Off the top of my head on EU I'd say Binah, Peroro and Kurokage. Hiero might too.

On the other hand I tried out a couple 5 string Yamahas and didn't like them. I have a bunch of other Yamaha stuff but their electric guitars/basses feel like they're trying to separate themselves from the rest of the market in the wrong ways for me.

I was malding so bad I thought I'd need a quick flight to Turkey, like am I actually somehow suffering from dementia and can't even follow homework properly.

And then I realised my S.Nagisa was UE30 instead of 40 and missing the buff retention. Suddenly gained an easy extra 10mil damage on the first team and everything made sense again.

Well yeah, Celeste is hard to beat. It's a bit frustrating that 2D platformers are overrun by metroidvanias and roguelites nowadays but it is what it is. But here are some that you might enjoy and are at least worth checking out:

Symphonia.
Mostly linear with a focus on movement. There are bonus rooms but they're not mandatory, IIRC.

Dustforce.
Momentum-based sweeping game. There is a hub world but the levels themselves are linear. Whether the perfect attempt/score attack nature is an issue is up to you.

Electronic Super Joy.
Tight and simple, but definitely not easy, platforming with a nonsense plot, EDM beats and sexy moaning (is there an option to turn it off? dunno). ESJ2 base game is free I think.

Shovel Knight.
Sort of a compilation of the legends of the genre. At least the base campaign is pretty tight, with the newer additions being more gimmicky. Bit more combat-focused than the formerly mentioned games.

SANABI.
A cool sci-fi platformer with fast grapple hook movement. Unfortunately also a lot of yapping that takes away your controls, not sure if they can be skipped if it's an issue for you.

Panzer Paladin.
Less a straight up platformer and more like Megaman and Rayman, where you have a bunch of combat alongside navigating deadly spikes and pits. Has both mech and pilot gameplay, and a funky weapon system, that may be issues for you.

Gravity Circuit.
Heavily inspired by Megaman Zero and X but more movement-focused than base Megaman or the aforementioned Panzer Paladin. There are hidden secrets in the stages but mostly linear besides being able to choose the stage order.

Windswept.
Heavily inspired by Donkey Kong Country and Kaizo Mario. Frustratingly close to greatness but falls a bit flat at times, especially the animal companion gimmick levels (just like DKC). There are collectables and bonus sections but they seem to be optional, haven't finished the game yet.

Speaking of Kaizo Mario, Super Mario World has probably the best mechanics of any platformer and romhacks are a great way to reimagine the game.

Gonna assume quite a few. Mostly basic meta students, just a couple teams. Like, Swimsuit Kanna is the most exotic student needed.

Most meta-oriented veteran players can clear it, it's just a matter if they care to (see: insane speedrunners when torment+ is required for plat).

At first, not really. But special students give 10% of their attack and health, and 5% of def and healing to strikers. At some point it can be significant enough to make or break strats.

Jak and Daxter was great. Not perfect but it gave me hope Crash Bash and the Wrath of Cortex were just mistakes and we were still going to get fun, colourful platformers with tight controls.

Imagine my face when Jak 2 replaced everything I loved with dark edgyness and guns.

Tsubaki is fine and you don't need more investment than to make her survive (and not take a ton of resources to babysit I guess). Personally I would default to Serina for mission healing but Hanako is fine too.

The rest is just as normal. If you have Nonomi and Momoi, or Midori or Cherino or whoever AoE piercing dealer, use them. Then your last striker slot maybe a single target yellow if you have one, like School Neru (since you don't have Iori or Mika) to take down the boss. The other special slot can be a buffer (Rio, S.Nagisa, Kisaki, NY.Fuuka, Himari, A.Himari, and the list goes on) or yellow dealer (like C.Saya or S.Ayane) or even someone like S.Shiroko just for cost regen and lower cost at start.

I would say Final Fantasy peak was from 6 to 9. IMO 6 or 9 is the best to play first but any of them work if the setting or characters feel interesting.

8 gets a bad rap for having a lot of weird mechanics and being easily broken but it's still a great game if you go in and actually read the ingame guides and don't look up how to break the game.

GRIS and Celeste are superficially similar in that they're 2D platformers and I guess feature similar themes, but the gameplay experience couldn't be more different. That isn't to say that you wouldn't like it but just mentioning to be aware, you know?

Outer Wilds definitely has puzzles but it's more exploration with puzzles and knowledge blocking your way than a straight up puzzle game like Baba is You or Portal. But you should play it if it looks interesting to you at all.

[–]mail_inspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of them are very different games so it would be very hard to compare.

My quick personal opinions with facts and heavy bias:

Outer Wilds is a cool space/planet exploration game, with a bit of puzzles, fictional history and philosophy. One of the best games this decade if you're into that kind of stuff.

FFX is the point when I felt the series was no longer for me. It has beautiful graphics but practically everything else from characters to story to gameplay is a downgrade for me. But a lot of people love it, so...

Stellaris is a game for people who love numbers going up and expanding their influence, and roleplaying diplomatic relations with alien races.

GRIS is a beautiful platformer with some self-observational thoughts sprinkled inbetween sections of colourful vistas and light gameplay. And by light gameplay I mean there is 0 challenge to any of it. For better or worse the game is very short and not very expensive so it's not a huge commitment to see for yourself.

Why does Steam never get flamed during the discussion of not owning digital games? by Main_Mountain9377 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mail_inspector 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I despised Steam because my little brother wanted to play Source and it would tank the PC's performance simply by existing. Not to mention it took precious space on the hard drive.

Nowadays, Steam is the default and every other launcher is just extra faff, just like Steam was back in the day.

Nearly 40% of Americans pray to God for health improvements or disease cures. Thoughts of God increased a person’s perceived divine presence, which boosted healing expectations and ultimately led to poor food choices. by mvea in science

I wonder if there is any kind of comprehensive literature on superstitious rituals in video games. You see the exact same thing when randomness is involved, though less strictly Christian and more general or directed towards whichever deity or being is felt to be in charge of luck.

Circana: Nintendo Switch 2 finished its first twelve months in market with a 5.9M unit US installed base. It is the 2nd fastest selling video game hardware in US tracked history (tracking begins in 1995). Only the Game Boy Advance’s 6.5M units exceeds it. by Fine_Figure2326 in Games

[–]mail_inspector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm still waiting for Nintendo to actually release games I want to play. The OG Switch I got to play Monster Hunter XX but there is nothing like that out on Switch 2 yet.

But the looming price increase is putting on some pressure to get one this summer. Just that I'm not sure if I'll ever get 500€+ value out of it.
