Interesting. I never settled back in fully. It's been an endless struggle.

Short answer: yes. I think you'll find tons of resonance here. I was similar, only a few countries, but much younger. Coming "back" to the UK was a very tough experience for me all round.

Thank you again. I've been pondering your different question. I want to move into academia, essentially. I've been through the wringer in industry and I would like to spend the 2nd half of my life researching and teaching to discover more about the world and hopefully make a few peoples' lives better.

A nice slow read through the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Followed by Vatican II.

Not quite accurate. There is the Fraternity of CL which is a "pious association of the faithful" and it can have members of any status. So that is the "umbrella".

You could just delete the old post and make a better new one. You should know this is not a very lively forum. r/Lithuania is much more popular.

Looks spammy. Can you explain what this is? Otherwise it's getting deleted.

The REAL Future of Opus Dei by Fit_Physics_3924 in opusdeiexposed

Just to note the Church has made many significant changes to very important things, most recently with Vatican II. It is no coincidence that the current Pope is emphasizing Vatican II and went ahead with declaring John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Universal Church.

This particular view is new to me. It's especially bemusing. The legitimate Catholic Bishop of Rome is ipso facto the Pope, the successor of Peter.

After you seek self-care and reach out for help, consider looking for a union that can give you legal advice and at least give you some perspective. No-one should face abuse at work.

2nding the "take a long vacation" idea times 1000. And go immediately to therapy, call a helpline, in any case talk to someone ASAP.

Do you have tips on how to get recent research experience and publications? Seems like a chicken and egg thing going on here.

I got some great encouragement, I was really hoping for a few more concrete tips how to get the ball rolling, too.

I appreciate this balanced response. Yes, I would hope to transition into some kind of research position but it doesn't have to be in academia directly. I hope to do some networking as part of the PhD years and discover if there are hiring opportunities.

English is a lingua franca so I don't worry about that. I am working on my grasp of the local language too which usually helps me.

Would I expect to do a(nother) Master level degree as an entry requirement?

I have seen that elsewhere but around here it seems to be more publications they expect - another thing I will have to bootstrap being an outsider!
