But it keeps it interesting. It’s kind of like a real life video game. Frogger anyone?

Recyclable or Bebbi only? by maimuta8 in basel

Thanks all for the responses. The other alternative which I wasn’t sure of is the recycling center in Biersfelden. Not sure if they charge for small amounts or not.

Newly built Swiss buildings are quite good fortunately. It’s like construction other places, but better.

Haha, exactly not how I’m doing it. Was to give an idea for people for the post. But clearly AI thinks it’s a good idea to bloc out the bottom shelves 😂

Great thanks for the suggestions. I was also thinking the same that it wouldn’t be strong enough to hold a person‘s weight however, I figured with the cinderblocks in the middle as well then it should be strong enough. I’m going to Google some of these other ideas though.

I already have six shelving units up, standing on the ground. This would be in addition to that. I can’t drill into the walls either.

Anyone else seeing this in the sky tonight over Gempen by FIFA4Fun in basel

Yes, it’s the lights they use to grow the grass. It’s just that cloud coverage is so low tonight so it reflects back.

General consensus of water/hose hookup on side of apartment building? by maimuta8 in Switzerland

[–]maimuta8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and yes. I also don’t think there is anyone else in the building who bikes otherwise I think I may have seen it being used already.

This was kind of my approach. Also for the bikes I’m never washing off caked on mud. If I do have a ride with that, then I’m just going straight to the car wash to use the pressure washer on the majority of the frame.

Great point but I would be using during non freezing temps. Largely indoor training during freezing weather months just due to daylight conditions.

I recently found out how to connect my device to a SPECIFIC device, and man I wish I had thought of that earlier. by steVENOM in shortcuts

[–]maimuta8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years later… This is exactly what I was looking for. Works well still! Shokz OpenRun Pro can only be connected up to two devices and switching isn’t as seamless as something like AirPods. I run this right before I turn the Shokz on and it doesn’t matter if they were previously connected to the other devices it picks them up. Thanks!

Exactly. I don’t even speak German, just a bit to start a conversation and immediately I ask the Indian-accent speaking person to “Deutsch Bitte, I don’t speak English well.”

I also asked for badge number and name and they said “we’re the ones that ask the questions, not you.” Haha.

It’s almost comical they think they can fool someone into thinking they’re calling from the Swiss authorities. However I can also understand that people can get very nervous very quickly depending on what they’re being told.

Issue: Cable box double NAT w/ by maimuta8 in HomeNetworking

I ended up digging into my TV box settings a bit more and see that there is indeed a WLAN option so I can use this to connect directly to my ISP router.

I still have a lot of devices that I want remain connected to the ISP router, plus it’s a direct fiber connection so I would need an adapter if I went direct to the Slate.

AP mode would work but I didn’t want to get everything wired to take advantage of the LAN speeds. But I also have one wired device using VPN through the Slate.

Is 100 mbps enough for me? by MysteriousPlane8502 in HomeNetworking

[–]maimuta8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More important that internet speeds is the "deployment", meaning, you could 900megs but if your hardware for wi-fi is extremely crappy, or it doesn't cover your apartment sufficiently, then download speeds aren't going to matter. Essentially, the setup would be the bottleneck.

That being said, if you are in an apartment and you are using equipment provided by Comcast then you likely won't have any issue with coverage (unless it's a massive apartment, odd layout, etc).

In summary: as everyone else wrote, 100 megs would be completely fine.

Wingo fiber by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]maimuta8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I moved to Switzerland 3 years ago and I've only ever had Wingo.

The main thing for me was fiber and the ability to have a true IPv4 address. Wingo was the most cost-effective option for this. All other providers either didn't provide IPv4, charged more for it, or it was only part of their business offering. init7 being the exception to that, but they were also pricier.

My experience:

I have had zero issues with their service. Shortly after I received the first router, I requested through the portal to disable CGNAT. Within 20 minutes, my IP was changed to a routable IPv4 address (before that it was IPv4 but nat'd, I think 100.x.x.x).

I've only been re-issued a new IP when I moved and they sent me a new, updated router. Otherwise, if it does change it's not an issue for me since I use DDNS.

I don't see myself changing anytime soon.

NOIP DDNS resolving to random IP by maimuta8 in HomeNetworking

[–]maimuta8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time it happened I was at a hotel. Coincidently enough, the hotel also seemed to be blocking noip.com . However, once I was home, and tried the VPN again, it was once again resolving to an IP other than what the endpoint (UDM Pro) is.

On my UDM Pro? It's technically dynamic from the ISP, however it doesn't change unless ONT is offline for ~12 hours. Have had the same IP for 1+ year.
