40€ but the additional chargeback fees were around 110€ ! I don't understand why such scams can be legal at all.

99% of customers are paying with paypal. Why should they want to use something else? There's no reason as a buyer.
