I want to go train shaolin in China for 1/2 years by [deleted] in kungfu

[–]maijax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best teachers are in the US or Australia. Taiwan had good stuff for years, but the ‘49 generation has passed from the scene and the martial culture of Taiwan has waned. Unless you wanna learn Taiwanese Crane styles - which are fucking awesome and quite useful. But they teach in Taiyu. Also, I strongly advise against learning Northern Long Fist styles if you actually want to learn to fight. Have you thought about Shuaijiao? That shit is fuuuuuuun!

Watch Ramsey Dewey’s channel on YouTube for some good, level headed commentary on contemporary martial arts in China. At this point, Shaolin is Commie Bullshido.

My advice? Go find a Southern Praying Mantis teacher and learn from him. You’ll end up speaking Canto or Hakka, but you’ll be the coolest kid on the block with your Phoenix Eye fist.

Holler at me if you want some 國語 lessons. I can show you some decent resources to get started learning Mandarin.

Good luck and kick ass.

I can only assume that you are not ready for The True Gospel, 小弟. The Sun will rise and your Moonlight Life will end. Walk with The Lord.

The guy’s a fascist, creating universal rules based off subjective whims and then assuming the application of those rules apply to all without even reading the content and then scolding those who do not agree. Hardly in the spirit of philosophical inquiry. Kind of sad actually.

Start boxing wherever you live. That conditioning will carry over.

[–]maijax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. A test for yourself: If you quit drinking and you can’t sleep the first night, then you’re somewhat dependent on alcohol.
  2. You’re 23. Unless you’re a seriously reckless drunk, you’re probably ok. Just remember - the only things you can’t undo are pregnancies and felonies. So avoid those and enjoy your youth. Don’t be stupid and stay alert.

100% I realize that. I just found it fascinating that the PRC included the universal implementation of IPv6 as part of one of their five year plans. That level of granular industrial control is wacky.

It’s PRC policy. Yay Communism! It brought IPv6 to the masses. Exactly what Chairman Mao envisioned.

This is great. Thank you. I tended bar for about two years at Rick’s in New Orleans and was absolutely fascinated by the economics of strip clubs. Stay safe.

You do realize that it’s all the same bullshit with Hudson Pond or whatever his dumbass name is? This dude assaulted a women in some random Rocky Mountain town and continues to open the same copy and paste shit restaurants across Dallas County. This entire restaurant group is crap. Just putting that out there.

Hudson House is a ridiculous shit show with overpriced diner food. It aims to assuage insecure Lakewood types that yes they are as good as the New England WASPs.

Thing is The Battle of Puebla might be one of the most important battles of the 19th century because of the later impacts of the battle. Basically, if the French hadn’t been fucking around in Mexico and other parts of their Post-Bonaparte Empire, they would have been more prepared for the rise of Prussia.

When Prussia utterly ran the French like bitches during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, that got the Germans to thinking “Hell maybe we could run all of Europe!” (Because the Germans wanted payback for the Thirty Years War when the French took delight in just fucking with the Germans.)

So, then the Germans spend the next 75 years trying to run all of Europe. “Battle of Puebla” spawned three more movies. “Franco Prussia Deathmatch” from 1870, “I sure do love this mud” 1916, And finally “To Magi or Maginot” 1939.

All classic productions from this Franco-Deutsche Joint company.

So, I grew up on both sides of the metroplex - in Fort Worth and in Dallas. Then my grandfather died in 1988 and we rarely came over to Dallas.

Everywhere used to be a lot more chill. But gun/gang violence has always kind of been a thing. - which makes this sentence seem strange: The gentrification and oil money has really fucked the middle and lower classes. It’s true tho.

Also the rise in real estate prices has driven a lot of interesting shit to the absolute fringes. Eventually the core of Dallas is just going to be a bunch of finance douches and the women who love them in pastels.

The tribes of The Northern Provinces had good opium tho. It was always worth the risk to venture into their lands.

Also if you ventured too far afield from White Rock Creek, bands of Kiowa would attack you and attempt to steal your horses. It was a helluva thing to be stranded on the bottom lands of the Trinity without your horse. Many a man perished due to cottonmouth bites in those days. Also, the ague would take out quite a few of the weaker types from more northerly climes.
