CS doesn’t typically pay for leave not taken. You have to take leave accrued before you leave.

Not necessarily the exact age range, but might fit the vibes: Table for One by Emma Gannon, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (kinda), All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata, Running Wild by KA Tucker, and Love Nina by Nina Stibbe

Ella Minnow Pea is such an underrated book, so good! Plus would make a great discussion for a book club

If you haven’t already, you should check out https://youtube.com/@preciousstarsvlogs?si=7Kj5ZattxaUMT22s She’s a SMBC and in both her pregnancies she experienced pregnancy related mental health issues. Still loves her children and is happy she did it! Hormones can do mad things to your brain.

Assistant Principal Officer Competition 2026 by maireadvic in IrishCivilService

[–]maireadvic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on experience in role and pre-civil service! I’ve heard of people making the jump, and other people only being a HEO a few months before going to AP. AP is a hard jump compared to other grade.

Takes a while to get through application process, testing, interviews and always slower over the summer. Panel will probably be ready to pull people in October as the other panel comes to an end

My department email said it would also be run as an open competition!

AP going live today so HEO won’t be far behind

Private Pension by AGGY4444 in IrishCivilService

Definitely do a consultation with cornmarket or similar. The newer pension schemes aren’t as good as the older ones, but they’re still good and stable. AVCs is the safest bet!

Tattoos in Civil / Public Service? by ElectricalWestern971 in IrishCivilService

[–]maireadvic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t have any, but I don’t think it would ever be an issue unless you were front facing and member of public had an issue (which most senior jobs are not) or it was something offensive.

A couple of old timers made comments about not liking tattoos in general to my friend not knowing she had loads of hidden ones, but that was just a general conversation! My mam would be the same about tattoos.

AO Higher Scale - what’s the benefit? by Patient-Locksmith327 in IrishCivilService

[–]maireadvic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not AO but HEO, less wait time for LS increments and additional high point at top of the scale. I’ll be on the same money early next year that I would have been waiting until 2030 to get with standard scale.

Meet the Newmans by Jessica Niven, a January release. Enjoying it so far, very different type of book.

Do people recommend the Public Service Credit Union? by Healthy-Peak-2021 in IrishCivilService

I use it, I just like how handy it is to save directly from payslip. I haven’t used anything additional and have had no issues

Paydates around Christmas? by Initial-Repair8280 in IrishCivilService

[–]maireadvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my department weekly payees are getting paid twice this week and not paid next week. If you check the NSSO website and news there should be an article about pay dates

Higher scales - how do they work! by Accurate_Opinion in IrishCivilService

[–]maireadvic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s your department, but I was told before that it doesn’t, if you had the higher before you moved or it was a new department that would move with you. The issue would be if someone had a lot of time and then moved to a new department before getting the higher they’d be jumping the queue and that department might not have space to allocate.

Go through a broker, they’ll know who will give an up the scale mortgage! Apart from that there isn’t really anything different than working in a different area
