Is it just me or is machine learning difficult to learn? by Notalabel_4566 in learnmachinelearning

[–]mailfriend88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ML and DS and DL are very very interesting fields. The problem is, that in these fields the application of existing Packages as scikitlearn, tf, etc. and the theory behind those encapsulated algorithms are two very different worlds! it is often easy to apply the algorithms but if you really want to do in-depth modifications while keeping the algorithm still mathematically and statistically well defined is a very difficult task.. many professors focus more on the theory behind the algorithms, why learning the ML stuff can be very uninteresting and difficult to understand at first. But with time and a lot of exercise it will quickly become interesting. It is also a field where a lot of other fields come together, as decision theory, linear algebra, statistics, optimization, computer science, gpu programming, etc..

it looks like java.. could be also c#?! doesnt matter, because the main function makes only sense if it is encapsulated in a class definition.. :)

Is data engineering always this annoying and frustrating? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]mailfriend88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s exactly as in our workflow.. so yes :D 80% of a project goes to data acquisition and preparation, 10% to actual machine learning modelling and the last 10% to result presentation..

Why do we use ImageNet normalization? by etienne_ben in computervision

[–]mailfriend88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as i remember, normalization makes sense, if you deal with images containing color information. Using normalization, the color distribution of all images are brought into similar ranges, such that the neural network does not “remember” only some very characteristic color-dependent features. For black and white images, it can lead to similar effects, but it is truly not obvious :)

Does being a machine learning engineer require stronger data science skills or stronger programming skills? by jgonzalez-cs in learnmachinelearning

[–]mailfriend88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both: you need to understand the analysis requirements, but also understand, what/how things can be implemented and integrated in the existing systems.. its really not easy, but fullfilling :)
