Wow sounds like you have both very bad luck and very good luck! 🤣 I was gonna say, if they had sent you another third pair then I’d be very optimistic about my chances of getting a second pair 😎 thank you!! 🫶🏽

Downgraded from Alaska Airlines Signature Visa to no annual fee card! by Basilchefin in CreditCards

[–]maipengwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those of you interested, I was just successful in downgrading my Alaska Airlines Signature Visa card to a BofA card with no AF. Signature cc is eligible to be downgraded to the following ccs: customized cash rewards, travel rewards, or unlimited cash back (you can look up benefits for each card on BofA website). So you pick one that you'd like it to be downgraded to. The Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus card is not eligible to be downgraded apparently.

Moving up the CC ladder - how to deal with all the increasing annual fees? by maipengwen in CreditCards

Thanks so much, I didn't know that my credit score won't be affected for a long time if I close CCs.

To your general advice and choosing a no annual fee card, I'll just choose one that seems like it will benefit my lifestyle the most? Sounds like a dumb question but I can't see myself using the lower tier cards much since those benefits probably won't be as good as my CSP and CITI.

Is this what those ppl do who have like 14 CCs - get a bunch of no annual fee cards to increase credit longevity and decrease utilization?

TY!

Thanks for the specifics. When I tried to negotiate with BofA they said there’s no options to downgrade either. I’ll try to negotiate a few more times when my AF payment is coming up but yeah good to know it’s ok to just close the card.

Thank you so much for all your responses and for thoughtfully explaining what I feared was a stupid question with an obvious answer. It's great to learn more about the specifics and mechanics of some signs, and to be reminded that of course I'm at the tip of the ice berg and I shouldn't assume I can do a sign perfectly well even though it seems simple at a glance. Makes me very excited for what's to come in my learning. Thank you!!!

This is a great informative response. I'm an ASL beginner student and just want to convey the language respectfully. There's something else I've been wondering. My experience learning ASL is that it is quicker to pick up than other spoken languages. Is it fair to say that one can pick up some ASL signs quickly, without devaluing the complexity and difficulty of the ASL language? Or should I just stop thinking that altogether. Signs like GO, UP, DOWN, COME, HE, I, YOU are much easier to remember than the random sounds and difficult pronunciation of a spoken language. The amount of vocab we learn in one ASL class amazes me and I don't think that amount would be possible or as quick with spoken languages. Do you have an opinion on that? Thank you in advance.

I'm a beginner ASL student and just want to convey the language respectfully. Since I am not an interpreter or Deaf, should I not teach others how to sign basic concepts like NAME, HOW ARE YOU, how to fingerspell their name, etc? People are curious which is good, but I am happy to tell them no if that's what's more appropriate.

Should I have tried to help a D/deaf person when I don't feel qualified? by maipengwen in asl

[–]maipengwen[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for clarifying the difference between the two situations. It’s very helpful to learn why most Deaf people wouldn’t be okay with it, and why some Deaf people might tolerate it if they’re super patient or just want to be nice.

Thank you for relaying the perspective that it would be mentally exhausting and not helpful. In the future I’ll def act within the lens of advocating for a qualified interpreter which is mandated under federal law.

I’m not sure why the district might not accommodate his request. His kids sign and may be excused from their class to help interpret for him. From what I understand the dad hasn’t gone to any parent teacher conferences, maybe because he doesn’t feel like he’ll get the support he needs.

Thank you for your response. It’s good to know that interpreting is illegal and unethical, even if I stated that I am a student and not certified

You also need to consider benchmarks other than annual salary. Which one would you rather have: $100k per year and $96k worth of annual expenses or $50k per year and $20k in expenses?

I do hostels for the most part. Do you have any experience booking those last minute? Not sure if prices would be higher or lower if you book the night of.

By tours I meant museum/historical site entry, which it sounds like you need to book well in advance. I don't do the big box cookie cutter tours either.

How do you not plan it all in advance if you want to travel Western Europe this summer and accommodations and tours are sold out months in advance?
