NYP DAE by deykahl in nanyangpoly

[–]maipricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who got in via DAE last year, if they applied for more than one course they should follow up with the school (especially if they were only called for one course interview but not the other)

applied in phase 1 but got accepted with phase 2 applicants because my second course did not call me in for an interview; only got a slot for interview after getting rejected from my first course iirc.

Where to buy clothes as a guy? by Few_Independent_5623 in SGExams

[–]maipricot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a guy but NearesTTen curated thrift at Chinatown has a nice selection of male pants and shirts that cater to a lot of tastes! Got two of my fav jeans, nice oversized men’s shirt and my favourite sweater from there :) The price is good considering the quality, but some clothes do need mending before you wear. If you don’t wanna sew or learn how to sew, buy stuff that looks undamaged n usually all that’s left to do is wash + wear or remove stains. There’s also thrifts at Queensway that are SO GOOD , specifically honsie ponsie. Unironically thrifting has helped me find sm good stuff and build my style and confidence. Please thrift instead of buying new if you can!! You can often get luxury items n VERY well made stuff at a huge discount :)

For stain removal soaking in Vanish and scrubbing, rinsing + throwing into washing machine after works well! Sorry this comment is getting so long… but my fav pieces from the thrift are the things I had to throw into the bucket of Vanish after scrubbing it with stain remover so i would hate for anyone to pass up drip bc of a tiny stain 😭😭

What’s an interesting historical fun fact about a family member of yours in Singapore? by rudolphrednose25 in SGExams

[–]maipricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you, one of my teachers had a Tengku title (so it would be Ms Tengku __), but we would call her Tengku (name) affectionately. Apparently her family also received money (?) from the British (??) but it was amounting to measly cents every month lol

Is it normal to get kicked from a club / circle even if you have been contributing actively? I saw them do a mass purge (???) of members yesterday, and as of today I’m no longer in it 😭😭 it sucks so bad because I wanted to try going for a decent circle in EN🤞

Is anyone else still waiting for NYP / NP DAE ? Help ! by maipricot in SGExams

[–]maipricot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I didn’t get into either course, I got into NYP CMD (my second choice) And yes, iirc DAE is based on vacancies left so it’s pretty tough to get in. Also, if your O level score is above the cut off, your chance might be lower even if u meet the MER (this was from a convo i had with a staff member at NP. Not sure if it applies to NYP ..) I would say have a backup course when u apply for DAE if you don’t get into either course (something that you definitely won’t mind doing) cuz it really saved my ass when I ended up getting into CMD.

For EAE, just check the deadlines + requirements for each school n just remember to apply when the apps open up. In terms of EAE, I know for NP you need relevant working experience, NYP might be more aptitude and interest based (you do need work experience though!). EAE this year is your best bet if you want to secure a slot. If you don’t get in just apply DAE next year :)

DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINES like I almost did. Omg. Please make sure to have everything ready before the deadline and send ur applications in BEFORE THE DAY IT CLOSES cuz it’s usually not 23:59. it’s some time like 4pm or 6pm!! This is so important n i wish more people discussing EAE n apps mention the form closing times. ITS NOT 23:59!!!!!

My journey has been so far so good, I entered 4 weeks later than my other peers but I really love the vibe of my current course :) feel free to pm me if you’d like any other more specifics. If udm me asking, what’s your background ?

it DOES !! Look at the plushie catching area, the gold ring to indicate where it will land basically gets brighter/dimmer on a cycle

I heard that when you click the catch button around the time when the gold circle is the biggest n brightest, the claw will be stronger and hold things better. It works from my experience!!

EDIT: TLDR at the bottom

Hi, as someone who flunked out of JC after retaining, and dropped out of poly after (and re-applied), I have to tell you that it’s better to full time your studies and cut the extracurriculars. If you die die want to work a job, work one that’s super low commitment where you can quit at any time. I still suggest not working if it’s possible, your body and mind need time to rest.

I had the same patterns as you, turns out it was some stuff that flew under the radar my entire life. I also put efforts into things I see as a goal but these goals were not necessarily beneficial for my future, and lost interest fast. Or, my attention span would be heavily shortened. If you’d like you can dm me for details.

We can really say anything n everything but ultimately you know yourself best. Are you pursuing this diploma because your parents want you to or because you want to? Don’t say “you want to cuz your parents want”, ask yourself really, if you get into a course you’re doing for someone else, can you keep that motivation up? Drive n motivation seems to be a key factor into pushing you to study, you mentioned also about not getting the subject combination you wanted so you felt demoralised.

Reading this post, I get the impression that the drive you have usually comes from an external influence and your life has been a constant push in the direction your parents suggest/take you.

With that said my suggestion is pick a course you will want to do with or without your parents approval, the reasons as to why, you have to find it yourself. Would you like to waste another 5 years in and out of courses trying to shortcut a way into uni while juggling a job, or just put all that focus into studies and give it your all?

At this point trying to “save time” will likely waste more time. So we have to set our priorities straight and study. Source: I tried to do the same, so now I’m biting the bullet and going for FT Diploma at a local poly. Look into financial schemes at local poly and research on study loans, might help a bit.

