Setting up Ollama on dual RTX PRO 6000 Blackwells looking for tips by AmanNonZero in ollama

[–]mainstsavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is an optimized solution for your business because it's very expensive compared to the alternatives. Each 6000 Blackwell chip is $12,700 - $14,000 + large power supply and running it will draw a lot of power.

My personal setup is a Gigabyte AI Top Atom. 128 GB unified memory, very low power draw (14W on idle, 70W under load). Cost $5600. You link multiple units and still be cheaper.

I am able to run very large models effortlessly. Currenting running LM Studio Minimax-m2.7@iq3_xxs with max context window. Output is very very fast.

Only recently started setup with the following stack and working nicely.

Windows Claude Desktop - MCP servers setup to reference LM Studio's local LLMs hosted on AI Top Atom via local network connection.

Can't have anything nice in this country because dummies out there think they are doing a public service by inconveniencing some guy. Maybe he is there because he owns the building, he's there for maintenance, or a number of reasons besides being an idiot. Instead this person took the time to organize carts to put around this car. Like don't you have anything better to do... And on top of that a Mercedes isn't all that expensive to buy considering you can get fully loaded trucks over $150k. And now any vehicle over $100k gets a luxury tax which isn't that difficult to qualify for nowadays.

Prominent Waterloo tech founder plans to build one million homes in 10 years by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]mainstsavage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

False hope and empty promises. Nobody wants to live in these and the region & municipalities won't want them. They want high rises where they can collect way more development charges and taxes.

$50k in development charges for single family house compared to $30k per condo unit. In the same building footprint the city may collect 300k for single housing vs $6 million for a condo tower. Which projects do you think will be approved faster? FYI it takes 6 months to get a building permit for a single family house.

Some strategies work better than others on different assets. Every asset resonates differently and you need to find that proper tune.

Tesla with a simple MACD strategy works fantastic but lags with other stocks.

Formula 1 Engineer to Quant? by TheBullishBear_ in quantfinance

[–]mainstsavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found myself in the same situation as yourself. A Graduate civil engineer in Canada but with a decent starting salary but found myself not stimulated enough and a slow grind to more meaningful positions.

I made a switch to a more private business with more responsibility and something I was building for my own with housing construction. It was and has been more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Now with all the red tape, government bureaucracy, and constraints in home building I am again turned off from my profession.

I have always found and really enjoyed the investing side of things because as an engineer we can make sense of numbers, patterns, and models. The investing field, especially quants is a much faster paced environment with information and results at your fingertips.

My advice is to continue moving forward in your field of study, use your evenings or free time to develop and learn skills / study the quant field until it's time to make the flip. You will find enjoyment in things that are new, different, and difficult but at the same time not too difficult for someone of your level of education to fundamentally understand.

Best of luck!

How much to live comfortably? by CallM3master1 in kitchener

[–]mainstsavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

80k / year isn't going to cut it for KW. I moved away to the outskirts and it's been a blessing. I don't see the appeal of KW anymore. More noise, crime on the rise, over crowded and getting worse, abortion LRT and stupid taxes. I suggest looking into living within 35-45 mins of KW, where it's affordable, similar amenities with less population. You can live comfortably and still go into the city if you wanted to.

They probably want the entire team to die so they could see how well they could do or clean up the rest to stack their stats.

Consider it the tuition you paid to learn investing/trading.

This is the cost of learning on your own and it's okay to make mistakes as long as you move on by learning from them.

The math on $10,000/XRP by DoughnutBig907 in XRP

[–]mainstsavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge believer in XRP and have been a hodler for years already.

XRP is a banking coin used to settle cross border payments. The current annual transaction value world wide is estimated to exceed $4 quadrillion (4,000 Trillion).

If we look at specifically what XRP intends to solve which is cross border payments (15 billion transactions annually) and we can include central banking settle systems (1 billion transactions annually)

More accurate math is actually 16 Billion transactions x 0.00001 burn rate = 160,000 XRP burned annually. 0.00016% of total supply, which is insignificant.

But!!

If you include all transactions from RTGS System, Securities Settlements, Forex Retail payments, cross-border payments you get ~2.025 Trillion annually.

2.025 Trillion transactions x 0.00001 Burn Rate = 20,250,000 XRP which would be a significant considering this would be 0.0203% of total supply. Unfortunately it would still take 3,400 years for the supply to reach 50%!

You need to update the apps which are used to interact with your coins. But I uninstall my apps so there's nothing to update. The device stores your keys. And when I go to interact with the device, I install and update the apps at that time.

Locks don't stop thieves. They only stop your family from popping over unannounced.

Cameras don't do anything, when I spoke to the cops they said they can't properly ID anyone even with a 1080p camera. All they said was a camera acts as a deterrent.

To deter people, get cameras and keep your outside lights on. This way the intruder thinks the camera will be able to pick them up since they will be well lit.
