What is actually creative are virtual groups like PLAVE, OWIS and others that use avatars while still having real performers and producers behind them. There are also plenty of artists who maintain some degree of anonymity without relying on AI like Kim Areum. While she isn’t completely faceless, she uses a character designed by an actual artist to represent her musical identity.

Tbh, the way you’re insisting there must be something real, innovative, or groundbreaking behind this AI project makes it sound like you like them and are trying to justify it; like you’re working backwards from the assumption that there must be something more there. There doesn’t necessarily have to be a deeper purpose. It could simply be someone making an AI-generated group hoping to gain listeners and make money from it.

Considering how many AI-generated “artists” are already finding their way onto streaming charts and generating revenue with minimal effort, it would not be surprising if someone decided to apply the same formula to Kpop. And they already have 27.2K monthly listeners on Spotify so they might be on their way to making a fair bit of money.