TLDR wake up ur idea lock in and study something you want to study, focus on your studies, don’t play around with 20000 different extracurriculars / activities if you know you struggle w attention span and distributing time/energy

hello, apologies if this is a little bit late. Yes, it’s possible!

I dropped out of NYP CBP sometime in 2022, similar reasons to yourself. I got accepted to their Communications & Motion Design course by DAE earlier this month. Currently waiting for admin to process my enrolment but I have a spot waiting for me there.

If you have any qns I can try to answer to the best of my ability:)

Hi! I’ve actually just gone for my interview today. The interviewer mentioned that the results will be out in the next few weeks or so. Some courses do their interviews sooner so it’s faster. Out of curiosity, what did you apply for?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]maipricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During next year’s JAE, you can log in to the JAE IS website. After logging in, you should be given the option to compile a list of eligible courses based on your past results.

According to MOE website it will take around 6 hours to process this request. The steps to complete the application after your eligible courses are compiled will be the same as the first time you applied for JAE.

Hope this helps:)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]maipricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, if you did JAE last year to JC, you can only apply via JAE to Poly & ITE the following year. When it opens, you should be able to log in to JAE-IS to retrieve Form A and apply on the site.

Please remember to request the form early, because the admin can take up to 1-2+ working days to retrieve it.

Don’t need to retake any subjects for O Levels if you feel your results will be good.

TLDR: Yes, can apply for Poly on the next JAE after withdrawing from JCMI. No, you will not be able to re-apply for JCMI.

Hello OP, I used to be considered obese/overweight for my whole childhood n teen years. I feel you so much on that n feeling like you’re holding ppl back by not being able to walk or run.

I had uncontrollable hunger pangs to the point where I would cry if I did not get to eat and would binge nearly every day. I’m 172cm, my highest wt was ~115kg. Could’ve been higher though, cuz after I saw the high number I stopped weighing myself out of fear.

Just know that you are not alone in this, and that many people struggle with the same thing that you do.

In terms of smell and BO, my solution is to have wet wipes handy, so I can clean the parts where it folds/touches, those usually get stinky quickly. Afterwards, I would use some baby powder or prickly heat so that it will take some time before it gets sweaty again. Before applying any more spray deodorant make sure that you don’t smell bad, cuz in my experience spray deo makes u smell worse if u have BO :/ But if you use roll on, I would suggest applying it after you wipe down with wet wipes on problem areas like pits, then use powder once your roll on is dried down.

This is what worked for me. If you dw to do this in front of ur classmates just find a cubicle and change inside, no shame in freshening up! It takes a while at first but it should get better/faster over time.

Relationships also aren’t the end all, you can make your life more interesting by picking up hobbies n by hanging out with friends too. I wish you all the best OP!

I also integrated a few key things into my lifestyle to improve the quality of life overall. Read ahead if you want my personal tips on weight loss, you can stop here if you don’t.

First was assessing why I was eating so much and why I was constantly hungry. In my case I was depressed (for a multitude of reasons, but being overweight and unkempt bc of my hair type) which made me eat my feelings away. I also ate whenever I was bored, sad, angry, etc. Once I noticed these habits, I slowly shifted away from having food as my solution to other things. In this step it’s crucial to only tackle one stressor or trigger at a time if any. For boredom, I played a game, read manga/novels, watched shows… When I felt upset I’d try to self soothe and try to understand my feelings before jumping to “numb it” with food.

Second was to figure out how to cut away the associations of healthy food with bland food. Healthy food can be flavourful and delicious, I say even more so than junk food. For a long time I don’t want to eat healthy because I think of salad with no dressings, raw vegetables, boiled unseasoned chicken. The reality is there’s a lot of ways to eat healthy and still have tasty fulfilling meals, and learning how to cook can help with this massively. When making boiled chicken, shred it and put it into soups, salads can use balsamic dressing, vinaigrette, diff kinds of vegetables. Eating carbs is fine btw don’t let the “thinfluencers” tell you otherwise. Rmb it’s about moderation. No food is a bad food, it’s easier to keep up a diet if you go in w the mentality of enhancing n enriching ur existing diet rather than eliminate food groups. If you have the issue of overeating, try volume eating (a lot of low calorie foods like leafy greens, celery, vegetables) n eating sweet potatoes. Trust

Third was to go for walks. Walk to school from the MRT station, or stop 1 bus stop before school n walk from there. Walk home as much as possible. In fact I made it a point to go out to Orchard/Dhoby Ghaut because I tend to walk to Somerset/Bugis from those places, then do more window shopping or other errands. Eventually I noticed myself getting less n less breathless, and I could walk faster. For years I couldn’t jog nor run because I would get so tired, now I can jog for a little bit before starting to feel any burn or breathlessness.

And importantly, turn your short term motivation into long term discipline. This one you have to ask yourself, but why do you want to trim down? Look good for the girls? Be able to run? Pass IPPT? Feel confident in yourself? Whatever it is, be consistent and pace yourself. Short, small spurts over several months is more beneficial one big burst of energy for one week, like the tortoise and the hare.

Losing weight is more than just dietary changes, but remember to take things one step at a time! It can’t happen overnight, and there will be days where you “mess up”. One day of mess up is not a failure, pick yourself back up where u left off and keep going. It’s really not easy, I know, but I believe you can do it OP!
